Anyone ever grow Eucalyptus? My Eucalyptus plant is not looking so good, in fact it looks dead. Anyone have any tips on watering, not watering so much, sun, shade?

I have a eucalyptus too. They're really, really finicky. Is yours grown in a pot? Mine is in a large pot, sitting on a sunny window sill. I have to baby it a lot. They're rated as Z9-10. Which means they like very warm sunny conditions. Z11 is tropical (to give you some idea). Not sure what kind of temp you have if you're keeping it outside. If it is outside, they like nighttime temp to be at least 50 deg f.

They like full sun, light soil but well drained. Eucalyptus are very heavy feeders. You will have to feed it every 2 weeks. They don't like being overwatered either but they need frequent watering. It's quite common for them to drop their leaves. The leaves will turn brown & drop off if they're overwatered or stressed in any way. It really doesn't take much to stress those guys out!

well [chuckle] my Eucalyptus is brown stick with no leaves right now. I keep it in a window box outside. I am in Connecticut, and the weather right now is in the 80's and maybe 60's at night. It is placed in direct sunlight outside. The soil is rich and dark, maybe I am overwatering.

How much of a difference is there between the tree and the plant? What does the plant look like?

Well, the "plant" can grow into a 240 ft tree under the right conditions. I think here in Canada, I'm not going to get that kind of conditions. :D Mysty, try giving it a teeny tiny little bit of water first (unless the soil is already moist) and then give it a bit of plant food. You didn't mention if you feed it often. If I don't feed mine regularly, the leaves turn brown & fall off. How long have you had it? Did it overwinter outside?

There are different varieties of eucalyptus...some have roundish leave...the kind you find in floral arrangements. Some have more elongated leaves.

Here's a good description on eucalyptus...sorry, I haven't found a picture yet.
