in a country where it seems that the threat of skin cancer isn't stopping anyone from baking in the sun... i am listening to the radio and here about this tanning booth place where you get an 8 minute tan.
That frightens me.
eep.
8 minutes and your 'wonderfully tan'?
I can't tan at all.. i just burn and my skin gets all blothcy and icky... I've come to kind of like being pale(since i have no choice)... and I really dont' understand the whole enfatuation that america has with being 'tan'.
just thought i'd share my feelings on that.. anyone else have any nifty shiny opinions to share?
Has anyone here ever used a tanning booth? or that strange tanning spray/cream/lotion?
To tan.. or not to tan.. that is the question.. heh.

But nowadays, they scare me. Any kind of cancer scares me :( I am really good about coating the kids with sunscreen though and am miserable about doing it for myself. But I don't bake like I used to. He he he, now I use the tan in the bottle :D
Chris, used to lay out with baby oil and iodine, how scary is that?

Never tried a tanning booth... I'm resigned to my paleness. :) I bake and burn also. When you think about it, tanning is really just letting the sun cook your flesh. Like you're food or something. That's sorta creepy.

At my very first job, I worked with a car salesman who thought if he was tanned, he would look younger. He was taking these caratene pills & it turned him orange. 8O 8O BRIGHT, glo-in-the-dark orange! 8O 8O

I'm white... not just white, but glow in the day white. I've tried the tanning booth, creams, etc. The creams turned me orange-ish. In the tanning booth I burned in the lowest setting in the shortest time limit they had. I'm fried crisp within 5 minutes in the sun even with sunscreen. I gave up on even trying to tan years ago. I'm white and I'm proud. :D

I'm light and quick to burn as well....I do not tan, I just burn...when the burn peels off, my face'll stay tan for about a week...but the rest of my body goes directly back to white!!! weird!!!:) I have tried to use the tan in the bottle before...but it never comes out right...and people can always tell the difference between tan in the bottle and real tan...it's just a waste of time...I was hoping to get a tan before I go to Vegas...but it doesn't look like it's going to happen....(not like if I went tanning it would actually work right anyways for me!!) Plus I don't like getting sun lately because my tattoos react to too much sun....the ink raises and they start to itch!!! Badly!!! I have never liked the idea of tanning...naturally or by tanning bed....because of the cancer thing....but tell that to my lungs as I scamper off to have another cigarette:)

This was my meditation place in Ohio!!
20 uninterrupted minutes in a warm relaxing place with the music I choose!! And in the cold northern winters it was the only time my feet got warm!!
I was casper white and had to build up to the 20 minutes I started with 3 minutes and fried!! It did take months to show a sign of a hint of brown. Now I have a good base tan and with the sunpoisoning I used to get I am glad I have a place to get a control on tanning. In Ohio I would get a lot of big welts from being in the sun and they looked terrible, now my skin is much better. I do not wear makeup now either there is no need for it.
I have not tried it here in New Mexico but when it starts to cool off you betcha I will find one!!

I am the only person in my immediate family who is not tan. I am also the only person who cannot stand to be in the heat or sun for very long because the heat zaps my energy and makes me sick and the sun hurts my eyes too badly. Sunglasses help, but you know, I started wearing contact lenses so I wouldn't have to wear glasses, and sunglasses, though sometimes complimenting to an ensemble often defeat the purpose.
I suppose if I were to spend a VERY long time in the sun I might tan...I can spend all day out (without sunscreen mind you) and maybe only get burnt on my nose, cheeks, and the spot on my chest right below my neck around the collarbone area. The rest of me might get a little darker, but not much at all. And the burn will fade to a light tan in a few days, but for the most part the sun has no effect on my skin colour. My mum tells me I used to get brown as a nut when I was little, though I've yet to see a picture of me with a tan as deep as my brother or sister's.
I am always getting "well if you'll go out in the sun..." sorry, it just doesn't work. I've yet to see a single one of my friends come out of a tanning bed without looking like a lobster, and that tan-in-a-bottle always turns me this orangish colour...it doesn't matter if its cheap, expensive, whatever. Oh well...I'm perfectly content being pale. I can blind people with my legs...they glow in the dark, you know :)

I cant use that stuff either !! With the red in my hair orange is not my color!!
I use a sun conditioner, it has a sunscreen in it and the base is hemp seed oil. I like it!! And I am tan not tropical but I do not glow in the dark!!
