Dear Crazed,
This issue has been discussed at length in this thread:

There is no clear answer. I personally believe that Christianity and Wicca are separate, distincts religions, and while you can combine aspects of each into a theology of your own, the result is neither Christianity or Wicca, but something entirely different. Others disagree, and say that the two religions can be combined while each remains intact.
That said, it is entirely possible to combine Christianity and witchcraft (the magical craft, as opposed to the religious theology of Wicca).

Yes, there is actaully a religion called Christian Wicca. I'm a Gnostic Christian Wiccan, if there is any name for it.

Could you explain briefly how that works? Do you still accept Jesus as your savior? And do you believe in a God & Goddess?

I incorporate some of the ways the holidays are celebrated. (Only my hsband knows about my religion, my parents, etc don't know) I mean, I can still decorate eggs, celebrate Halloween and Yule with them and not be questioned. I too was raised a Christian and my family would probably disown me if they knew. (Even though I am 26, considered by most an adult capable of making my own choices.) I just hope you can find a middle ground that will please everyone.

I have a friend who mixes the two...she sees them as two parts of one whole and doesn't have a problem with it. One note here though, is she is not really combining Wicca with Christianity but Witchcraft -- or rather alternative spiruality -- instead. I agree with Ben about the combination of the two philosophies and doctrines...one cancels out the other. *shrugs* maybe it is possible for some, but it wasn't for me and that's just MHO.

Yes, we except Jesus Christ as our savior, while also believing in God and Goddess.

You know, I've never met anyone who claims to work with both perfectly intact - everyone I've heard of working with both borrows bits from each and mixes them together. Much like a Tameran Wiccan might borrow a bit from Kemetic myth and stick it into a Wiccan circle, or someone might call Aphrodite into circle to do a love spell, and so on and so forth.

Hi Rose, Ben and all-
Ben, while the Christianity we are used to doesn't seem to be compatible with Wicca to me either, I can see some coherence to Rose's approach. Gnosticism was one of the earliest forms of Christianity, and it was eliminated after Roman Christianity got governmental backing following Constantine's conversion.
Gnosticism is very different in that it posits that the traditional Hebrew God is an evil deity, who is not acting in accordance with the higher god, Sophia. The Gnostic belief is that Jesus was sent by Sophia to rescue us from God. There is much more, and some original gnostic texts here: http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/gnostics.html
Of course, most Christians today see gnosticism as heresy :smoke: , and don't consider gnostics to be Christian. Gnostics deny the trinity, the god yahweh, the teachings of paul (and most of the new testament), etc :hairraise . However, regardess of what others may say, I think they as justified in calling themselves Christian as anyone else. :graduate:
Have a fun day!

I don't know if it's necessary to get so exotic as Gnostic Christianity. The early christians in the Brittish Isles were wonderfully pagan: merging the local goddesses within the christian belief system (Like bridget became "saint bridget or st. bree). It was a form of christianity that was completely different from the romanized and other forms of "harshianity". the tradition centered on healing, the land and community. Not bad, eh?
The most accessible reading material is by Matthew Fox (who has co-taught with Starhawk- a witch). Fox writes about celebrating the seasons and creation. His view of the cosmic christ is not at odds with the pagan world view. The church, of course, excommunicated him for his views, but I think the world is better for it.

How about Santerķa? There you have Yoruba polytheism and Catholicism thrown into one big cauldron. They seem to pull it off. But it doesn't address the two Gods of Wicca vs. the one, or should I type The One God of Christianity.
Perhaps, it is the type of Christianity that is being incorporated?
Catholics and some more enlightened Protestant denominations (to me) seem more accepting of others than say, the Southern Baptist Coalition's version of Christianity.
That's just my opinion.

The mind is capable of an infinite number of nearly-impossible gymnastic feats. So yes, not only can Christianity and Wicca mix, Satanism and Christianity can mix, Egyptian-Reconstructionism and Christianity can mix, Asatru and Wicca can mix, Asatru and Christianity can mix (and that's damned tough), and you can even have all of the above in a single coherent religious belief systems.
(it's called 'ecclectic wicca')

I was also raised christian. It was difficult for me to give up christianity... simply because I was raised that way and I had so many doubts, like what if there is a hell, etc... When I started reading about wicca, a lot of what I read made complete sense, but I still held on to my belief in one god... for a while.
To be brief, I went through a puzzling time where I viewed myself a christian witch. I believe it was a stepping stone, a way for me to transition into becoming wiccan.
After all, your beliefs don't change just overnight. You need time to contemplate what you believe in. So, yes, I believe that christianity and witchcraft can be combined.
