Chakras and their relationship to the Endocrine System?

Saw a diagaram of important glands in the endocrine system the other day in biology, and was startled to note that there seems to be a correspondence with the traditional chakra locations. Only the ones at the top are a bit unclear, since the diagram wasn't particularly specific about the location of glands in the brain.

Crown - Hypothalamus
Third Eye - Pituitary
Throat - Thyroid
Chest - Thymus
Sternum - Adrenal
Stomach - Pancreas
Root - Ovary/Testes

So what do you think? Is there really a relationship here, and if so, what could it mean? Could the functions of the glands be tied to the functions of the spiritual chakras? Which set of knowledge came first? Or is it just a big coincidence (some don't seem to line up in a perfectly exact fashion, based on the diagrams you look at)?

Do a search on Google (http://google.com) for "chakras glands". That they might be related is not a new idea and a few interesting sites pop up.

I like the idea. I'm a big fan of science and magic meshed, so I sometimes take for granted the relationship. I don't like hospitals, but a mix of medicine and magic is always nice. The glands/chakras don't really surprise me... what could be more intimately a part of your body than your spirit, after all?
