Just got a reply on a thread that showed me a site. You'll have to type it in your search engine because I don't know how to put the link here. Ancient History@ About.com Good luck.

You may want to look at Ronald Hutton's "The Triumph of the Moon". It's supposed to be about the origins of Modern practices. I see it recommended time after time.
For a look at the more ancient stuff, check out "When God was a Woman" by Merlin Stone, or her "Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood".
From there, you'll have three books to look in their bibliographies and see what else interests you.
And if you're into ancient speculation (where's Atlantis? Who built the pyramids?), I highly recommend Graham Hancock's "Fingerprints of the Gods" and "Heaven's Mirror". Most awesome. :D
Hawk, is this the site you wanted?

There is a section here at MysticWicks devoted to history, and another one devoted to books. You'll likely find what you're looking for in one of those sections. Just click on the main link at the top (the one that says "MysticWicks Online Pagan Community and Pagan Forums") and then scroll down to find the sections.

Oh, if you're trying to teach fundies how to behave, you may want to give them "The Truth About Witchcraft Today" by Scott Cunningham. It definitely comes from a "we're not evil" standpoint, and is easy to follow. Maybe doesn't give the most historical view, but a very good read altogether. :D

A really good site to use for helping to encourage religious tolerance is http://www.religioustolerance.org/
It's run by a guy who was in the first coven I worked with years and years ago, so I can personally vouch for the quality of the material. He knows what he's talking about!

There's another book I've heard of, and from the reviews, it seems like it might help you. The title is something like "What to do if Someone You Love is Pagan" or along those lines. Here's a review:

Good luck, by the way!

"Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler is a great book, but it might be a bit thunky for your purposes.
