I saw this article in the local paper today. I think this psychologist gave pretty good advice on parents talking to teenagers who are interested in Wicca. What you do think?

lol... parents get often scared when their children are attrackted to the occult. ofcourse this is only due their lack of knowledge on the subject. It's quite understandable, I think. When someone says the word "witch" people see in their minds eye a group of youngsters all dressed in black and sacrificing animals and drinking blood. Ok that was a bit harsh. But people don't know about this subject. It's almost like your daughter/son told you s/he's homosexual. It needs time to get in terms with it.

But then again we can ask how serious a 13-year old can be with this.

Very good advice :fpompoms

I particularly like the bit about trying to get the minister to babble incoherently.

I don't think you should force your child to go to a religious place, like church. Religion should never be forced. Making a child go to dinner, or to Wal-Mart, etc...ok....but not a Church, mosque, what have you.

I agree. My dad made me go to church with my grandparents every Sunday for about a year when I was about 10 and to this day I haven't forgiven him for that, no matter how much I love him. I felt out of place, like everyone was looking at me, judging me. This did not make my relationship with my grandparents any better either - much worse in fact because I blamed them for me having to go.

It was pretty good except for that BS about "good witches never attract attention to themselves"

Wow - awesome response, and I think we should stick it in the new pagans forum since we have soooooo many young people join who are dealing with this issue - we must have 500 threads.

That's a good idea, Freya, and obviously one I didn't think of. What do you say, mods?

It was ok up to:

"In any case, you are going to church with us. We do this as a family. You don't have to listen. You don't have to believe. You can even sit there and practice casting spells. Perhaps you can cause the minister to begin babbling incoherently."
that's just ... well... I'd rather not say what I think that is...
