National Aids Day is 2morrow people and i really belive everyone should check out thise site:

http://www.worldaidsday.org/ (http://www.worldaidsday.org/)

"Five people worldwide die of AIDS every minute of every day. HIV has hit every corner of the globe, infecting more than 42 million men, women and children, 5 million of them last year alone.

"Do you have time?" is the National AIDS Trust's World AIDS Day 2003 campaign to increase awareness of HIV-related stigma and discrimination. Stigma and discrimination are recognised as major factors fuelling the global HIV epidemic, creating a climate of fear and ignorance and a reluctance to confront rising infection rates.

It's a growing problem. UNAIDS has targeted HIV-related stigma and discrimination in a two-year initiative to reduce the harmful effects faced by people living with HIV. Earlier this year, NAT launched an ongoing campaign - "ARE YOU HIV PREJUDICED?" - which aims to combat HIV stigma and discrimination in the UK and beyond.

It only takes a moment to learn the real facts about HIV. Do you have time?"

also a good site:

this is something that AFFECTS US ALL. Ignore it and you may not only endanger and/or KILL yourself, but the population as well.

think about it. read about it. fight it.

Thanks, CoS. I work for a friggin pharmaceutical company that has only one drug - AN AIDS DRUG - on the market and NO ONE here has even mentioned World AIDS Day.

OOPS - talk about synchronicity...one of the marketing guys just sent a red ribbon email to the company to remind them. Right at the same time I was typing this!

Thanks Cloak. :)

I've lost several friends (I believe my last count was 20) to AIDS and it is an issue very close to my heart.

I remember when it was so demonized when it was first discovered in the 80's and how a couple of my friends lost contact with family members who were afraid to even be in the same room with them just because they had been diagnosed.

I had one friend who had cut himself at a picnic--his HIV had already changed to full blown AIDS at that time. No one would go near him for fear that his blood may accidentally go on them. It wasn't a big cut...not like it was gushing or anything, but it was a decent size. I was so appalled that no one would help him that I went over, cleaned out the wound, dressed it and all the while I had people around me looking at me with fright in their eyes. He was so greatful and so scared and the sadness in his eyes is something I will never forget.

I did get his blood on me. As a matter of fact, I had a good amount on me. While I'm thankful that I tested negative for the disease, I've never regretted helping him.

He passed 11 years ago the day before my birthday and as I look now at the tacky reindeer (his taste was SO strange!) he gave us one year, I still get a chuckle thinking of him. :)

Please, everyone...take a moment to think of those who have passed.

I for one am so greatful for the advances in medicine that have helped these folks, but for those who cannot get to the medical care that they need...it is still a very difficult, deadly and torturous disease.

That's great! (Not the ordering of the large condom. ) But the discussion pannel. And what a great way to get people to talk about it too.

Good ice breakers are wonderful for getting the discussion started and doing the games is a great example. :)
