This may seem backwards from most requests in this area, but here goes...

Several years ago, my grandmother bought be a pendant of a beautiful blue crystal/stone. When she gave it to me, it had a description about the stone and it's properties, but have lost it since, and can't remember a thing about it! PLEASE HELP ME! i love this stone, and don't know what it is!

It is in the shape of a crystal (3/4 inch long and faceted at one end), it think it might be cut like that though... a beautiful dark blue, and when held up the light, is translucent, and has crystal formations in it ( little crack looking things that you see when you look at a quartz). I wish i could show you a pic to help me, but i don't have a camera :awwman:

I hope you can help me!

I can think of several possibilities.

One is a Siberian Blue Quartz crystal, which is synthetic. The stone is clear and bright blue.

Another is dumortierite (a natural form of blue quartz) which tends to be translucent and comes in a variety of shades of blue.

Here is some information about them:

Since you describe your stone as "translucent" and having flaws in it, it may be a natural dumortierite.

I have also seen a lot of translucent agate dyed in bright colors such as blue, so that might be a possibility too.

Is it translucent like a chalcedony or translucent like a sodalite?

This could be soooooooooo many things that it's really hard to figure out without seeing it.

Is it possible to put up a pic of something that looks similar so that we could get an idea? I'd really like to help you and I love this kind of thing! (The challenge of course.)

For a moment I thought it might be a blue topaz but on second thought sounds more like sodalite or chacedoney. Shame there is no pic.

Sodalite is opaque.

Depending on the grade of sodalite, it can also be translucent.

For example: I use sodalite in my jewelry and there are some that I can see through. Though they are dense, you can see the light pass through them.

Some sodalite also has a 'labradorite' quality to them. My sphere is a great example of this. When the light hits it just right, you'd swear you weren't looking at sodalite but a great piece of labradorite or moonstone.

;)

well, I checked out your links that you left, and it was not really either that i could tell. I am not very good with crystals and stones, although it is something that has always interested me. It is the color of this sapphire, but has the shape and flaws of a clear quartz crystal wand. lots of horizontal "cracks", not really any cloudiness though....

Oh you are a lucky woman! Kyanite is a rare crystal that is absolutely gorgeous!!! I've seen it in much lighter blue (almost resembling a long blue topaz). It's what's called a "bladed crystal" in that unlike many other stones, it is formed more like long blades of grass than in chunks or the chemical composition of fluorite where is it formed in small diamond shapes.

I found this info for you:

As a metaphysical stone Kyanite aligns all chakras instantly and can be used to open chakras. It helps promote communication, encourages tranquility and psychic awareness. Excellent for meditation and dream recall. A wonderful stone for the New Age, Kyanite is also excellent for working on the throat chakra and third eye. Never needs cleaning or clearing.

Congrats on the great find!!! :D

Thanks for the info! no matter it was so hard to find info on. I have to confess since i found out what it was , i have been wearing all the time, during the day, and when i sleep (the chain is short enough), and i have to say my moodiness has lightened up quite a bit! for a while i was noticing i was quite bitchy (excuse my french), and i didn't know what to do about it. i tried everything. meditations, and grounding helped a bit, but not anywhere near what this lovely crystal has been doing for me!
