have you ever thought of making more than one color scheme and allowing the users to just choose their own?

OK here is one of my famous dumb questions for you !! I just wondered if you can turn the color on a monitor off? Could she do this? Would it help her to see the screen without pain!!?

You know I am putor retarded but I have done this with color tv that was trying to quit on me and it worked for a little while!!

Just a thought!!

Kaylara, this is sad news about Mairwen! Would she mind us knowing what is wrong with her eyes?

The suggestions about user-selected colour scheme and changing colour on the monitor are interesting. I just tried playing with my monitor settings, and putting the contrast way down really darkened all the colours so the green didn't stand out as much. Mind you, playing with all the other settings has put my monitor in a state that does a number on my eyes! :bad: :) hehehe!

Playing with the settings again,

I've been legally blind since the age of 13; at this time, I was restricted to wearing glasses ~ hard lenses and astigmatism don't mix. (in 1995, though, I found out I could wear softs! praise be! i could see for the first time in my life!) Over time, the astigmatism decided it was going to correct itself, oddly enough. Three years ago, at the age of 29, I was diagnosed with macular degeneration in my left eye ~ that means that my retina is deteriorating. I have the "slow" kind, otherwise, I'd be sightless completely in that eye. Thank the gods for small miracles. I'm still able to wear contact lenses, but my optometrist has me in reading glasses whenever I use the computer or read or do needlework (and you know, I'm online all the time!). I have my regular glasses that I plug around in when I don't have my contacts in, but I can tell lately that the degeneration is "catching up" with me ~ because when I'm in these glasses, I have next to no peripheral vision in the left eye, and I have that tell-tale "blind spot" to the front that MD causes. It's getting more noticeable in my contacts, too. I'm not going to be in contacts much longer, I think.

Anyway. That's what's wrong with my eyes. Certain colors bleed causing me not to be able to see anything at all. I'll use Yvonne for an example. She had a beautiful font and color scheme on her AIM ~ and I couldn't see it because it was too bright. So, she made it bigger and a bit darker, and now I can read it. To some people, this doesn't make sense, because they have "near perfect" vision and don't understand the whole "can't see" and "those colors hurt" thing. But believe me, it's a real problem ~ and I'm not the only one with it.

When Yvonne popped in last night and told me to come to the board, I came over here and sat here and cried. I told EW and Yvonne that this was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I can't thank everyone enough ~ especially Mol and EW for working so hard on this! This is indeed a very special place!

{{{group hug!!}}}

*Look, Seph! I'm back!*:p

Mind you, playing with all the other settings has put my monitor in a state that does a number on my eyes! :bad: :)

*snort* Been there. LOL!

Hey...don't do that again!!! Thought some aliens kidnapped ya and were having their way with you repeatedly!!!

Welcome back!! Never assume that we aren't willing to jump through flaming hoops with a pig under each arm..just to keep the family together...cause we will. Or Mol and EW will anyway!!!

On your eyes...sorry to hear that. My old boss has Mac. Deg. She can't see 2 feet in front of her...but she worjks to this day. Sure she can't be a floor nurse anymore but she is one of the best managers I have ever had. She manages a huge maternal child float pool and does a great job!! I f you see her in the hallway and say hi to her she's like, "hi there....who are you??" Too great. She is very positive and always joking. She teaches a lot of the CPR classes, as well as advanced courses for healthcare practitioners. She is awesome and I love the fact that she has never let it get her down!! She catches a ride to and from work...thank the Gods!!!

Keep your good spirits!! You are not alone! I too, was just told a few months ago that I am legally blind in my left eye and not far from it in my right one. i was astonished!! I knew I couldn't see at night or read the t.v. menu from the couch, but didn't realise how bad it was. Luckily after two and a half months and four contact prescriptions later...I can see!!! The optometrist was very annoyed that I was responsible for drawing up meds with these eyes!!! Oh well....it's getting better all the time. i have seen more the last month than I ever wanted to!!!

8O8O8O8O ~ I want pictures!!

She can't see 2 feet in front of her...

I can't see past my nose without my glasses or contacts. *sigh* I have started having trouble driving and with stairs lately; I need to go back to the Dr. My depth perception is shot. :(

"hi there....who are you??"

I do that around the house at night, when I'm creeping around a la Hellen Keller. Getting the cat and Mr mixed up ... Well ... We won't go there. heh

WOW! I know what you mean about seeing more than you wanted to. 8O I was like that when I got my first pair of contacts. LMAO!

I hope something can be worked out, either with your eyes or the colors here so that you don't have to leave us again!! I know I'm a little slow getting to write this....but I couldn't form what I wanted to say...I still don't know exactly what it is I want to say, but I'm really sorry you're suffering with this...I can't even imagine!! The first time I suffered a migrane I lost my vision pretty much completely, and it was the scariest thing I've ever experienced!! Luckily, it was just because of the migrane....now I"m babbling trying to figure out what I"m saying....maybe I'll just shut up instead:D I really hope you can stay with us!! Elaine

We fixed her up. I made a font scheme that shows up just for her that has some really HUGE fonts! Now she can see again!
