This message was posted on another board I have begun frequenting and I think it should be posted here too.

As I mentioned on another thread, I volunteer for Siamese Rescue, which is an organization that rescues abandoned, abused and homeless Siamese (Meezers) and Siamese mixes and finds homes for them. I got involved when I became an adopter myself (and now belong to a beautiful, sweet 9 year old purebred chocolate point Meezer named Sasha). Since their inception, SR has rescued over 3000 abandoned/homeless Siamese.
Well, lately there has been a MASSIVE influx of meezers in need and the result is that the Virgina center is facing being forced to turn away cats in need. In one day last week they had over 20 new rescues referred over to them. Siamese are the number one breed to turn up in shelters. They're very people-oriented cats; mischevious, talktative, curious and active. Not everyone has a lifestyle that works well with that. But if you're the kind of person who likes little chatty bossy people in fur suits, a Siamese may well be just what you need. Me personally, I adore my Meezers. They're smart and funny and sweet. It's a myth that Meezers are mean - they're actually more likely to be OVERLY affectionate. Like all extremely intelligent breeds of pet, however, if they are mistreated they can become very antagonistic. All of the Meezers that I've ever had were very loving, affectionate cats.
SR is a nonprofit corporation funded by donations and staffed by volunteers. They need help desperately, and we volunteers are putting the word out... if you're interested in a Siamese, consider adopting from these folks. It doesn't matter if they have a center in your area... they have an affiliated group called Meezer Express who will get your new cat to you at no charge to you. If anyone has more questions they can contact me or visit the website: http://www.siameserescue.org/.
Please feel free to forward this message along to other forums if you like. I'll be posting it a few other places as well. And my deepest, deepest thanks to everyone who can help get the word out, or help Siamese Rescue in any way.
It's raining Meezers!
