I've used the runes irregularly for a few years, using Blum's system. I have trusted their outcomes and gotten some great advice through them; I made my set from a branch given to me by a tree sacred to my practices. I was never really Ms Divination though, having more talent in the herbs and words department, but I've got on well with the tarot aswell - hardly a pro, but well enough to read for myself and discuss readings with friends.
Two years ago I met someone who began teaching me Stav, but he had to move house after several months and there was noone left to continue teaching me. I had only examined the movements and sounds of the first Aett, and that far only as a beginner.
The point of me telling you this is that I am interested to know whether anyone else here knows of Stav and would be willing to talk to me about it and point me in the direction of some written material?
I think it's past time that I give up Blum's system and move on to something more wholistic.

Try here: http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=12684&highlight=runic+yoga Oddly enough, it wouldn't pull it up when i did a search of the Divination forum, I had to do a search of "all open forums"...
There's a great book by Jan Fries called Helrunar (1997 Mandrake of Oxford press http://www.mandrake.uk.net/main.htm ... if it's still in print, & you can find a copy) Besides a lot of other useful information, it has wonderful illustrations of runestadh.
Edited to add: Blum is important to the rune-using world because he is responsible for much of the revival of interest in runes. But rather than researching the Eddas & Codexes & other sources in the old Teutonic languages, he used the I Ching to 'divine' the meanings of the runes.
Tess, when you throw away your blank rune, you might wanna throw away Blum's book, too... get Futhark by Edred Thorsson & Northern Mysteries & Magick by Freya Aswynn (each available from amazon.com for around $10 US).

Thanks so much for all this information. I've joined a yahoo group discussing Stav and printed out a lot of the information on the sites so I can at least start practicing the stances and some exercises again.
I used to have that Thorsson book ages ago, but I lent it to someone and we all know how that goes! lol I'll try to find it again and pay it a bit more attention this time - does it refer to working with the 16 runes as used in Stav?

Would you share the name of that egroup here? Most likely there are folks that will be interested...

No... Thorsson may touch on the 16 rune Younger (Norse) Futhark, but most of his work is about the 24 rune Elder (Germanic) Futhark... & yes, there are stadha illustrations in Futhark (they look like I drew 'em... kinda like stick people :D ).

Certainly, it's: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stav-web
Could you recommend a reference to me on the younger Futhark? I think I need to study something which ties in with Stav pretty tightly...
Stick people runes are great! Could there possibly *be* any other way? :D
