i used bonjella for my little pumpkin, i swear by the stuff, id put it on a teething ring and let him rub it in whilst he soothed his gums in the right places. I know this works a treat because one of my wisdom teeth is coming through at totally the wrong angle and has been bugging me for years, recently it got so bad that i searched for something and found an old tube of it left over, well i rubbed it to the offending area and hey presto it stoppped hurting, so if it does the trick on an adult, its gotta be good! :)
Also the clear teething rings that have water inside, pop them in the fridge and the coolness really does help. I used to have a bout 3 and alternate whilst one was cooling.

I don't recommend this but my mother used to put a drop of whiskey on our gums!
Kinda explains some things about me! :)

Teething Tablets or just pure chamomila works wonders, Rescue Remedy, hard veggies or fruit that won't break off (like a large carrot or apple wedge) but you have to watch them closely (it works fabulously though and tastes good!), frozen washie, frozen peas (if they are eating solids), nursing and lots of TLC.
The first three were really effective for us. :)

The liquid painkiller (like tylenol or tempera) works well. Put a few drops on your finger and rub it into the gums:) Another thing I used to do (thought I don't know how old your little one is) is peel/core and apple, cut it into wedges and freeze them. Rub them with a little lemon juice first if you don't want them too brown. If they manage to bite off a chunk it just melts in their mouth like ice. It has more texture than an ice cube or a freezie and the apple helps to keep their stomache settled from all the extra acid/saliva they make when they're teething. Good luck :)

For me, my mom used to freeze stripped off rib bones over night and just let me chomp away. There's nothing that'll splinter and the cold helps numb that.
