As I have come to know more about myself over the years, I realized that I have a very loud ego, i.e. the voice that interferes with the function of plugging into intuition. To provide a little background, my natal chart contains NO planets in the element of water....zip. I find that alot of my intuitive insights, and possible divinatory messaging occurs in dreams. I attribute this to the fact that it's the one time of day that my ego/conscious mind is not in charge, and therefore the subconscious mind and intuition has room to roam free.

The problem is, I would like to find new ways of plugging in to this source while I'm awake, or as close to "at will" as I can get, realistically. I refuse to accept that I simply just don't "have it."

I am also in process of breaking the habbit of overanalyzing by trying various excersizes which help to quiet down the ego a bit (meditations, yoga, even some psychology manuevres) in hopes that this might help to plug-in to and TRUST my intuitions more.

Anyone else have/had this type of difficulty to overcome for certain types of divination? Anyone have any suggestions on a different approach towards cultivating one's intuitive knowledge?

Many thanks for your ears!

~Peace

Pardon the question, but I'm a smidge unsure of what you mean. When you refer to "ego", are you talking about the Fruedian concept of a mediating factor between the Id and the Superego, or are you referring to the concept of self-pride and arrogance (ie, "He's got an ego the size of Montana! He thinks he's the best [whatever] in the world!" kind of thing)?

Neither, really. The function of the ego under a Freudian scope is simply a demand facilitated by the senses - (i.e. "I want that NOW") without the intercedence of rationale. The ego I'm referring to here is the one as understood in ceremonial magick (although other magickal systems have different names for the same concept). I'm talking about the aspect of one's self that keeps one attached to the "real world". By that I only mean mundane existence.

The ego, in this case, is that which tells you, YOU ARE HERE, or THIS CAN'T BE REAL, or that which connects you to the physical/rational realm. For example, have you ever tried to meditate and found it difficult to silence your mind? Like every sound in the room grabs your attention? Or it keeps wandering off somewhere, like "I have to pay the bills" or "Oh, I forgot to call Sally today" or "Gee, this carpet could use a cleaning". Quieting the ego is difficult to accomplish, and for some, it is extremely difficult. Many mystics feel that it is necessary to silence or at least quiet down the ego in order to more firmly connect with one's magickal link. Too much interference of the mind also interferes with magick.
