Christian, former Christian or Pagan, Jesus Christ Superstar shows the true nature of Christ (without the musical interludes and distinctly 70's music and dancing that is ;))...Andrew Lloyd Webber pulled no punches for sure...I'm watching it as I type this...he was truely a great man...it saddens me to know that two thousand years have gone by and the original message given by this innately good man have been so horribly corrupted and warped. Just my opinion, of course...

This play-then-movie (I'm assuming you were watching the movie version ;)) is really amazing. My mom actually owned the soundtrack because she loved the music so much. It was on vinyl, of course! :) (oh the days before CDs...)

The first time I saw the movie I was so impressed with the way Jesus was portrayed. In a lot of more repressive and fundamentalist strains of Christianity, Jesus is never seen in this light - if he's even seen or talked about at all!! Even today I think it's a pretty revolutionary look at the man.

Hope you enjoyed the movie!

My dad gave me his JCSS albums when I was 12 ~ I thought it was the coolest thing! I still take them out and listen to them occasionally. I agree with you Rae!

MM Rae,

I agree with you, I think the man himself would be appalled if he were alive today.

I remember when we watched this movie in my religion class. I'd never seen it before and had been told by several people that it was very good. I think that the overall class favourite was the part with I think it was Herod? Whoever the really off beat guy was. As a depiction of the stories, however it really was quite the different angle from what you tend to get otherwise. Of course you gotta love the music too :) My friend and I both tried to get our teacher to lend us her soundtrack albums but there was no talking her into it.

I love this movie! It portrays JC as the good, sweet, knowing human being I'm sure he really was, instead of the warped versions of today. If only people had really listened, i mean Really...

I completely agree...it's amazing how the general Christian populus (present company excluded, of course!!) has completely altered Jesus' true message! His teachings were about love and trust and honour and well jeez, what happened to all that?!!! Now, if we're the least bit contrary, well be-jiggers, we're going to Hell...never mind that Jesus said that his Father forgave everyone!!! And if you're not Christian, well, then golly-gee, you're going to Hell too...never mind that Jesus himself said "others will hear My voice" or something to that effect (EasternPriest, help me with the quote? They use it all the time in the LatterDay Saints commercials...just can't remember). We just hear different words than they do, doesn't mean that the meaning isn't the same right? Grrr...never mind, I'm babbling again, please forgive my verbal diarrhea...I'm going to go cool off now ;)
