Just wondering if anyone else out there knows of some magickal uses/properties to malachite. I've had a silver ring with celtic knotwork and a malachite stone set into it for the longest time and now recently my boyfriend gave me celtic knotwork pendant with a malachite stone in it to match my ring. So, I've been wondering what things malachite is know for.

The energy of malachite is good for success, business, health and prosperty.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to go well with me. I absolutely love it, that color of green is one of my favorite colors, but if I wear it, I usually get depressed or sick and bad things happen.

It has been used as a protection stone for ages and there have been instances where the stone will actually crack or split in two to warn the wearer of pending troubles or danger. Personally I use it in earth and water spell crafting the colors are beautiful and very inspiring.

Yes - and I have a ring that I wear specifically for that purpose. It has a perfect "bullseye" in the center - this is a sort of spiral marking that makes malachite more beautiful and valuable.
Native Americans also use it as a healing stone and you will find it in a lot of Southwestern jewelry.

I've read that malachite is one of those love-it-or-hate-it stones. It's got an intenseness about it that doesn't sit well for some people, and some people just can't wait to be rid of it.
Personally I love it :)

I've also heard that their color fades when they've absorbed a lot of negativity but I've never seen this happen.

Howdy! Just thought I'd offer my .02 cents...
Malachite represents the 8 of Cups. This opaque stone resolves repressed emotions and promotes understanding of ourselves and our fellow human beings. It becomes a mirror of our soul, allowing us to discover our concealed self and our problems. Malachite can also help us work through sad experiences.
Tarot Interpretation: Frustration, separation, melancholy, painful experiences, indolence, renunciation.
Reversed Aspect: Striving until the goal has been reached. Happiness & cheerfulness.~C =)

Malachite - Light to dark green.
Found in Africa, Russia, and Australia.
A piece kept in your wallet or purse will help you to spend money wisely.
It also absorbs negative energy well and calms you down.
It brings subconscious wisdom, loyalty, leadership ability, comfort, balance, emotional maturity, sensitivity, inner clarity, positive transfermation, peace, protection and healing.
It draws out negativity and reflects the feelings of the wearer.

Wow, thank you for all the responses, feel free to continue to add more.
It helps with success and prosperity, huh? That definitely sounds like something I could use right now! :) (me = poor college student)
I've always loved that deep green swirly pattern it has - actually on my ring, all the striations are straight lines, no swirl, but on my pendant, they swirl.
Does anyone know how this particular type of stone forms or what it is made up of?

malachite is a copper ore, often found together with azurite. of course it is more frequently used as a gemstone, especially high quality pieces. don't remember the exact chemical formula -- read it forever ago 7 now it is playing hide & seek w/me.

Malachite's structure is monoclinic, globular or massive and sometimes occurs in bunches. It sometimes produces a sheen similar to tigerseye and some have a crust of druse on the surface.
As for the breaking to warn danger, it was thought to warn the wearer if impending disaster by craking into several pieces prior to an incident.
Astrological sign - Pisces,
Planets - Neptune, Venus
Elements - Earth and water
Energy - magnetic
It was used as a talisman for children to keep evil spirits away and babies slept soundly when it was attached to the crib.
Ancient Egyptians carved it with images of the sun and used it as an amulet against necromancers, witches, and demons.

I am one of those that has a definite affinity for malachite, I have a lovely little malachite owl on my altar now in fact. As with most green stones, malachite is useful for healing and prosperity spells. When I bought my first piece, the vendor told me that malachite was considered to be one the the master healing stones. I don't have any malachite jewlery, but I'm waiting for just the right piece to claim me.

It is a soft stone that wears and breaks easily, and if well-loved will develop a grainy, smooth surface. The piece I have has been the most durable of those I've owned, perhaps because it isn't really in a setting. I don't wear it often, but there are days when it just catches my eye, and then I put it on.
I can't say whether it has any heath effects, but I heard it was one of ancient Egypt's sacred stones. I cannot remember were I read it, but if I do I'll pass the information along.

I carry a piece of malachite in my purse. Just seeing it each time I open it helps me to stop and think about what I'm spending money on.:p

I definately get along well with malachite. I have a gorgeous malachite pendant, and what I've found it to work well for has rarely been what I have come across in my studies.
For me it's great for increasing psychic awareness, magickal energy (especially your own), reflecting negativity back (not absorbing it as most claim), and energizing me.
I've had it for years and it just seems to be incredibly attached to me. If I haven't wore it in awhile, I'll often find it somewhere out of place, as if it is telling me to wear it. Of course, this could also be accredited to a cluttered room, but I have found it in the strangest of places.
