View Full Version : Choosing a deck

I've had some misfortune with my tarot deck! While I was away at college, my sister, the dear that she is, lost like five of the cards...Of course they could be anywhere in the house, and there doesn't seem to be much hope for finding them. I loved my deck, but in light of this I am looking for another one. I was wondering what ya'lls opinion is on finding a new deck. I know some people that believe that finding the 'right' deck is extremely important, where as other people believe that it's just as important as the fork you use at dinner...you just grab one, and as long as it's not dirty no one really cares. What decks do you use and why? I usually just go by what feels right, but wanted a bit on insight before spending my money on something I will hopefully have for a while.

Your feels, I feel, toward the deck are important. If you don't like the deck, they won't inspire your insight. I would recommend going to www.aeclectic.net and browsing through the decks there. Find one that really catches your fancy. Then, if you can, you can order it online....or go to your local bookstore and have them order it for you.
I have several decks. Some I use, some I don't. The one's I use the most are my Robin Wood tarot cards. I feel they really speak to me. I also use my Rider Waite tarot deck, but mostly for spells or meditation, or dream work....so if I do lose a card or two, I still have my fav deck to work with. (I haven't lost any yet as I am very careful, but you never know) I do have a deck or two I'm "breaking in"....and the other's just sit on my shelf looking pretty. :D
I started out on the rider waite....then got a couple more along the way....Robin Wood, is one I waited on and finally decided I just had to have it. :D

I, primarily, use a Arthurian deck called Legend by Anna-Marie Ferguson. I also use a Universal deck but only for rare occasions and when I can't get a clear reading on the other deck.
Shop around though - I believe that the deck should speak to you. If they do not, don't buy them.

I love my Sacred Circle Deck!! Something about it just spoke to me!! Some say it's hard to work with but i find it very enlightening and easy!! Some of my pictures are different but it works for me!!
My husband says it calls him too but i won't let him play with it!! though believe me he's tried!! Told him to go out and get his own he got me this one so he knows where to find it!!
Good Luck

Rantnraven, that was the deck that I had and really loved! When I bought it I really didn't do much looking around, so now that I have to get a new deck I actually want to take my time. I might in the end just choose to stick with a new Arthurian deck in the end. It's good to hear that someone works with that deck too. There are just so many to choose from! Dagda Moon, that web site is great! I've spent a bit of time on it going through each deck that sounds interesting. The artwork on some of them is astounding! Thanks for the great ideas!

Merry Meet Mina!! :)
I totally believe that you should shop around too and see if any others jump out at you and say 'Me!, Read with Me!'.
The Arthurian deck is brilliant and if this is still in your heart ~ go for it! You can always buy an extra one later on :)
Ive got 'The Secret Tarot' and the 'Mythic Tarot' which I both love!! & Im eagerly waiting (the order's been delayed :( and seems to be taking ages because Im waiting for some books I ordered too) for the 'Sacred Circle' :D
Blessings in finding your deck :sunny:
