My Grandma has this really cool little plant. She said the tag on it said "Sensitive Plant" and that she didn't know the actual name for it. Its not very big, though I suppose it could get a good size. its got bunches of little slender leaves together at the ends of stems, and when you touch the plant it folds up its leaves and sometimes the stems will move as well. What is this plant called? I think it is just the coolest thing.

There are 33 species of the "sensitive plant". One is the Mimosa pudica.. some common names are shameplant, touch me not, live and die, humble plant and action plant. It is a cool plant.

Is this the plant your grandmother has? They are really cool plant. I have mine in a pot that I can bring in when the weather turns cool. Although, they're considered evergreens in warmer climates, they're more like annuals here.

Sounds like a Mimosa to me too. I had one some years back - it got really tall and leggy, produced one flower, then shrivelled up and died. Either way, it was a really cute plant. I found that if the leaves get touched too much, they turn yellow and fall off - the most handled leaves on mine did.

dang...a 2 yearold post of mine getting replies...I'd totally forgotten about the plant since I don't think she had it anymore when I last visited...but then again she might have and I forgot to look. The link to the page about mimosa doesn't work, so I dunno if that's it. I'll have to google it later.

The Mimosas we have down here are big plants.....Trees actually, they have these wonderful puffy - fluffy pink flowers. And I'm allergic to them!
