I had a patient pass today. This was the first time I have experienced it while working. Does anyone know of a ritual that I can perform to make this easier for me in the future? I had a really hard time with it.

Hey Gavenia. I feel for ya.
I think this is something which has to be addressed on an individual basis.
I follow the Roman Way. We Romans allow ourselves the time to grieve, then we celebrate for the person we have lost. We do not believe in a heaven. We believe the afterworld is dark, cavernous and silent. Yet we KNOW that this is better than where we are now. All societies believe the afterworld is better.
Like Cicero said, "The Gods must exist because all nations admit that they do." And the same is true with the afterworld. Your patient is in a better place. We're with ya.

I have had to go through this alot in my nursing career. I have been given the gift of opening the door to the Rainbow Bridge for those passing forward. I have found that as I go through this with a patient, I let go of my mind and try to join with their mind. And ease them on their way. Afterwards I go find a quiet place and steal a few moments for myself and ask They Who Care and Create to help me move on. As an empath, sometimes it has been very hard for me to be with a dying patient.
HUGS and blessings to you.
