Hello all,
Im looking for help in identifying some stones. My son bought me a 'bag of stones' and though they are lovely I am unsure what they are. They are polished and are many different colors so Im sure that there are several kinds there. Anyway I was pretty sure that the last time I was in here there was a thread that linked to a stone I.D. site...could anyone repost it?
Also I just had to share this, while on vacation in Florida I ran across this wonderful shop that sold stones amoung other things. The day I was there they were running a 40% off sale on their rocks. I bought the most incredible rock, I believe it is Agate. It is literally half of a rock but it is split in half, a cross section of a rock if you will. The exposed interior is polished (so it wont chip) and has these amazing rings. The exterior ring (the one closest to the outside of the rock) is this deep midnight blue, the second layer is crystal though it too is tinged blue. The next ring is the core of the rock and it is this amazing sky blue crystal. Anyway it is absolutley fabulous.
I also picked up (at that same store) another rock. This one is clearly some type of quartz (the gentleman who owned the store told me what it was but I have since forgotten!) Anyway it is mounted on a wood base and the inside of it is hollowed out somewhat...a small light bulb is set in the middle illuminating this amazing rock from within. It has that shiny look of quartz but is run with small fault lines of purple and green although the overall color is more of a muted white.
Anyway those were 2 of my finds in Florida and you should have seen the airline security checking that bag :hehehehe: We stowed the stones in the carry on so that they would get chipped in the luggage. As you can imagine that bag was damn near 50 pounds in weight so of course they had to check it. Anyway I told the security guy that it was a couple of rocks and he looked at me with the most unbelieving eyes. Needless to say when he unwrapped them and saw that they were 'just rocks' he commented on how pretty they were but admitted that he had never seen a tourist go home with '50 lbs of rock' as he put it.
In any case if someone could give me some info on where to go to find out what kind of rocks/stones I have I would be ever grateful!
Til next time,
