Has Methamphetamine taken over your town?

Hi. I live in North Texas. I was wondering if it's just this area of N Texas and S Oklahoma or if Methamphetamine has become an epidemic all over the US? I have friends, family, acquaintenances - from all walks of life who have virtually disappeared into the spiral of this drug. It has simply taken over in this area. Last week a friend of ours -who we knew had been caught up in the drug world - was severely burned trying to make this drug. The last report we got from his family was that the fire had completely taken his arms from just below the elbows. He has 2 children - it's all just so sad and such a WASTE! I just don't understand what is happening around here. Everyone we know - EVERYONE - has a relative or friend that is caught in the grip of this horrible addiction. Is it everywhere?

I had intended to be here for a few hours after posting this thread, but of course the phone rings and one of the kids cars is broke down. I'll be back in a bit though.

Meth has been identified by the US as the fastest growing drug of choice. It quickly alters the brain (physically) and has the highest addiction rate and the second worst rate of recovery next to heroin - especially among Native Americans.

The government has contracted with a group called The Matrix Institute in an effort to curb this problem. They have been researching addiction for many years and have a really good recovery outpatient program. I went to them last year for alchohol after a near fatal relapse - had many years sober prior to it. Scary.

I have never used meth but have met many who have. Very tough to stop once you start.

If you know someone who is starting to use Meth, or any other mind altering drug, try to get them into some kind of awareness program. If you need help with that, PM me and I will do all that I can.

Oh cats, this is horrible!! :( :( Are people in the area trying to curb this problem or has it just hit your area so hard that everyone is still reeling from its arrival?

I'm so sorry to hear this is going on. Maybe it's just because I'm relatively new to the town I'm living in, but I've heard nothing about it in my small southern Ontario, Canada town. Perhaps we could do some sort of working for healing energy to go to your area.

Have you heard any more about your friend? How is he doing?

I was saddened recently to read in my hometown (not where I live now) newspaper (thank goodness for the internet) that a methlab was found in a house just two blocks from downtown. Now, that town has a population of just over 8,000. *sigh*
