This may be very upsetting to many of you, it was really upsetting to me...but I wanted to post it here so you could all send some thoughts to the boys family, mentally, and also light a candle for the soul of this little guy......
poor, poor child. I feel so bad for his family. And I also feel sympathy for the rest of the church. What this must be doing to their faith.......

I'm glad they did rule this as a homocide. On the news yesterday they were all high and mighty with "we asked god to save him and god took him home"! They were trying to save him from being autistic. It makes me wonder what in the hell are people thinking?

I agree, Gareth. Unfortunately, especially amongst some rural fundamentalist churches, any "ailment" especially that of the mind, is still shrouded in superstition. Many fundamentalist branches think of Mental Disease, as "Possession" or "Torment by Demons".
I cant imagine growing up with that line of thinking all my life, and then having to confront the effects of that belief, as harshly, and sadly, as these follks have. :(

I can hardly believe that... that poor boy, and his family. It's really a shame that such a thing even happened, but for them to go saying the "God took him home" stuff is just stepping on his grave. :bastard:

Clearly, they weren't.
One thing that surprises me is that this apparently happened in Milwaukee. Seems like this sort of thing rarely happens in an urban location.
What must have been going through that poor kid's mind before everything faded out...

So sad – it tears me up to imagine an 8 year old being bound in sheets and sat on during an hour long prayer service.
Sympathetic thoughts for Terrance are good. In addition we should also be thinking about the likely hundreds of kids who are still alive, but in similar situations. Think about it – there are thousands of autistic kids in the US, and thousands of fundamentalist churches like that one – it seems that there must be hundreds of kids in similar situations.

No kidding. I couldn't handle an hour long prayer service even if I wasn't tied up!

It is such a shame the poor child had to go threw life and death that way.
I wonder if the adults could handle someone sitting on them for an hour, much less an 8 year old child.

This reminds me of the kids who have died as a result of "rebirthing", which also involves sitting on & otherwise restricting a kid's movement.

Reminds me of inquisitors "pressing" someone to death trying to wring a confession out of them.

I don't believe he was sat on, only wrapped too tightly in the sheets. Just a small difference, eh? The poor mother who was only trying to get some help for her child, to be taken in and convinced that prayer could cure autism. She must be in a virtual hell herself at this point. Maybe some bible-thumpers will see the stories about this tragedy and think twice.
So, some Christians are whining about the kids today being in trouble because they aren't allowed to pray in school? Uhuh, looks like prayer is certainly the answer. </sarcasm>
