Please help if you can. I value everything everyone has to say.

I was meditating on Athena last night...walking through a castle/temple thing chanting her name, and calling hymns to her. It was very dark, and I could only see in front of myself. I was walking through hallways.
Anyway, from out of a dark hallway walked a red haired woman (hair down to her waist I'd say) with a green velvet dress (ankle length) on, and some sort of goldish crown on, with very fair skin. She said nothing, and I was so surprised (not expecting to see anyone/anything) that I immediately opened my eyes, and when I tried to find her again...I could not. I realize now that I was startled, and got out of my meditative state. I've never had such a vivid vision...
Now this neither fits any description of Athena I've heard nor imagined myself....so I ask you...was that her in another form (I know that Athena often changes her form)?, my imagination?, or a different Goddess. And, if it was a different Goddess....why was she in Athena's temple?...what did she want? lol In fact, do you think that fits the description of another Goddess? Any ideas? Lordy, I wonder.
Thanks for listening. Please get back to me, so I can meditate on it again.

Perhaps the Welsh Rhiannon? She was said to have red hair, and I could see where she would wear a crown.

Or Macha of the Red Hair... celtic

I did run across this in a search engine:
"Athena's hair changed often. Most of the time Athena's hair was blond, but some times it was red, brown, or even black. She has a pointy nose and gray eyes. When Athena was on the battle field she often wore a helmet. When she was off the battle field she often wore a pretty gown." Source: http://www.acps.k12.va.us/barrett/ajello/athena.htm
But it isn't sourced as it's just a school project, so there's no telling whether it's correct or not.

I haven't found anything yet about Athena possibly having red hair, but I haven't found much mention of her hair at all! It might well have been her standing there before you! I remember when I had a meditation a while back on Persephone, she looked very different to what I thought she would.

hehehe And I came across this, but I think it's most likely fiction, but a cute story... http://www.kennesaw.edu/hss/shp/melton/ariana.htm

Well...I get the feeling it wasn't Athena. So, I'm going to research the others you mentioned. If you get any other ideas, let me know.

I have to go for a little while, but I will keep searching.

Another thought might be to check out Minerva, the Roman counterpart to Athena.

I'll keep in touch!

Could be Minerva, could be Rhiannon....... Dunno lemme take a look see..... I get the impression that it is more of a Celtic Goddess, with the green and the gold. Not to say everything that is green and gold = Celtic. But I know who this is.... I just cant think of the name. Ahhhhhhhhhhh yes. Guinevere. Not a Goddess but that is who you made me invision in your description.

Why would anyone else enter your "sacred space" . Well in my opinion things come to us when they feel we are ready, or when they feel they can help. Could be the reason why this person came . Something to think about anywho ;)

As soon as I read your description I thought "Brigid!!" But that might just be me.

I looked up a bit about each one of them...I'm leaning towards Brigid..but I am still confused at to why she (whomever she was) came to me. Maybe she has a lesson for me to learn. :D That's always fun. It had a Celtic feel to it, so I think we're moving in the right direction. I'll let y'all know of the progress I make.

You could check out the Welsh goddess Branwen. She seems like a possibility too.. :)

Do you think she could be some sort of spirit guide? I don't know much about spirit guides as I haven't really gotten in touch with mine.

PS Thank you all for the answers..

Hi ShyHawk,

It's possible that it could be a guide, but the description you gave really does sound like a goddess. I would recommend trying a meditation with the intent to find out who she is. Ask that she appear again and speak to you, or else show you more of her symbols... animals, tools, cultural style etc. that might give you a hint to who she is.

Here's a meditation that I've used with success to meet a guide:

But I would try being more specific first, ask her to come to you again, even if it's in your dreams when you are more receptive :D

I'd have to agree with LdyMorgan. Sounds like Guinevere to me too. The only reason that I can think of about the fact that she was there when you were calling Athena is that though they were different they were also the same. They were both very intelligent. You may have some reason for talking to Guinevere rather than Athena. Good luck figuring it out!

Thanks for all the posts! You guys are great, and very helpful. I don't know who she was yet, but get new insight everyday.

Hi Skyhawk,
Your vision sounds really inspiring and awesome!
Hera would fit for me because she has appeared to me on many occasions with Red hair, a small but so beautiful golden crown with delicate spikes on it and a Red dress..so maybe check her out too :D Maybe the crown has more significance too?
Good luck in finding more about your goddess!

Sounds like Rhiannon to me too. I haven't got a patron goddess or god yet - I tend to feel them as presences in my mind when I meditate rather than see them. I've tried visualising them, but I just 'hear' voices just behind me or sense someone behind me. A bit frustrating sometimes, but there you go! I'm not worried about it, if they want me to actually see them, I guess I will eventually!
