I recently scored a whole mess of stones very cheap and when I separated them out, I have over 100 hematites that are 1-2 inches in diameter. Do any of you have any good ideas for what I could do with them? They are just sitting in a bag on my desk and I feel like they want to be useful but I can't think of what to do with them. They are so big! :D

String them together to make a "necklace" of sorts to use as decoration in the home?

Um... get a glass bowl and put them in the bottom and cover them with silk flowers. Gorgeous :)

Also use them in potted plants, creating zen, rock gardens. Uses them from rune, ogham, or witch stones.

I'm not sure wther you can use them in stone massage therapy but I know they are supposed to be good for depression.

Here's some info for you about Hematite. It may help you decide what to do with it.
It's Reddish-orange on the outside, and when polished it is a gray metallic color.
Found in Brazil, Canada, U.S., and Australia.
It incourages willpower, reliability, concentration, courage, optimism, trust and balance.
It was traditionaly thought to have an effect on legal situations.
This iron ore strengthens the blood and improves circulation. Hematite also works to ground and to cut off unwanted influences from the astral plane and helps to deal with changes in life.

Hematite is my personal stone. They are great for protection, grounding, strength, etc. I use them on my altar and in jewelry.

I carry a 3 inch piece of polished hematite with me all the time. I use it for grounding, to keep me calm and centered. I'd like to make some type of cage/necklace so I can wear it when I don't have pockets in my clothes. Any suggestions where I can find something like this?

I love Hematite stones! They are wonderful! I have one I wear everyday on a neckless, it is heart shaped. Kind of like a talasmid (spelling?) in a way. I have always felt that hematite stones are for protection. They seem to help me out. I used to have hematite rings...however they seem to break easily.

Namaste,

Hematite is one of the best stones to cleanse and recharge (2 in one, so to speak) other stones and esp. jewellery.

I recommend you take a pottery, glass or wooden bowl, put hematite stones inside and place your jewellery on top.

Leave that plate/bowl on your window sill, so the hematite can get some fresh energy from sunlight any time.

You can also use it to cleanse and recharge other stones of yours. You will find more info on my web-page (the .com one particularly).

Actually, I only use citrine for cleansing other stones. :)

I find Hematite TOO grounding. Someone warned me about how "female grounding" it can be. I needed grounding, so I carried it in my hip pocket.

I had "whoosh female grounding", to put it nicely...LOL...

Mith, if they are a good size for them, what about making a set of runes with them? A good craft pen would be ok to use on them. Maybe test it on a smaller piece first though just to make sure.

Hematite is the only "self-healing" stone there is. Meaning if you scratch the surface, rub it with your finger and the scratch should go away. So etching might be out. :)

Hematite
Hematite is known as a "stone for the mind". It brings mental organization and is very grounding and calming. It helps with original thinking, logical thinking, and mathematics. It decreases negativity and can help balance the body/mind/spirit. Physically it has been used to keep the body cool, to decrease blood disorders, nervous problems and insomnia, as well as align the spine and mend broken bones. Hematite is associated with the root (base) chakra. Hematite is good at grounding out excess energy and acting as a stabilizing force.

Hematitite Stones
Associated with Aries and Aquarius and with the first or root chakra. Long used by shamans and medicine people for grounding out unwanted energies, balancing yin/yang energies, increasing mental clarity and balancing emotions. Whenever you feel unwanted thoughts or emotions, just hold the stone in your hand and "ground out" those unwanted enregies. Cleanse once a month by smudging with sage and pine resin.

Hematite The root "hem/o" means "blood". When ground or cut, this blackish grey metallic stone forms a reddish powder. Hematite forms a reflective shield around the wearer, letting negativity bounce off and return to the sender. The bearer should remember however, that their own negativity will be reflected to them if they are its source. It is therefore a "lesson stone," teaching the aware to release and ground their negativity. It heals and cleanses the blood and improves memory.

HEMATITE

FOLK NAME: Volcano Spit

ENERGY: Projective

PLANET: Saturn

ELEMENT: Fire

POWERS: Healing, Grounding, Divination

MAGICAL/RITUAL LORE: Hematite is a strange stone. It is heavy, solid, and silvery black. Its name alone is something of a mystery. To ancients, hematite was what we now know as bloodstone, so virtually all magical information relating to "hematite" in old books refers to bloodstone. This hematite, though, when worked on a lapidary wheel, "bleeds" and produces stains that look much like blood.

Hematite is a fine, showy stone. In Italy and elsewhere, it is fashined into necklaces which are sold as "volcano spit." Magical information relating to this stone is scarce.

Hematite possesses the curious property of "healing" itself. Make a small scratch on the surface of the stone, then rub your finger over it. The scratch may disappear.

MAGICAL USES: Hematite is said to be powerful in drawing illness from the body. As with all stones, it is held in the hands while visualizing, then placed on the skin directly over the afflicted area. A necklace of smallstones can also be worn for healing.

Hematite is worn for grounding and stabilizing purposes, and to focus the attention on the physcial plane.

A scrying: In a darkened room, light a red candle. Settle before it and hold a large piece of hematite so that the candle's flame is reflected on it. Gaze at the reflection and visualize a question. The answer will come to you.

Citrine is one of the few stones which never has to be cleansed.

Quartz in general is considered by some to be a good cleansing stone.

Amethyst cathedrals are used by some for cleansing by placing minerals within the cavelike structure and leaving them there for a set period of time. I know I use this method in the winter months and it works well for me although the cleansing time is increased a bit.

I am biased when it comes to citrine seeing that natural citrine is so hard to come by and most of what one finds on the market is heat treated amethyst. For myself personally I feel that the energies from man-made citrine along with man-made aura aura quartz have been "manipulated" too much to be considered "natural" energies. I do realize as well though that for some these are very powerful tools. Thats the great thing about minerals...they teach different things to differant people but in the end they make us all stronger.

I've been trying for some time to find a piece of Congo Citrine to work with. This is a natural citrine with a very deep coloration. Friends tell me its an amazing crystal to work with. Especially the ones which are surrounded by smaller crystals fanning out from the base of the main crystal and following the body of the main crystal. Some refer to the main crystal as the teacher and the smaller crystals as students.

Yeah Cunningham's crystal book was a good one. just now it's starting to be a bit outdated in some events. It's a shame he passed away:( Never had a chance to update it. But the newer books have added material from his footnotes. not nuch changed.

Where did you get the info from the other sources

.
That i heard of. But how long do you usually leave them there to be cleansed.

And lastly the congo citrine,if you can get a photo please post it. I rarely get to see the real stuff.:fpraise:

For cleansing in an amethyst cathedral I usually let the minerals sit within the cathedral for the 3 day cycle of the full moon.

In regards to a picture of a Congo Citrine... this is the first one I came across on the web and it looks to be an above average specimen. Normally crystals from here have some tip damage and damage to the surrounding crystals. This one looks in good shape.
