I just learned something truely frightening about the area in which I live....
There is a SPAM restaurant!!!
Apparently, the main ingredient on the menu is that quintessential American processed meat product. Yikes!
This place is about 20 minutes from where I live, I don't know if I'm brave enough to actually go and try it out.
I wonder what they put in the dessert... SPAM ice cream anyone? :p

Raevyn, you haven't tried it? Wow, I thought everyone had at least had it once. Not missing much, girl. Maybe that should be a new poll.. Who has actually tried spam and who really likes it. ha ha.

Raevyn: No you're not a mutant. I find it disgusting w/o ever trying it too. It looks like ham-flavored dog food to me.

I live in Wallingford, Connecticut, the sister city of Wallingford, England. The SPAM restaurant is located in Hamden, Connecticut, which is two towns south east and about 20 minutes away.
I could bet they have pics of the Monty Python SPAM routine around the place. I just don't think I'll go there to find out.
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, my router (for the house LAN) decided to die on Tuesday so I have VERY limited net access (down to only one computer) at home until the replacement gets delivered.

Unfortunately I didn't catch the name when the newscaster said it. It was briefly mentioned on Channel 3 morning news on Tuesday in relation to something else they were talking about.
I also haven't been brave enough to do some searching around.
Where in CT do you live?

My friend has a little restaurant in OC, Maryland, and they have something way worse than Spam on the menu, Scrapple  Now there is some nasty tasting stuff.
My Dad likes Spam, he fries it up in the pan and eats it that way. He used to make us "Spamburgers" when we were kids. ewwww.

Emerald Sky I'm with you I don't mind spam. Growing up in England I had spam quite often, with eggs, spam sandwiches etc. My dad still eats spam and when he comes to visit I have to buy him a tin or two. It really isn't that bad.
Monty Python did do a whole skit on spam on one of their shows, it was hilarious. :D

SPAM is actually cured pork shoulder and ham with spices and how it got its name was the Hormel Co. held a contest to pick a name for this new "delight" and the winner was SPAM. It's been around since the 30's.

Spam is not that bad, I don't eat it much, but my husband likes it. My parents use to eat scrambled eggs and cow brains or cow tongue, now that is GROSS!!!!

Hmmm...the 30's huh? Well that explains it then!!!!!!! The world was in a massive depression during the 30's and they had to keep themselves from starving somehow. Which means...
We are not in a depression right now, so it is no longer a viable consumer good! :D
