what happened to me last night. At my son's baseball game, I was backed into by a pickup truck.
I was walking toward my son, who was standing by the snack bar, with my boyfriend & his little cousin, I had just said something to my son, when all of a sudden I was knocked down to the ground and it kept pushing. When I turned around all I saw was this tailgate, backing over me. My b/f screamed, and punched the guys truck to get his attention, then the guy tried to pull away. So, my knight, jumps over me, and starts screaming at the guy, and that's when it is realized that the man is drunk of his a**. All my b/f says then, is "I think you should step outside". By then there's bunch of people around us, 4 other guys made him stop. In a matter of minutes the cops were there. He was arrested. I am okay, except my back is in a lot of pain, from where his truck hit me. My son is fine, when I fell, he jumped (he claims I pushed him) out of the way, but his little friend, may have broke his hip. The poor little thing got caught between the truck and a metal railing. We both went to the ER (i un-willingy, but that's cause i'm stubborn). I'm fine, and realized that the whole incident could've been a HECK of lot worse. Now, I'm just a little "shaky". I'm still very angry with the man who did this, not too mention that he is known by the local cops, and that bugged me, thinking he may have been caught drinking & driving before. Some guy had the nerve to walk up to my b/f while the cops & EMS guys were talking to me and asked my b/f to go easy on the guy who did this. my b/f just looked at him and said, "are you kidding! is that your girlfriend or kid over there." then he just walked away.
Don't want to freak anyone, just thought I'd let you all know. I am okay, except for the twinges of pain, and the little guy is doing all right too. I talked to his dad today and he told me he was fine. I'm just glad the goddess & gods were watching over me when it happened.

What a terrible thing! Are the police going to charge him this time? It's sad that sometimes, nothing happens until people like him kill someone. I'm so glad no one was seriously hurt!

WOW ! This is why if I have one drink I do not have keys of anykind!! I could not live with myself if I ever brought harm to anyone!
Now the NURSE side of me is kicking into gear!! You are not ok if you have pain and the worse of it is the 3rd day following any accident! I would be sure to follow up with your DR. as I am sure they have already told you to do!!
Take Care

Glad to hear that the both of you are okay, considering. :sunny:

How scary!
I am glad that things were not worse, but going along with the nurses (I am a mom, so that makes a pseudo-nurse :)) please go to your dr if you still don't feel good.
((gentle hugs))

Oh Lady, this is truly horrible! I am glad to hear that you are relatively okay, and I hope your son's little friend will be okay too. Have you found out if his hip is indeed broken? How old is he?
Just wanted you to know that we are all thinking about you and sending you and your family positive energies. And yes, go to the doctor for a follow up! :)
May the Goddess Bless you and yours,

*hugs* I'm glad you came out ok....as said before, it could have been a lot worse....(but tell that to all the pain you're feeling right now!!!....) hope your back feels better and that there's no permanent damage....I sure hope your sons friend is ok....hopefully he doesn't have emotional scars over it....I don't know much...but I'm sure depending on the childs age it could mess him up a bit....hopefully not though....best wishes and warm energies are being sent your way....

eeeeeeeeeeeek! *big but careful huggles* it's good to know that you're okay...
but this is why i think that if anyone is caught DWI they should have their license permanantly revoked. it's harsh, but it would help prevent these kind of accidents in a lot of cases.

I feel your pain and, YES, this is tragic. I am very pleased that everyone is, or will be okay.
I beg you, though, please do not hold anger against the man that "did" this. It was not him - it was the alcohol. Maintaining anger would cause more harm to you them him.
Imprisonment won't help and revoking his license will only give cause to him driving under the influence without insurance. Counseling and rehab are the best bet here - for all parties involved.
I loathe seeing people harmed by such negligence but anger can only cause more harm.
Hope this made sense.

It was the alcohol - in him. He put it there by choice. Personal responsibility cannot be brushed aside. Granted a disease is the root cause here and proper resolution requires it to be addressed; the couseling and rehab (and hope he is cooperative).
Anger and a desire to see punishment delivered are archaic, yet valid responses; and should be acknowledged and worked through. Then the real issue is to address prevention. Knowingly allowing this guy to continue on unabated is to become party to his crimes. Unfortunately one of the few tools available to our courts for this purpose is pulling the driver's license. Maybe someday there will be a more efficacious remedy, such as something I read about a decade ago - a breathalizer built into the ignition system of a car. The system has it's drawbacks (adds a couple hundred dollars to the cost of a car and would only be fazed in over time as new cars replace old. Those were the reasons cited for not adopting a policy requiring the systems, but I'll bet more than a few dollars of beer and liquor company political donations helped), but sounds better than nothing to me. Widely available mass transit would be another big help to keeping drunks off the road. Wish that would happen too.
