View Full Version : Doctor told me I will die.....

I went to the doctor today for my quarterly appointment. Based on my lab results and other factors, he told me that unless I take better control of my diabetes and my weight, I'm going to die.
So... that means adherence to the diabetic diet (ugh), exercise, and a bunch of other stuff that I absolutely HATE :wtf:
So... please give me your thoughts and energy that I will remain strong and be successful with this.

Energy sent from a fellow diabetic. Don't let it beat you :) The diet is a bastidge, I know, but it's better than insulin shots, kidney failure, going blind, amputated toes, and all the joys of end stage diabetic complications. You will feel better too if you lose weight and keep your sugar under control. I PROMISE YOU THAT!
Good luck!

I am sending you lots of energy. I had to follow a diet and sugar checks while I was pregnant, so that small taste tells me how hard it is. You can do it! I wish you all the luck in the world.

I hope you find a way to make the things you must do to be healthy more to your liking. Sticking to a certain diet can be very hard... especially if its not one you even want to be on... I wish you the best of luck. Sending some energy your way... ~*~*~

MM, DayDreamer. I'm sending you energy, and the strength to do what you have to do to live! Remember, though, that you have to enjoy that life, so find things you love. If you must exercise, find something you love doing...walking on the beach or lakeshore, in the woods, wherever you feel the happiest! Good luck!

I'm sending good energies your way! *hugs* diabetes runs in my family, so there's a good chance I might get it some day, tho I have no idea what its like having to cut back on sugars and such, it sounds terrible. I'm hoping that you remain strong, and even tho I know the diabetic diet is bland and disgusting... if it means you will stay with us longer, if only for a while, then just that while will make all the difference in this lifetime, to you and those who care!
energies and BRIGHTEST blessings!

You've got it - and please take him seriously. Diabetes really does cause several deadly disabilities. Flar's uncle didn't listen and he is now a paraplegic and is likely to lose his legs in the near future.

Greenwitch what do u mean that the diet is bland?
mine certainly isnt!
If you're only used to seasoning with salt and sugar, losing the sugar will make the diet bland ... but there are soooooo many yummy herbs to chose from in cooking, there is no need for anybody to have a bland diet. And if you absolutely need a touch of sweet, try stevia herb which is sweeter than sugar - you can buy the herb, the refined sweetener from it, or even grow it yourself in a pot.
I'm hyperinsulinemic (my insulin response is out of proportion to the amount of sugars I consume), and my Dr. told me a low-carb diet would keep it from turning into full-blown diabetes (both types of which run in my family). I have a diet with varied meats, poultry and fish, lots of veggies, some fruit (mostly berries), cheeses, other dairy, and some whole grain products. I can use any spices and seasoning I want. No refined stuff, no potatoes, rice, white bread, pasta - it's wonderful! I've found that after a while I didn't even like the stuff any more - that's the really bland stuff, anyway. The less sugar you put in your system, the less insulin you need - and the healthy fats I'm eating provide all the energy I need at a steady rate - no energy spurts followed by crashing. I'm also losing weight at a slow but steady rate.
