Tell me oh wise ones.. Is it wrong or unwise to cast a spell, seeking a teacher or guidance? I have been practing alone for some 20 odd years and I think I'm ready..

I wouldn't spellcast, per se ~ but I come from a Tradition which doesn't do spellwork, so. Whichever, I've always been taught, and therefore teach, that when the student is ready the teacher will appear.

I know this is the wrong place to ask this, but does your path have anything to do with Gwydion the Wizard?son of Don?

Gwydion is a Welsh God, yes.

Well, you found your way here, right, Grasshopper? That's auspicious in itself. ;)

When I want to manifest something, I use the following process (inspiration from, & thanks to, DJ Conway-"Celtic Magic").

You will need: 2 white candles in holders; a cup or chalice or bowl, or similar container.

During the waxing moon, cast your protective circle. On your altar or work space, light the candles. Take up the cup. Think about all the positive things you are wanting to manifest into your life. Whisper these things into the cup. Hold the cup above your head, & ask the Ancient Ones to fill the cup with your wishes, & bring these things into reality. Place the cup (upright, so the blessings can flow into it) between the candles, & leave overnight.

During the waning moon, whisper into the cup the negative things you wish to be removed from your life. Same process, except turn the cup upside down, so the negative can "run out".

I've used this with success many times.

Thanks Rick.. I will try. everyone is talking about a special place. Isn't it better to do your spells outside? I guess I mean, isn't it easier to attune yourself with nature and the elements in an outdoor surrounding?

Rick

...Sacred Space is created when you cast the circle. Outside is good; in a bus station is good (just not very private :D ). Ask yourself, "Where can I connect with the Gods/Goddesses? Are they to be found ONLY outdoors? Do the elements & Nature stop at the front door?"

Anyway, you get what I'm driving at, oui?

...Sacred Space is created when you cast the circle.

Um. Not always. Some sacred space is created once and then becomes permanent.

Rick

...but not in a bus station.

Mairwen
June 20th, 2001, 06:14 PM
And who says you can't have sacred space in a bus terminal?

Sunday's Child
June 20th, 2001, 06:15 PM
would you want sacred space in a bus terminal?

Mairwen
June 20th, 2001, 06:18 PM
Well, why not?

Sunday's Child
June 20th, 2001, 06:25 PM
Yes, well, why not? It doesn't seem very private and so much energy floating around in busy places.no?

Mairwen

Look at it this way:

Everything and everyone is made up of the exact same stuff. Therefore, everything and everyone is sacred.

So ~ why not?

I would have to agree with Mari :D
I am a believer of when you are ready it will come. But 20 years is a looooooooooooong time :) Maybe you were meant to do it alone with only the help of your guides?

Now once I walked the path of spell casting. However I never really did it because I always believed like Mari does. Hence the reason why she is now my teach :) Well ok there are other reasons, but you get my drift. :)

Good luck to you though!

twenty years is not that long.. unless you are young. I guess I just didn't know there were people out there that believed in the same things I do. Thought I was just weird, still am, but that's besides the point.Anyway, stuff Iam reading in books is stuff I did naturally, it just came, I don't know where it came from. Mostly I was/ am just confused.. But what about the negative energy around, how do you keep it from seeping in?

Ya know, all things demand balance. A certain amount of negative is necessary in our lives. Maybe not comfortable, maybe not enjoyable, but necessary. Call me a crazy, but I invoke Odin & then Loki in my circles. To embrace Light, you have to embrace Light's Siamese twin, Darkness. Kinda funny how that works.

I understand about the balance, but can some people be more sensitive than others and negative energy affect them more readily?

Rick
June 21st, 2001, 12:04 PM
...just like some people are lactose intolerant. Even Balance comes in varying amounts.

Any good protective charm should keep away "excess" or "stray" or even "focused right at you" negative energy. Keep your living area smudged with sage, cedar, sandalwood, etc. It is a constant, ongoing process. Think of it like this: it's easier to not let your room get cluttered than it is to clean the clutter. Same principle with negative energy.

Make sense?

You sound okay in your path to me.

My teachers don't like me casting spells. They say it is altering the flow. They also say it is manipulation of other humans and reality.

Frankly I don't see anything wrong with getting ones way. Your guides won't let it happen ANYWAY if it is against your path. And my guides LET A LOT OF CRAP happen to me for teaching purposes. Sometimes my guides really tick me off.

One of my friends said:

"Most spells are cast to get your way. It is your wish to have something so you cast a spell. Pretty selfish. Unless it is a healing spell."

I don't know what I believe about this yet. I have been doing this for years and I still feel so YOUNG AND STUPID!!!!

Bye,

I think that my path is okay, too. I just don't have any labels for what I believe, I believe in alot of things from different paths. How did you find your guides? How do they talk to you?

I have been doing "weird" things for a long time, but I am basically coming out of the closet, so to speak.

I don't know if there's a definitive answer to that one. I sometimes just know things that I can't explain how I know it. Sometimes it's like a quiet voice behind me. Sometimes it's a full-blown waking vision.
Guides can be kinda quirky. This is probably gonna come out sounding wrong, but guides seem to have their own agenda. And they don't often seem to want to share the agenda with us. I guess it's intended for our good.
I tend to be a little more proactive than some; I try to make most of my own decisions, & save the guides for the really important stuff. Not trying to just sound glib. I know people who can't decide what color shirt to wear without consulting their guides. Weird but true.
How to find them? Hmm... how do you find your subconcious?... meditation?... prayer?... try talking to them?... Again, I'm afraid there are no definitive answers to that one, either.

Thanks Rick, that was a great answer. My question was meant, not to ask how to find a guide but rather I was just wanting to know someone else's experience. I think I am sorta my own guide. I mean somewhere in me I feel like I know the answers I need. I just have to learn how to recall them. I tend to agree with you. Sometimes you know something but aren't sure where it came from. I'm like that quite often. My memory is very terrible. I need an exercise to regain it!! Know any?

okay so I tend to lose my train of thought a little, okay alot. Yes, I do actually have a train of thought. I only have 9,999 questions left to ask. I'm a little anxious so my thoughts tend to intertwine.. Lack of focus, yes.. need to meditate, definetly!

My engineer sometimes forgets to leave the station... :)

OK, if you have 9,999 more questions, we'd all better retire to the pool beneath Mead Falls for a little while, & discuss them... :sunny:

I am not sure how to describe my version of guides. Do you ever have overwhelming impulse to call someone or do something? You hear about a party or meeting and out of the blue you go to it. Then you meet someone that you have not seen for years.

My guides seem to be the urges or impulses. I have. Sometimes they are loud thoughts. I don't actually hear them. I would be concerned if I did. Frankly, I don't want to hear them.

Okay - so, I go ask my seer about my path - or about a friendship, lover - work related problem - legal problem...etc.....the list goes on....

My seer actually can "hear" my guides and they tell her stuff that there is NO WAY she could possibly know. Seriously personal stuff that you would not tell even your best buddy....then you know the info is coming from an outside source.

WELL - they (the guides) feed you the truth, but you don't understand what they were saying until a few months or even a year later.

An example: My guides said once "look to the one that you have a close bond with". Then they say "be careful with this person"....

Okay, the only one I had a close bond with was my roommate. My guides said this person was envious and jealous of me. I'm thinking to myself (who would be jealous of me....yeah right....guide phooey)....I shared most of my thoughts, wishes and heartaches with this woman.

5 months go by, I find out that this roommate that was supposed to be my best and closest friend was a back stabbing person with her own agenda. She is and was in contact with my ex-boyfriend causing all sorts of problems on the back burner. She has also been sharing my painful experiences with other people verbally. TOTALLY NOT COOL!!!

I found out that she is Extremely jealous of me attending a dance circle that we both attend. My thought on this was - she really needs to get a life, but this upset me for about 3 months. I am now over the loss of her friendship ---- but was it really friendship???

My guides were right and I did not know it.

Then one time - I told my seer that I could feel the next man in my life. I asked what he looked like and I got 2 versions of different men. It turned out that 2 men liked me, and I was not aware of the way they felt. I later found out that both men were persuing me and I am somewhat dense in that aspect of my social life. I thought they were just friendly buddies.

I could have chosen either man at that point, so my guides described them both as One man. It confused me.

Then sometimes when I use my pendulum - My guides take the chance to feed me garbage readings. Then I ask - are you guys telling me the truth --- I get a big NO!!!

Rick is right - they have their own agenda's and it usually is not what you want to hear about. However, I have found that EVERYTHING that my guides have helped manipulate/move/change/ or stepped back and let me mess up --- was for my own good.

I have a friend in Atlanta that can see the spirits that follow people around. HE freaks out everytime I come over, because he said I have at least 6 to 8 spirits around me. With a very bright male figure that stands behind my left shoulder.

He said with most people - he usually does not see spirits. But when I come to his house, while he talks to me I see him look above my head and he gets kind of nervous. He said these are probably guides or family members hanging around.

Well, this is part of my life - believe it or not.

GOtta go-

Very interesting Babs.

I've only met one guide through meditation and he had a few things to say but not much at the time. Right now it seems I'm the only one in my family and circle of friends who isn't undergoing big changes - one friend's car got busted because she was in a car accident, she's moving out for the first time next month, she just got a new job, her parents just sold the house she grew up in, her dad had a stroke a few months ago, etc. My life is just so calm right now except for school - projects due - I'm almost afraid to find out something could change again :)
