With all three of my pregnancies I grated some ginger root and poured boiling water over it (in a mug!), let it seep for approx 5 mins and sipped the resulting 'tea'. Hopes this helps! Keep us posted!(I'm interested in things like this as I'm hopefully going back to uni to finish of my BscMid!!!!)

She needs to experiment...even if it seems like something off the wall for nausea, it may be just what she needs. As for me, I found ginger tea, lemons, and (oddly enough) ramen noodles helpful. The ramen I think helped me keep fluids in and helped with my sodium levels. Helped me stave off dehydration. This is my third pregnancy...and it's the only one I didn't end up hospitalized for dehydration in the first trimester. :( How's that for a track record? Make sure she keeps an eye on herself, though..if she's feeling exceptionally fatigued and/or dizzy/faint, or if she's not urinating regularly, she needs to see a doctor/midwife to check for dehydration.
Good luck to your friend.

well she came over yesterday and she has had a history of gestational diabetes with the first one plus she is enimic....so with her being so dang pale when she came over here I was worried... she also is lactose intolerant so I gave her soem SIlk ( soy milk) to see if she could handle that without problems of nausia and that seemed to work...I sent her hoem with flintstoens vitamins since she has yet to receive her prenatals chicken soup and lavander oil for her bath to try to help her sleep... I also sent her home with tea... I will tell her what you all told me and I am hoping it helps her...

I've also got gestational diabetes. During my first trimester, the issue was less keeping my blood sugars low, as keeping them high enough. If she was pale, dehydration could be an issue. Make sure she's chugging her liquids...be they water, chicken soup, tea or eating lots of fruit, she's gotta stay hydrated!

She hasn't been to the OB/Midwife????
They actually can be of some assisteance and if she can't keep fluid down she may need to go have IV therepy in the hospital for a day or so...
Generally hyperemesis(morning sickness) does not obey the normal rules for nausea. Start off with things like an english muffin with jelly and some fresh fruit...no fats low protein, then advance the protein intake as well as advancing to more complex carbos...add fats last! Fluids work best if not taken with meals. They also work better taken slowly. Juice pops are great as is Jello. There are medications they can giver her that won't harm the baby.
Another reason to go to the OB/Midwife is that severe hyperemisis can signal problems...some as benign as twins others...well, not so benign. She needs care...If there is insurance problems she could call the local WIC people and they will advise how to get help. Please, it is time for your friend to be seen!!
Edited to add more info about fluids. Also toughing out morning sickness is ok if you can take fluids and are not loosing wt. If you can't tolerate fluids for more than 2-3 days, or you are loosing wt (even if you are overweight) you need help.

sorry to just jump in here, but "hi" and I have maybe an answer to morning sickness..I recently got some of this red respberry tea for my pregnant friend and she has serious morning sickness...maybe this may help your friend...
Red raspberry, where mothers and babies are concerned, is an herb made in heaven, and the best gift God ever gave to women. It is very nutritious and has more accessible and assimilable calcium and magnesium than can be had from almost any other available source. It is about the best thing an expectant mother can take to help her overcome morning sickness. It has most all the minerals needed to build a strong, healthy fetus. Red raspberry will help to maintain a strong healthy body and it will help to guard against a miscarriage. It will help to quiet and overcome premature pains and will assist labor and make delivery easier, because it contains a uterine relaxant principle. It relieves after-pains, and is one of the best tonics for mother and baby while nursing. It will help to prepare the mother's body so she will have an easier delivery.
Have a great day and blessed be,

I think that a call to the doc is a great way to go and get some Tigan which isn't so harsh for the baby! I had a hell of a time with morning sickness, and evening sickness...and well the nausua never went away...i woul dmuch rather puke than be nauseaus..(SP?) anyway, Prenatals are great and all, but for me I couldn't take them, it was too much. Iron is a good thing for her to take, and maybe she has gestational diabetes again...I hope all workso ut for her! I feel her pain! But get some Tigan, it helped with me, and you ahve to keep food in your system!! No matter what!

Being a mother of 2 I had morning sickness with both of my pregnancies. If herbal remidies aren't helping tell her to ask her doc for a prenatal vitamin that controls her morning sickness I did and believe me it worked i can't remeber the name of it but I know it was blue and it is fairly new. I reccomened it highly I was miserable before I goot on it. Blessed Be.
