i've been thinking of reiki for quite a while now, and now there's about fifteen gazillion posts here about it, i'm wondering if someone's trying to tell me something. anyway, where would be a good place to start out with this? and are there sites where you can learn online and also recieve distant attunements? should i read about it for a while first and if so what are some good books? and how would you go about doing this if you were, like me, pretty much broke? from what i've seen, it's pretty expensive to get attunements.

The price of Reiki training varies from place to place, depending upon the descretion of the Reiki teacher. So you will have to check that out locally. I don't think there is any way to do this kind of attunement online, (at least yet).
I can communicate with people I know very well online, through the Astral Plane, but using those abilities to effect the opening of chakras, etc, is way beyond me at present, (and I'm not a Reiki healer anyway...)

There is a site called Reiki Blessings. It is accreditted and the courses are reasonably priced. I don't know about attunements, but check it out.
