Recently a good friend of mine confided in me. She is having very erotic dreams about the same sex and although she is straight, she finds them enjoyable and is confused about this. I told her it was perfectly normal and then remembered about this dream forum and figured I'd post and maybe get some more specific answers for her.

I read in one of my books that a same sex dream (for a heterosexual) usually meant that you desire to be with someone like you. Or it can even deal with feeling a lack of love for yourself. If in the dream she was with someone she knew, maybe she could think about the attributes that person has that she admires. It could be part of her wanting to become "one" with those characteristics. Also, plain and simply it could just be wishful-thinking. It's could just be a safe way for her mind to act out a fantasy without the risk of criticism or persecution from other people.

But what Crash had said usually is what such dreams mean, that perhaps your friend has a desperate longing to be with another who shares her same interests and desires as a person. Also, these dreams, like you said, are very normal for a heterosexual to have.

I've also heard theories that erotic dreams with those of the same sex can represent a disire to "switch roles", if you will, in that persons relationship with a partner. Maybe your friend craves a more dominate role with a male companion.

Though, not all sexual dreams translate to only sexual meanings. Perhaps your friend desires to dominate in a field of work, or is already accomplishing to do so and her dreams are merely reflecting her progress.

Or, yes, there is always the possibility of the common secret fantasy that no heterosexual likes to admit to. That one is always interesting.
