This one has been a while in coming.

Has anyone every experimented with Binaural Audio files as an aid to meditation, OOBE, Astral Projection, etc? Basically they are sound files that utilize oscillating alpha and theta sound waves that when listened to using headphones have a profound relaxing effect.

While I realize that this is a fairly common practice in this day and age…I only recently ran across this tool. A friend of mine has been using this technique to help with his insomnia and while discussing my Astral Projection work he recommended that I give this a try. He loaded me up with several different files and I have been experimenting with them with some truly impressive results.

The real drawback here is that there are no distributable versions of these files available…at least that I could find. That is until now. Thanks to Detlef Pleiss for the Cool Edit script and many hours of my fathers (a true Cool Edit Pro guru) time I have finally managed to make my first Binaural audio file. I have experimented with it and the effect is comparable to the commercial versions I have in my possession.

I don’t want to bias anyone to the effects so, for now, I will not go into that in great detail other than to say that I have found the experience incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. I am interested in what you think however and I am linking my file for your free download, use and distribution. The ONLY thing I request is that if you choose to use this file…take a few minutes and post your experience out here. I am very interested to see if your experiences parallel my own.

I will end by saying that had I stumbled across this technology sooner I would have had a MUCH simpler time with my astral projection work. Happy listening!

To use the file I recommend that you listen to it in a darkened, calm environment using headphones. Headphones are essential as the sound waves oscillate differently on the right and left sides and this is the key to inducing this shift in consciousness. I would recommend that you try this before you go to bed…but if you choose to use this during the day don’t be surprised if you are dying for a nap after you are done.

Very cool. I am going to give this a try. Heh, cool edit, huh? I love CEP. It is the only digital multitracker I have ever really thought was worth a crap. :)

CEP is a killer app. Just when I think I know the app well though dad shares a lists of things that I had no idea were built into it. Its a monster. Way better than SAWPro that I used for years.

Yah. The only app that would compare is nTrack and that is only because it is free on TOP OF being pretty powerful.

Not specifically though using this file as a meditation tool followed by self hypnosis could easily accomplish a PLR.

Well, after 3 attempts to use this to aid in meditation I have found some problems on my end. Every time I used it I developed a 'headache' that was only present when in use. I found myself actually fighting the sound waves to become relaxed.

Maybe I am too set in my ways.

Bummer!
Yes and no. At least now there is a basis for anyone else who has this problem. I find it interesting that this happens to me. I would love to be able to figure out the cause.

I would like to understand the root cause as well. That is the first I have heard of the headache effect.

I guess a disclaimer is in order...if you listen to this...and it gives you a headache...stop! =)

This is a great tool Toad! I use it often, it has been an excellent aid in quieting down the ever so loud ego I have when trying to meditate. This technique was first introduced to me in college by a psych professor, and it is also a great tool to use for things you really want to burn into memory. (The class was psychology of learning).

Here is a link that gives more info on hemi-sync.

Sorry, while the former was a good link to the general site, it probably would have been better to give the link that goes directly to the hemi-sync info....

Thanks for the reply and link Niah. I am a little confused...did you try the file I created? Or do you have some that you have used for a while now? Just curious...

Actually I didn't try the file you created yet - can't on my work computer, but I will when I get home! The stuff I use I have had for a while now. I have some of the Monroe Institutes hemi-sync, and I have a friend that created some as well.
