This is my first time to this site, and my first time actually carrying out my longing for information about the craft and what Wicca really is. In am an open book right now, and would like any input you can offer. I need to understand what my "powers" really are, and what my strengths are. I am looking to you for help. Thanks!

I don't know if I am doing this right. I don't know how to reply to your reply. Hopefully you can get this.
Can yourecommend any good books about Wicca. I am looking for the path that will fit me the best. Any ideas? Are you into the "craft"? I apologize for not knowing the correct terms yet.
Thanks!

Hi Genae,

Welcome to MysticWicks! It's a great place to find info & such. People here are quite helpful. Check out the other forums too for any topic. If you're not sure which forum to look up for your question, try the site search. Or just ask away...someone will have an idea where to look if they don't have the answer. :)

Thank you, I appreciate it. Having the desire to come this far, I will not hesitate to throw my questions out there. I think I have several out there already. :)

Hi genae!

Me too! I have only just visiting this site the last week or so and am very new to the path as well. I've read tonnes of books and I'm just starting to feel a little overwhelmed by the wealth of info out there!

I am very much looking for wiccan companionship as I do not personally know anyone who even remotely would think of following the path. Most everyone I know would be dead against it. So it gets a little lonely at times.

Can we be new together? Kinda like pen-pals? Although I guess these days it's e-pals!

Welcome to MysticWicks genae!

My recommendations for reading would be:

Wicca: The Old Religion in the New Millenium by Vivienna Crowley
Wicca, A guide for the solitary practitioner by Scott Cunningham

Those are two of my favourites, but there are many more, another which I really liked, but which I don't hear mentioned much is

21st Century Wicca by Jennifer Hunter

And like everyone says, just ask away, and someone is bound to be able to answer you ! :)

Bright Blessings,
Lilu

Blessings, Genae and WELCOME!

hehehe, I get to do the customary greeting again! Okay, first thing you get to do is pull up one of Kaylara's comfy couch-chair thingies and let Blue pour you a nice large glass of lemonade (be careful which pitcher you take it from though...one is just normal lemonade, the other is *spiked*...hehehehe). Anyhow, I hope you have a wonderful time here...this is a fantastic group of people, and we are all here to help you out!

In Her service, and yours,

I hope you are comfortable in your chair thingy. Ask what you wish for basic questions try the New Pagans forum. The elders check it often to make sure they help out us Seekers. Oh yeah and read the Seekers Bill of Rights. Remember Seekers Seek! :D

 Welcome, genae

I see you have been offered a nice chair  . Have some lemonade, it's great stuff, I also have a wicked pitcher of iced tea, unsweetened of course (don't worry, there are REAL sliced lemons in a cool bowl and some sugar nearby, if you want).

Lilu has some really good suggestions about books. Another I would suggest is The Witches' Bible by Arthur Waite and Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler (check the Bibliography in her book :) ).

I think you will like it here. It's full of great folks and wonderful discussions.

Merry Meet!
The book forum has some wonderful discussions going on about good books to read, and if you have any books that you would like to ask questions about, please do...
I would have to say that anything by Scott Cunningham is good for a beginner... If you are a little more advanced, I would suggest the Witches' Bible Compleat by Janet and Stuart Farrar... ;)

Blessings,
Kaylara

Greetings all!
Wow! What a wonderful response. I think I will like it here. Rowan, bring it on! I love correspondence! :) Thanks, too, for the advice on the books. I think I will have to get a few of those this week.
What would be your advice for where to start. Read first?

ur not going to use ur powers to hurt ppl are u. trust me the can go as fast as they came. in my point of view

Lord no!! I would never use my powers to hurt someone! I don't even know what "powers" I have yet. I have always felt that I have them, but have never tried to tap into their full potential. I was hoping I could do this.
I have had dreams come true, I think I have had people (or spirits) talk to me through my dreams, sometimes I know certain things will happen, etc. I would love to find out my true potential, and maybe help someone along the way.
What sorts of powers do you have?

It's me again!
Forgot to thank you for the comfy chair and the lemonade - I will take mine spiked, thank you! :)

"Merry Meet" and "Blessed Be" are here a lot. Remember, I am VERY new to this, so is there special significance to these phrases? Just wondering.

By the way, I have a drink called Apple Pie (very spiked) that I could serve beside your Lemonade! :)

I wouldn't call what you have as "powers" but talents. Alot of people come to Paganism/Wicca to become more powerful but that is not what it is about and people who are true to the path get put off by the term, IMHO.

I am reading a book that has a small point to it. Your talents could easily be researched in a "New Age" context but it may not give you the moral base to make sure you use it for good or at least to not harm others. In a Wiccan context before you decide to do anything you must first settle for yourself if it follows the Rede. "An it harm none, do as you will".

As for Merry Meet, at the end of a circle, a common closing is "the circle is open but unbroken...... merry meet and merry part and merry meet again....." Its in many basic books in the section for circle/ritual closing.

Blessed be is just what it says. I hope you will be blessed. That is the way I use it. It is my way of saying Goodbye, we will speak again, if not in this life maybe the next, in the meantime I hope you are happy and good things happen to you. I think it sums that up well.

Anyways I'm fairly new and my thoughts on these things are evolving so it may mean something different to me next month. They are what you make of them but are very Pagan sayings. So I guess it could be one way of talling Pagans from other folk because Christians typically look at you strange when you say "Blessed Be"

Thanks for the insight. As I read more I will probably understand more of the religion. I am so new at this, that my journal only has 2 pages filled in, and most of that are things I have pulled off of here and another Wicca site.
I always put the word "powers" in quotes because I really don't consider them powers, but couldn't think of a better word for it. Talents sums it up nicely, thanks!

Blessings,
Genae

i have lots of talet but the one i have the most of i learned here at mysticwicks. talet comes from training and from the heart.

Very true Sephiroth. Talent does come from the heart. It's nice to 'speak' to someone of the same view. A lot of the people that I deal with on a day-to-day basis do not think this, and kinda look at me funny. *Sigh*! Btw, where or how did you come to the name Sephiroth? I was intrigued.

Genae: Neat! It's good to have some people to talk to!! I'm still learning a lot too, but I'm learning to accept that this is likely to be an on-going thing. Which suits me fine cause I'm a regular sponge!!!

Welcome Sister,

Obviously, you have been well taken care of. Good.

Read first, I say. But remember to read with an open mind. As you appear to have not found your true path, it is easy to come by confusion. I would suggest starting on the subject of Paganism or Neo-Paganism. Books covering this topic generally, as a rule, have info on Wicca, Druidry, Shamanism and a host of others.

Also, in your first post, I was a little alarmed by you being an "Open Book". Be carefull, there are frauds and victimizers out there in force. They often diguise themselves as mentors or spiritual guides. Investigate fully before selecting a mentor when/if you get to that point.

Blessed are you who have walked into the light of dark, the sands of pure water and the awakening of your soul and spirit. Listen to the voice of you heart.

Again, welcome, and bight blessings to you, Sister.

I agree with Blessed be meaning I wish you are blessed but I had learned that it stemmed from the Five-fold kiss. ie. Blessed be your feet that walk the sacred path...? were you not stating with a blessed be to another that they are already blessed?

Thanks everybody!
You guys are great. I think I am definitely in good hands here. I have been trying to research the gods/goddesses. any good sites out there, or books. I have looked at the God/desses section in this site, but want to look elsewhere too.

Blessings,
Genae

"a name is nothing more that a name"
---ME

i got the name Sephiroth in sword classes because my best weapon was a nodachi and a ninja sword. im the only one in the state of alaska and MAYBE the usa with a nodachi that is 7ft long overall 1ft handle 6 ft blade. im the only one that know how to wheild it because its customed to my strangths and weaknesses.

and ive goten used to ppl calling me Sephiroth that i desided to make it my reall name also. the reason for me changing it is because of alot of problems i have in my life family problems. but i thought it held mystory and myth within the name. it means the one winged angel of destruction. i also play ff7 and sephiroth in the game is very simular to a character from the jewish cubolla story. and the story is were i got my final idea to change my name.
