Alright I give in. I havent found a thing so Im going to have to ask if anyone knows the properties of an amythist? I used to have A rather large one that was without inclusions or whitened areas. I used to meditate with it but I was lost when my school burnt to the ground back in middleschool. Im now going off to see if I can replace it but seeing as its been so long I was wondering if anyone had some useful advice on its uses/properties.
Also whe I hold it near my face this area in the middle of my forhead feels all weird and funny. Same thing happens with my staff and some of my other stones. any ideas on that?

Off the top of my head I know it has some psyhic energy uses so that would explain the feeling when you put it up by your third eye. I get the same feeling.

I found this at http://www.wicca.com/celtic/stones/stonea-e.htm, I hope it can be helpful to you.

AMETHYST (Quartz)
SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION: Violet to red-purple quartz is called amethyst. It is the same formula as Quartz (SiO2) with the addition of iron. Its hardness is 7.

ENVIRONMENT: Basic quartz is an important rock-forming mineral and developed in many different environments. Amethyst is often found in Quartz geodes.

OCCURRENCE: Gem quality stones come from Brazil, Uruguay, the Ural Mountains and Japan. Fine deep-colored amethyst occurs in the quarries in Patterson, New Jersey. Drusy amethyst (generally paler in color) is abundant in many silver mines in Mexico. Some specimens have been found in the Four Peaks region of Arizona.

NAME: The name comes from the Greek [A-methystos], meaning 'not tipsy'.

LEGEND and LORE: Amethyst and magic have been connected for at least 2,000 years. The Greeks believed it to be an amulet against inebriation. It is one of the few stones specifically recommended for men to use for attracting women. Amethyst is the birthstone for February:

"The February-born shall find
Sincerity, and peace of mind,
Freedom from passion and from care,
If they the Amethyst will wear."

MAGICAL PROPERTIES: Amethyst can be used to increase psychic awareness, to sharpen the 'sixth sense'. Because of this, many people keep a crystal with their I-Ching, tarot, or Rune tools. It is considered a very spiritual stone.

HEALING: This stone is the major stone for the Crown Chakra. This location deals with extrasensory perception. In addition, it can be used in this position for healing of the nervous system and the brain.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I use this stone as a "calming" stone for those people who are "hyper" and anxious. It will also work for mild depression. (See Kunzite for severe/manic depression.) In addition, I recommend it for anyone who is addicted to alcohol or other mind/mood altering drugs.

NOTES: Heat treating Amethyst will change it from purple to brown or yellow, and many Citrines on the market are created this way. Amethyst from one particular mine in Brazil will turn green when heated. It is marked under the name of prasiolite. (Although this is actually the name of an entirely different mineral.
-----

On the topic of the wierd feeling, I get the same sort of thing when I am using my celestite to help get rid of the stress induced headaches I'm prone to. I personally just think this a due to the reaction of my energy to the vibration of the crystal's energy. Maybe the feeling is the result of whatever energy/ies are natural to or are being retained by your stones? Anyway, once again, I hope this info was helpful to you and good luck. ^_^

Amethyst, in standard tarot, represents XIII - Death
It brings light into problems and so helps us in the transformation from the mental to the spiritual level.
This is a great stone to hold while mediating. =)

amethyst was used to decorate fine goblets, as it was thought to protect the imbiber from poison (as well as drunkeness, as mentioned above).

it is ruled by both Jupiter and Mercury.

according to Paul Beyerl, amethyst would increase one's beauty if worn long enough (i guess you could say that about anything!).
it might help to maintain chastity and celibacy, and should be worn by those wishing to maintain these 'qualities'.
if worn to bed as a talisman, pleasant dreams and a good night's rest would result, and upon waking would improve the mind, sense of humor and memory.

it is also used to invoke Mars, Hermes and Mercury.

Amethyst will not stop drunkenness, but it will stop the negative side effects of it. Like headache, getting sick and hangovers. I have an amethyst point specifically for drinking. I’ve been using it for, oh crap I’m old, well over a decade. I have always been a light weight when it comes to drinking, and still am. The amethyst will not stop me from getting falling down drunk and passing out, but I haven’t had a hangover or thrown up when using it.

Amethyst

Light lavender to deep purple, this stone is primarily a healing stone.
It opens and activates crown chakra, (located at the top of the head).
Also its the birthstone for February and the zodiac stone for Aquarius, Virgo, and Capricorn.

Some Facts

~The six sided point of an amethyst crystal will point you in the right direction.

~Claimed by Da Vinci to dispel evil thoughts.

~Considered sacred to Buddha.

~Often used for goblets in ancient Greece.

~Believed to prevent drunkenness.

Amethyst has a long history of use as a gem and as a magical stone.
The name is derived from an ancient Greek word meaning "not to intoxicate".
In Greek myth, the God Bacchus got mad at the goddess Diana, and decided to get even
with her by having the next person he saw devoured by tigers.
A beautiful maiden named Amethyst was the first to cross his path afterward,
and he set the tigers upon her.
She called upon Diana for protection, and to save her, Diana turned her to a hard, clear stone.
Bacchus came to regret his deed, and in despair poured his favorite beverage,
a nice purple grape wine over the clear stone statue that Amethyst had become.
The color was absorbed by the stone, and became permanently purple.
Because of this story, the legend that amethyst would prevent intoxication
began centuries ago, and continues in some areas today.
