I didn't know if I should have put this here, or in the garden section, so here goes:
I have created a spell to help me lose weight, and I need some suggestions for some herbs that I should use that will help me with willpower and in general weight loss. Sorry if this is confusing but.. you'll forgive me

For will power these have worked great for me:
Dragon's Blood
Cinnamon
Rosemary
Vanilla
Mandrake Root
(Note: If you are going to injest any of these, I would most assuredly not injest mandrake root or dragon's blood)
For weight loss:
(Note: I am 120 lbs, and have been for years, so I've never worked weight loss magick, but what I've recommended and has worked for others is the following.)
Rosemary
Cinnamon
Black Pepper
Now I'm no nutritionist, so some of those herbs, if injested, may not be the most appropriate for weight loss.
Also, remember to exercise, drink lots of water, and eat right. Goes without saying, but couldn't resist. ;)

I use cinnamon.
I would most certainly not use vanilla.
Many herbal preparations for weight loss use chickweed, licorice and burdock root.

If I may ask, why is it that you would not use vanilla?
I'm one of those people who is just as interested in the reason as the answer, what can I say.

I've found patchouli essential oil to be very good for reducing appetite. Place a drop on a cotton ball and inhale as needed. I've also used bergamot with good results--I would breathe in the scent before grounding and centering, then I recited affirmations and visualized my goal.

Thank you guys for all of your help, this is such a wonderful board.
I also would like to know why you say the use of vanilla in the spellwork. Vanilla is probably my favorite scent (next to new shoes and new tires and new cars. I know, I'm weird) :) Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Well the scent of vanilla reminds me of baked goodies--cakes, cookies, etc--and since I *love* that stuff and tend to eat too much of it at times, it may not be so good in a weight-loss spell for me. I don't know what Mithrea's reasoning is, but that's my thoughts on the subject. The really important thing in designing spells is to use things that are personally meaningful to you, things that symbolize what you're working for.

I heard somewhere that the scent of vanilla was supposed to suppress appetite...not sure if it's true because I can barely stand the scent. :)
