I'm starting to get frustrated with my cards. I have The Witches Tarot and it has some nice artwork. I picked the deck out at a book store and a friend stole it for me. Since then, I have tried to read... I did some readings for my family and they pretty damn accurate, except that.... it's my family. What the cards don't say I can add in and adapt to 'fit them'. (does that make sense?)
I don't know. I try to use my intuition... but I look at the card, and I say... okay, the 7 of cups... the water is flowing out of the cups onto flowers that are growing despite rocky ground... so, this card means... and I try to interpret it.... and then I look at the book, and the meaning is completely different! I don't think the cards go with the meanings at all! or maybe the deck just isn't 'my deck'
Okay.... now how do you cleanse your cards? Becaues I think i may be doing it wrong... the way I do it seems to easy... so I must be doing it wrong :P

Hi. Do you think maybe that since your cards were stolen you are having some problems with them? I know that I received some stolen tarot cards and that they just didnt seem to work right for me, so I got rid of them and started new with a "clean" deck. LOL! Just a thought.

The fact that they are stolen may not bother 'you', but it may bother the cards. All things must be treated with respect, even things which we label as inanimate, especially if you seek to work with them throughout life, whether magical or non-magical.
Your friend mistreated these cards by essentially proclaiming to them that they are unworthy to spend money on, and you continue to do the same I'm sure by not returning them.
I doubt you will ever truly produce successful readings with these cards. There's too much negativity surrounding them and yourself in how you acquired them.
You may not consider stealing wrong, but look at the grand picture. Sure, things do steal in nature to survive, but would you have perished without these cards? Not a chance. You have increased the cost of things overall (oh yes) for everyone, because that money has to be made up somewhere, and it will be made up by prices increasing.
These cards are no doubt made of paper, thus trees were cut down for them. You are hence disrespecting these trees in saying that even though their lives were probably taken to make these cards, you couldn't be bothered to pay for it.
Not to sound snide and nasty, but that's what stealing boils down to, and these cards are probably less than thrilled to have you as their owner.
I'm not going to sit here and inform you that you are morally depraved or anything, but I myself am less than thrilled that people like you are out there stealing, thus increasing the cost and making it harder for people like me who purchase things to actually 'purchase' them since prices keep sky-rocketing.

Uhu, what Raven said is very true.
All your possesions, must be treated with respect, espeically your tarot cards. They give you guidance and clarification and in return, they ask for respect.
You could try cleansing them, or you could try reading with a different deck, and see how that works.
Did you read with them at one time? Or have you never been able to read with them?

I agree with Raven. *stop the presses OH MY GOD*
seriously.. cards feed into the world around them, and the fact that they were stolen will seriously affect your ability to read... it may not bother you. But it bothers the world & energy around you. Buy a new deck.. i'm sure that it will work better for you.

I fully agree..tarot cards are very sensitive to the energies around them, and I'm sorry, but stealing something generates negative energy..whether you did it yourself or had your friend do it for you. Your cards are just reflecting the energy they've been imbued with by the method by which they were acquired.

I can't say anything that wasn't covered already by others. For me, knowing that something was stolen, especially items used in a magickal or divination manner, I would refuse to accept or use. It just wouldn't feel right.
