Does anyone know of any spells or herbs or stones that will help easy the pain of mentrual cramps? I've been suffering severe pains lately almost to the point of tears and vomiting. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with me, its just a normal part of life but its drivening me crazy.

I am not sure if you can do meditations while in your current state, as we all want to lay down and cry when we're sick, not work hocos pocus.

However, if you can, and are aware of what the chakras are, I recommended this to a friend. Albeit I'm not a woman, so I have no idea where the cramps originate from, and most women I've spoken too claim different areas.

Envision small, very faint globes of energy for each of your chakras. Open your solar plexis one mentally with your mind (it's about right where your navel is), and envision white (or blue, your call) healing energies being sucked into the chakra. Do this for as long as you can and as often as you can until the cramps pass.

I hope this helps.

Drink a glass of water while envisioning the pain being washed away. Then, do some walking meditation. (Research some of the walking meditations online. They're really good.)

Instead of working a 'spell' as such, why not make a brew with a herb like Chamomile? As far as I'm aware, chamomile is safe for most people to ingest and it has a calming effect as well as reputedly soothing menstrual pains.

A tea can be made by pouring hot water over two teaspoonfuls of the herb (best to keep the herb in a tea-strainer so the brew isn't full of bits when you come to drink it) or else tying the herb up in a cotton bag in a pot of water and bringing the water slowly to the boil, then allowing the brew to steep for a little while before drinking it. This will obviously make a stronger brew.

Or if you fancy doing it the easy way, your local herbal store probably sells chamomile tea. If all else fails, go for good old-fashioned pain killers. :)

Best of luck.

Wonderful idea. Chamomile is most excellent.

A bit of warning though, it's extremely 'bitter' unless you buy it pre-made, so make sure to add lots of honey.

It's also a strong sedative, so of course do not drink a full cup before going to the mall like I did once.

"Uh... ow, there's a wall there!"

It was tragic.

And that's just the tip of the ice berg. What I would have given for someone to video taped me during all of that.

ive also read that drinking red raspberry leaf tea (dont do this if youre pregnant or theres a chance you could be, though!) over a period of time lessens cramps. i dont think it works right away though, i think its one of those things you start one month and then feel the effects of it the next. you might want to read up on it!

Raspberry tea will work best to control your problems with cramps during your menses. It also evens out your mood swings.

When you brew your cup of tea, make sure that there is a cover over the top of the cup. Even if you have to set a plate on it. This keeps the essential oils, basically the 'active ingredient" in the tea, from being lost on the steam rising from the sp. Don't use boiling water, but water that is *almost* hot enought to boil. Brew for about 3 min at most. AMore then 5 the tea gets rather bitter. However, it will concentrate the essential oils and the flavanoids from the herb.

Be careful using chamomile. It does have anti spasmotid effects, but it is also going to cause you to have problems like diarreha after regular use. The Raspberry tea will be your best best. It helps to tone and strengthen the uterus and promote the general reproductive helath of women. I don't know too much about how it helps men, but I do know that it is good for your bladder. If you want to get a commercial tea, don't bother paying through the nose for theb herbal tea blends for the raspberry tea. Just get a box of the Bigelow rasberry tea. You can get at least two if not three cups out of one tea bag. :)

Don't sweaten the tea, it will counter act some of the hromal influencing effects it has. As far as I know, raspberry tea is safe to take undera any conditions. You want to be careful if you've got medication that you're on which will contraindicate with ibuprophin because the compnents of the raspberry tea that are anti spasmodic are chemically simmilar to ibuprophin.

Aside from that, drink plenty of water, make sure that you're electrolytes are at the propelr levles, and walk. The low amounts of water or electrolytes will cause you to have increased problems with cramping. Also, the walking helps to work the muscles in a slightly different way, basically giving them a break from the whole process of bearing down.

Placing a warm washcloth or compress against the tired muscles will help some too. Also will a light masage. Don't go with a deep one because itw ill just make them ache more. Aside from that, use a hot bath because it it will help to relax everything. If you toss some bath salts in, go for a relaxing blend, possibly something with a little lavander in it. It will help to make you relax some becaue it also has simmilar antispasmodic effects, but it's much gentlere if you use it in bathsalts then comsuming it. But I'm rambinging on.

I hope this helps.

One thing about chamomile is that it's bitter if it's over-brewed (steeping for too long). Just 5 mins is really long enough. Any longer and the bitter taste will come out. Also, there's a couple of threads in the Green Room that has excellent herbal suggestons on PMS and cramps.

If you can brew yourself a tea of chammomile and crampbark (available at herbalists) and then sweeten it slightly with some honey, I would really recommend it.

As someone who has had horrible cramps, I know that I wouldn't be in any state to utilize magick or proper meditation.

I would suggest going to your doctor. Ask for a birth control pill, which will (I am living proof) ease those awful cramps like nothing else.

If birth control is not an option, I'd recommend ibuprofin and gas-x. The gas-x gets rid of that horrible bloating and the ibuprofin (Advil) gets rid of the actual pain. It works.

A warm compress placed on the lower belly works like a charm. Just lay still and read a book or watch a movie while you rest.

Best of luck, sweetie. Believe me, you don't have to live in pain.

I know that I may ge a lot of grief for this, but for me the only thing that works to get rid of cramps is smoking pot. For some reason, it calms my whole body down.Sex works wonders as well. :smileroll

I don't know how it works for very painful cramps, but I've found that prenatal vitamins taken throughout the month are excellent for PMS. :fpraiseyo
Also lots of fresh food, water and keeping a regular sleep cycle can make an impact. If you can stand it, a little exercise, like walking or swimming can also help.
Red raspberry is a lovely unterine tonic and I tend to take it with bee pollen in herbal suppliments because I don't want the honey interference.
The more familar you become with your body, both inside and out, the more you'll be able to care for it. I mean, who knows your own body better than you?
Good luck, hon! Many bear snugs to you!!

Well the chamomile my mother grows must be a mutant version, because I have brewed it for only a minute in some cases (though not to digest), tasted it, and nearly spit it up everywhere.

Who wants to have sex when you're in the middle of excruciating pain and you're bleeding? :tongueout LOL!

When I'm in pain I always go for neurofen for painkillers. It's gentle, it doesn't taste foul and although I've never had vomiting-scale pain it works for "medium" (for lack of a better word) or mild cramping.

Also, I find if I take a warm shower or bath it helps to relax me and kill the cramps a bit. No idea why.

Why don't you ask the peeps in the Green Room what they use?

A mix of mugwort and sage (1 part mugwort, 2 parts sage) help...it's recommended that you DON'T sweeten mugwort with honey, though (not sure why, but I have 3 books that say that)...

Tea:
1/2 tsp of dried mugwort
1 tsp of dried sage

Steep in hot water for 5-10 minutes, strain and sip slowly. The mugwort may cause a bit of "highness"...LOL. But you'll get used to it.

I read somewhere about a tea made with Valerian works great but I can't find the recipe  The lady who owns the local shop where I live also swears by Valerian but she said she takes it in pill form because of the smell (boy that stuff stinks :blech: )

Another thing that I have done that helps a lot ....I made a little pillow (any shape you want) and filled it with rice (uncooked of course) instead of stuffing and when you need it , you pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes and you have an instant heating pad....it holds the heat for quite a long time too...I love it ! :) you can also keep it in the freezer as it holds cold for a long time also!
