One of our Members and her family were violated yesterday in one of the most heinous acts of vandalism I have ever heard of. Her home has been broken into and completely destroyed. She has lost nearly everything. After scraping and saving for three years to create that home for her family, in the space of one day, it has all been destroyed. This is not the first major tragedy her family has suffered recently. They have suffered terribly.
Everything that was glass in their house has been broken. They have no dishes or light bulbs or even light fixtures. All of her candle holders and art work on the walls are gone. Her altar, the family altar and her eldest son’s altar were destroyed. All of her dragons were obliterated. The furniture has been ruined, her VCR was stomped on, and the dishwasher was taken apart. They wrote nasty things on her walls. They emptied a bottle of chocolate syrup, a jar of caramel and the dishwashing soap all over the house. They took a ten pound bag of rice and poured it out all over the house. They did the same with the sugar and flour. They egged her living room. They knocked over her bird cage and her sweet bird now has a broken wing. They poured jugs of milk on the mattresses and then turned up the heat in the house to over 100 degrees so it would sour. The police have told her to contact her renters insurance which she doesn't have because she can't afford it. Her landlords have offered to replace the doors and windows and dishwasher, but can't really do any more.
I know that we are all hurting financially right now. So we are not asking you to send help if you can't. We do ask that you send her your positive thoughts and light candles for the four of them and pray a lot for healing and protection. Her mother has bought the kids some new clothes but for all intents and purposes, they have lost everything.
As a result of this horrible catastrophe Mystic Wicks is enacting our Help a Member Program. We will be accepting donations (money) via paypal. Money is not the only way to help, though! Clothes, furnishings, etc will be gladly accepted. If you have something you would like to donate please contact SugarMags and she can give you directions on how to get your donation where it needs to go.
To donate money please use this link:
https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=mol%40cox.net&item_name=Help+a+Member+Program&item_number=help001&no_note=1&tax=0¤cy_code=USD
All donations help! It doesnt matter if its a dollar or 100 dollars. And ALL of your money will be going to the member in need. Semele and I will take care of the Paypal fee's, etc.
If you can help....please do. Thanks!

Is there anyone brought in for vandalism? Is it in the papers somewhere? What city did this happen in? This makes me so mad!
I'm trying to think of a way to help. I just found out I got a job today, so we won't have money for a while yet. I may be able to donate something else though...will look SugarMags up.

*smiles* I've got altar supplies I'm not using any longer. Looks like this is why I was holding on to them.
Also clothing if needed, and some replacement bathroom stuff.
Unfortunately cash is short for Phoenix and I, but I've definately got the goods to share.
SugarMags, sent you a PM hon! Just let me know. :)

She's very lucky that the bird hasn't died of shock. The only thing that probably saved it was the fact that the vandals turned the heat up so high.
I have some supplies I can round up and send, too. I'll see what I've got around the house tonight.

I have to ask one question...was this action due to the beliefs of the victim involved? If the answer is yes...I will be send out much more than energy and prayers. :bad:

There were five other apartments in her complex vandalized in a similar manner, so I don't think that was the motivation at this point. There were nasty things written on the walls but nothing calling her evil or pagan, etc.

I know I have some bathroom stuff, and I'll see what I can do about the clothes, I may have some stuff that will fit. I will see what I can scrap together. OMG! Why are people so cruel???? They couldn't simply rob the place and leave they had to destroy people's lives?????????
Anyway. I'm so sorry about this. I wish I was able to give something, anything. But I have nothing and no money to donate.
The only thing I can offer is my love and good thoughts and many candles will be burned later to send as much energy as I can their way! (My bird will also be sending her healing energy to the poor one who got hurt. :( )
What goes around comes around--and this had better come around!
I would like to say a big thank you to all of you. I think it's remarkable how tight-knit this community really is and how we band together in a time like this is just amazing.
Blessings to all of you!

What sizes do the boys wear. I have some boys clothes that I would be happy to donate. And what sizes do the adults wear. I'm forever holding on to clothes that I "might wear again" someday, that I know I never will.
I'm just so floored that these families have to go through something this horrible, especially one of our own...
Candles is lit, as well too...

It's not me hon!! I'm okay! It's a good friend of mine that this happened to. Single mom with three kids doing her BEST to make a good life for them and something like this happened.
I had to help. I couldn't sit up here knowing how hard she's worked for everything she has done for her family. and sit here at the other end of the computer screen and NOT do SOMETHING.

I'm so sorry that this had to happen to someone who didn't deserve it. Some people can be so vicious...I wonder if they ever stopped to think that it could be them and their families? Would they do this to their own grandparents or parents? Would they do this to their siblings or friends?
I regret that because I'm poor and in school right now, I have no money to spare and nothing to donate, but I will keep this family in my thoughts and prayers.

okay I think Star already gave the sizes but I'll reiterate. The oldes son wears an 8, the younger son wears a 6/7. The little girl wears a 4/5. A 5T is too short in a certain area. And, the little girl refuses to wear dresses anymore.
As far as sports go, anything sports related is good. They like cars, spider-man, the hulk, Harry Potter, LOTR and they LOVE legos. For the little girl, I'm told that the "sun rises and sets in Barbie" ;) The middle son's bike was also damanged beyond repair. Honestly I can't imagine how destructive a person would have to be to cause this much damage, but there you are. The kids lost pretty much all of their clothes, beds and toys.
I think we are pretty good on altar supplies but she does need a burner for loose incense (why can't I spell that?!)
Those of you who spoke with SM earlier, if she's given you an address already, check with me, we have decided to send everything to her work, where we know it will be safe and the most manageable for her since she can't exactly bring everything into the house until it's fully cleaned. If you already sent it out, it will still be okay, but from this point, I think work makes more sense since we have had such a great response.
I love you guys. THANK YOU!

I definitely have some books that I can send out. And my sister still has a TON of toys in their basement that she could mail if I cover mailing costs...it may take a little time for me to gather all this together, but I'll see what I can do. And I definitely have stuffed animals. I may even have some art hanging around...... John also said we could donate a little in cash through paypal. Not much, because we're really tight right now ourselves..but at least something. When I get off these pain killers, I'll go right to work on the rest of the stuff.
Is anyone looking into clothing banks, the redcross, etc, for them? Another possibility for those who might prefer it, would be gift certificates if a list was made up of stores in their area..specifically for childrens clothes (we all know that kids love to have new clothes...and that sometimes, sizes can be tricky...)

Good idea to list what we are sending-
I have several t shirts and shorts, a bathing suit, capri pants for the little girl.
My daughter is sending along two Babrbie's and some accessories.
My son is sending a bag full of legos.
My friend is sending along some clothes too-
We are on a search for kids books as well.

I gave a little bit through paypal, and I'm really happy to hear so many others are too! I was raised in an aviary, practically, with 13 birds to my name as we speak, so if she needs perches or birdseed and the like, let me know.

The cage was mostly okay, but the seed would probably be helpful since the Red Cross helped them with people food and not with bird food. If you could send some, that would be one less thing she'll have to buy I think. PM me if you want to send her some :)

Also I just wanted to let you all know that she is very appreciative of this effort. She has had a very rough time for awhile and is still managing to keep her faith and spirituality in tact. She sent me an awesome pm about how this is another trial that she knows she will overcome, but this effort has renewed her faith in the loving Goddess who has walked with her in this difficult time.
I have been in tears all morning due to the generosity and love flowing from these pages. This has also renewed my faith and spirit. We are sending her a check today for what has been collected so far to get some to her asap and I just want you all to know that it is an awesome amount and reflects the love and closeness of this community. I think when she gets her check for $500 she will feel the same. That's right folks..$500 in one day..a small dent in getting her and her family back on track but a huge statement about others pulling together. I am sure it will help significantly for the material things they need, but even more for the spiritual uplift we all need in these times.
Please keep the donations coming if you can, as she is starting over from scratch..well worse than that with all the cleaning etc. I am sure extra cleaning supplies would be welcomed as well as lightbulbs and such if you have extras of that stuff.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I love this community!

I have just forwarded the donation request to a mailing list that I moderate that has approx. 500 members, hopefully someone there will be able to contribute as well.
I also have a box of kitchen stuff...some pots and pans, sharp knives and a pile of plates as well as a few bowls, and a hand mixer, that I was going to give away to charity. I'd like to be able to send it, but I have to see how much shipping would cost, as it's fairly heavy. I'll see what I can do though. :)

I'm sorry that financial donation will have to wait until the 7, since I'm kind of short this month.

I started going through my stuff today. It looks like I may have some coffee mugs, some wall hangings (wreathes), some candle holders, an incense burner, a bit of incense to spare, some stuffed animals. A box of crayons, some books, a blanket, and some personal care items to spare (soap, shampoo, razors). I unfortunately can't spare clothes, and I don't know how soon I'll be able to send money, as John and I are realllllllly tight (electricity got shut off early this morning..obviosly, it's back on. Let me just repeat what my esteemed short witch friend just said....we DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO SEND MONEY IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY FOR YOURSELF. Heck, no one expects anyone to give anything unless they can. That goes for items and money.
So to those of you who are feeling stressed or left out or upset that you can't do anything except send prayers, energy, or light a candle...THAT'S WONDERFUL!!! KEEP IT UP!! Those things are needed just as much as the materials things.

Sugarmags,
Thanks for adding that. I wasn't necessarily feeling guilty that I couldn't send money, just...wished things were different for me right now so that I could. But..right now, I have a surplus of STUFF around my house, and enough money to send it in a package. It would actually be a good thing, kind of serving a dual purpose, helping someone in need, plus, giving away things to a "Good Home" that I might have let sit and collect dust, (what a waste) otherwise :) Plus, even though I may be tight on cash sometimes (well..all the time, lately), I know I still have more than many do, in other ways. So...call this a "deposit" on that "Someday" where I may have to face a similar situation..... hopefully, someone would be there to help me out in the same way...:)

Helpful hints from the daughter of Postal People:
In case anyone needs anyone needs shipping info (US) here's a link for y'all:
USPS--Send Mail & Packages (http://www.usps.com/send/welcome.htm?from=homedoorwaybar&page=0014send)
You can find the shipping rates and tons of info there. You can also order Priority Mail supplies (for FREE) on the USPS site so if you need that stuff, you won't be going back and forth to the Post Office.
Remember folks to pack your stuff carefully so that nothing will get damaged. If you don't want to use styrofoam in your packages, you can use bags of popcorn! (It's also a great treat for them when they open it up.)
I'm sure y'all know all this already--just wanted to help! :D

So far, I have boxed up a few books (btw..if mom reads romance novels, I have a ton of them I could send). A small selection of Incense. Two Votive Holders, 8 Candles of various sizes. Some balloons for the kiddies (please watch them around the little one), some crayons, crayola paints, a deck of cards, some calming tea, a box which can hold stones, herbs or whatever, a set of windchimes with a black cat on them. A white sheet which can double as a small table cloth, or altar cloth. I've made an offering plate which she can place on her altar. Some Soap, some little nail polishes for mom, or the little girl to play dressup with, and some glittery cosmetic stuff too just for fun. Tomorrow, I have to head down to my storage unit, as I have a wreath down there I'd like to send, as well as possibly some other altar items (including an incense burner), and possibly the coffee mugs (not definite though..I have to look) Unfortunately, at the moment, I can't seem to find that afghan I thought I had. I think we may have put it in storage..if not..i'm clueless. But I'll keep looking. I'll be packing some small stuffed animals too. However, I probably won't actually be able to ship all this stuff, till at least Monday... (after our verotel check hits the bank) hope that's okay :)
Do the kids like to do crafts? I have a HUGE jug of miscellaneous beads. I can fill a bag with them, and some fishing line, or thread or something, and they have them to make jewlery with. I also have some paintable stuff, as well.

Thanks for asking this Freyja... I sent this thread link out to three mailing lists I'm on, and not one of them has posted it yet. Someone on a Tulsa list that I posted a request for help is skeptical. Is there any sort of news story that I could share regarding what happened?
There isn't. Crime in a low income community isn't considered news in some places. If they are skeptical and they think I'm scamming them, they are free not to help. There are so many people here and everywhere that are giving, I'm sure we will make due.
My Mom taught me that it's wrong to question motivations/where the charity goes/etc. It's the spirit of giving that counts. I understand being skeptical with all of the news about scams and con artists you here everyday, but at some point, Faith had to intervene or where would we be?

August 29th, 2003, 11:59 AM
And I'd also like to point out that when I wrote the original letter, I only sent it to my coven members. Then people asked me if they could send it out to their lists and I figured "why not?" Then Semele and mol offered to do this and I figured "why not?" It wasn't like I spammed 1000 people asking for money. Actually, it never occured to me that people would send money at all. I only wanted to get some help -- any kind-- for my covenmate and my friend. That was the only thought in my head when I got up the morning after I heard. I knew I could never help her enough with my limited resources.
I could also question a person's need to get the gory details. They say they want proof. I'm suspicious and skeptical enough to wonder exactly why they need it. Do they need a picture of her devastated home? Do any of us actually need to see it? Hearing her daughter cry about her favorite broken princess glass over the phone, is enough for me.
But I digress and I ramble. I'm tired
I can't thank you all enough for what you've done. :)

Hawk and I have just sent a reusable Wal-Mart card express mail to the family. If anyone would like to add to the account please do so. Just go to your local Wal-Mart and ask to put $5.00 or more on account number 6008858749022015 or card number 068113169356. If this doesn't work, they may have to activate the card first, so try again next week and I'm sure someone here can help with any questions. We started the card at $50.00 and are hoping to see the balance become very large. This way they can get the things no one thinks about or food, school supplies, whatever. Godess Bless.

Unfortunately people are sceptical because there have been many scams pulled by jerks in general... :( Being members here and most of us getting to know each other as we have here makes it different. Anyone here knows that if it is presented here, you can believe it to be true. Try not to let it get you down. I think caution is in place with every on-line call for donation. So when I received the e-mail, I first wandered in here and sought for any evidence of support. Then I visited paypal and donated a couple.
I'm sorry to be the cautious kind. But I'd like to know for sure that my money is used for good causes.

It's a couple of days old and there are about six or seven other homes not listed. The people who are not listed were all single mothers and refused to sign the police report out of fear. (I shouldn't and won't say anything more about that). The cops told them tonight that they think it was a gang of at least four men.

My husband picked up a wal-mart card today, I plan to drop it in the mail tomorrow. It's not much but I'm sure it will help. We have to go out of town tomorrow but Monday I plan to box up some clothes for the little girl and see if I have any boy clothes. I have some kiddie videos and books. Unfortunately, I gave away lots of their stuff a few weeks ago, but knowing me I overlooked something.

I went to Wal-Mart today and they said I would have to wait until the card is activated. I wasn't sure if I could add to the card here in Canada but the lady said it's no problem. Another option for those who want to avoid postage costs for being far away. Can someone post here to let us know when the card is activated?

Thanks so much for that link! I told the skeptic that as long as we've known this member, I seriously doubt that they would try to pull something and the response is that she and another lady are packing up some stuff to mail on Tuesday :) She had seen a scam take place on another board and I could understand her skepticism, but the article will be very helpful. Thanks again!

I was one of the ones who asked if I could pass it on, and I was a little disturbed with the skeptical response - but again, I couldn't blame the person when they explained that they actually did see an entire board scammed with a similar appeal.
I'm one of those people who will hand a $5 bill to those people who stand with signs at the ends of highway ramps. I also don't question what they need the money for or if they're scamming - I feel it's none of my business.
There was one man who I gave money to on one occasion who waved, smiled and said God Bless to me every time I went by for a while. That he remembered me of all the cars he must see go by every day and acknowledged me was reward enough.

Semele:
Thank everyone so much for me. I have received so much from so many I am just without words. I was able to get the rent paid on time, get *****'s and my prescriptions filled as well as buy a lot of the things we were having to do without. *****'s prescription was a biggie and he wants to say a special thank you.
The WalMart card went for undies and socks for the kids, I found a door mat on sale and got hamper bags as we were kind of piling the dirty clothes in the laundry room since the hamper was broken up. I also bought new deadbolt locks and a type of screw bolt locks for the sliding glass doors. The kids for the first time after installing all of these went straight to bed without fussing. They feel safe now.
The kids have been thrilled with the toys and clothes. *** has been in girl happyland trying everything on. The altar supplies were just too much and I am so grateful to the friendly folk in Alabama, I hung the clay Goddess by family decision on the front door! The picture I received for California, once we can get it framed, has been decided by all to go in the family/living room.
The relief in being able to move forward is just more than you will ever know. My family is especially blessed by the Goddess. As well, there is no doubt that everyone who has been so wonderful to us will be blessed threefold for their truly unconditional love and caring.
We have been working hard, and while there is still cleaning to do, the replacing is pretty much covered. We are going to clean the carpets yet again, and the couch is having to be cleaned in stages, but looks much better.
Please convey my love and eternal thankfulness to everyone here at MW. I have never in my life known a group like the one here, nor seen such immediate aid. They were faster than the Red Cross in a Natural Disaster.
I love you all!

Also i wanted to say a personal thank you to everyone as well. The actions of this community were heartwarming as well as breathtaking. I love you all very much and I am so proud to be a member of such a large, loving family. Thanks guys!

This is the first time i've seen this thread, but i've responded as soon as I could.
I know this is redundant at this point, but reading this, terrible as it is, and knowing that people out there are responding...it really restores my faith in humanity in a big way. I get warm fuzzies reading over all of the generous and loving posts.
I know i'm new here, but if there's anything in my power to do, let me know. Please email me at kristin1986@yahoo.com
A list of stuff that has already been collected would be very much appreciated.
Also, some info on using paypal would be great. *grins sheepishly* Hey, i'm only seventeen!
I will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers.

Man! I just caught this thread upon joining...
I just moved into my own place, and now that we've talked, someone's going to be home at all times.
Having just moved, I don't have anything but my skills in art to offer. With time, I can make some artwork for your home. I feel that the destruction of art is the ultimate sin, and I understand that your precious art work may be irreplaceable. I will do what I can to aid you, though.

Here is another update for you all!
Another 5 apartments were broken into over a week ago. The police again met with us all and this time they say they feel it is a group of teens from the other coast. We all took that with two options...
#1 - they are still clueless
#2 - the gangs from Miami are heading west.
The good news is after all of the chemical stuff my couch is sufficiently recovered with some artistic throw pillow arranging that it looks just fine. George (my cockatiel) got his last bandage off and is right now hanging upside down on his birdie swing wolf whistling and flapping his wings. The carpets will have to be replaced, but I made an agreement with management and they signed off on them, so, I will keep the crappy carpet until I move then they can change it. With some critical throw rug placement it isn't that bad and after all I do have the three kids who would have eventually spilled red cool-aid.
I received a package today from Sherry in Oklahoma, she sent me some much needed silverware, even my new seems to get eaten by the dishwasher and some clothes for me and the kids. Bit by bit it is all been put back together with the glue of love and the love we received from you all at MW.
I have been playing catch-up for the time I missed at both jobs and will have this weekend off. The sheriff's office is having their bike auction this weekend and the boys want to go to see if we can get them replacements. You can sometimes get a good deal.
Once again I have poured out my heart to you, bless your heart sweetie you have the patience of the Goddess. Please let everyone know that we are doing a lot better and actually have a home again. Thank them all for me and send them my love and to you and mol and the kiddies as well!

Dear Lady,
When I first read of your plight on this site, I was awakened to the need of Pagans every where to unite in common cause against the evils of this world. Heretofore, I had been content to sit on my mountain contemplating the wonders of the creation surrounding me. I realize that I am hardly the man to lead such an endeavour, but I can at least make the suggestion and present it for consideration before the councils.
