er, yes I am pretty new at this and I was wondering about whether you should cast a circle when doing spells, or just during rituals...or some spells and all rituals...I am rather confused :(

You'll probably get various response for this question. Some people believe you should cast circles when doing any kind of magickal workings including even divination and meditation and there are others who don't think you need to cast a circle at all. It's really I think what you personally feel like you need to do. I don't cast circles when I do spells but I would for rituals. That's my preference. Everyone varies.

As was said, everyone varies, but one thing everyone should do which makes this question quite a bit simpler, is to just sit down, and think about what exactly you believe the cast Circle to be.

What is its substance?
What is its purpose?
Once you know that much, it starts to get fairly apparent when you "need" a Circle and when you don't.. and for those times you don't "need" it, then it becomes your option.

Personally, I always cast the Circle for rituals, and for practical magic. For spiritual magic, it could depend on mood. For things such as divination and meditation, I rarely bother with it.
