I had to read the epic of gilgamesh for my history class at university two semesters ago. Loved it.. was so vivid and interesting..

I liked it but I think most people interperate it totally wrong! It isnt about immortality and the 'potion' for immortality its about morning a friend, and stuff... Most of my research has only pulled up the alchemy portion of the story... or the shamanic portion... but people seem to forget all about poor Enkidu in the search to revive him!

I agree with you.. I did an essay about the loss factor and how differently we deal with our emotions and the diffrence in how genders are treated. etc..

I read a book recently by an author (Maggie Shayne) who writes books about Vampires. This one was about Gilgamesh being one of the oldest of vampires, and his journey through time. In this novel, he finally comes out of hiding to the other vampires and talks of his loss of Enkidu, and why he'd given up so much in order to live among the immortals. It's not an epic, and it is not on the level of Anne Rice, but it's nice reading anyway!
