I've been peeking in for months now, since my last post that I was expecting my first child. Well I thought it might be time for an update since I've been gone for so long...and I've been giving a lot more thought to how I'm going to raise this child and all...and this board has been helping me out alot so far...
I'm now going into my 9th month (am 35 weeks right now). I had an ultrasound last month around my 28th week and the technician said I'm having a boy. Though she didn't let me see the proof...she wasn't in much of a good mood that day for whatever reason. So I've chosen a girls name along with a boys name just to be safe. :)
Boy: Jordyn Alexander Charles
Girl: Jordyn Emily Elizabeth
According to my mother this little one is going to be the first grandchild and great grandchild on both sides of my family.
Unfortunely my mother or any of the rest of my family will be in town to be here for the birth. They live on the east side of the country (Canada) and I'm stuck in the middle (central Canada), in Saskatchewan. But I've got a great bunch of friends, and one of my best friends here is my birth coach. Am thinking of asking another of my friend's if he would like to take pics for me and be there too, though I'm not sure about that just yet... Another friend of mine offered to take pics and video of the whole experience but I'm not feeling very comfortable around him these days...so don't think he'll be doing that... I am hoping to take a trip east this summer to visit my family before this little one gets older than one. My mom, when I was born, was able to make it back there to get a pic of the 4 generations of women in our family... my great grandma, my grandma, my mom and myself... So I'm hoping to do the same thing....
My due date is December 3rd, but my intuition is telling me he's going to wanna come out a week or two earlier than that. *laugh* So far I've been on target for my due date, though this little one is a tad big according to my doctor.
Right now, the most I have on my mind is (besides the birth itself *laugh*) how I'm going to raise this little one. Do I want to raise him as pagan and let him decide for himself which way he wants to go when he's old enough to make the decision...or do I want to just leave it up to when he's old enough to make the decision himself... The more I think about it the more I want to at least share my beliefs, or at least instill in him the basics and let him go on his own from there... A friend of mine let me borrow a book of his called Circle Round: Raising Children in Goddess Traditions by Starhawk, Diane Baker, and Anne Hill. I'm finding this book to be invaluable so far, to the point that I'm going to get a copy of it for myself. Has anyone else read this book?
I know my family is going to be asking about baptism and such, which I won't be doing but will be doing a naming/promise ceremony....where he'll be introduced to everyone along with the deities and elements, and his guardians will promise to teach him about life and all the different religions... I don't know how to handle this "baptism" thing with my family though. I know my grandmother and the other older generation of my family is going to make a HUGE fuss about this, though my mom will be more open about it than I might think. People have suggested that I don't tell them what I'm going to do, but just tell them that when he gets to the age of making an informed decision about his spirituality it's going to be up to him.
Well, thought I would say hi again... give ya an update on me and baby... I will definately be around more nowadays. :)
