Hello, I'm still a rookie in the ways of wicca. I come from a very strong catholic background ( if my mother found out about my interest in wicca she would never stop crying, bless her heart!)
I have a problem with there being more than one goddess and God. I mean, I'm fine with there being a goddess and a god, that part makes so much sense to me, but I feel overwhelmed with the fact that there are so many godessess and God that my magikal wokings are supposed to be aimed at. I haven't tried any spells because I want to be sincere in my belief. What I am trying to ask people is, is it possible to carry out spells and prayers while only believing in one type of goddess and god, or does it HAVE to be Venus for love, Ibis for empowerment etc.
Thanks for taking the time to read this long winded question!!

Many Wiccans do just work with "The Goddess" and "The God" and consider all other dieties to be aspects of those two. Other duotheists will pick specific names for the Lord & Lady such as Pan and Diana, and use those names all the time rather than calling on different deities depending on the type of "work" they are doing. So yes, working with just one Goddess and one God is perfectly compatible with Wiccan theology.

There are also Wiccans who dont even make any real distinction between GOd and Goddess--they just see them a poetic images used to describe the indescribable.

Even though a lot of people tend to "no no" this, I like to mix and match my gods and goddesses. I think of every goddess and god as being an aspect of The God and Goddess. And the God and Goddess are two aspects of Spirit (or The One as some prefer). I never mix them in one ritual. But one month I might be in an Artemis mood and another a Hestia mood. Then sometimes I only work with the God and Goddess. That's what's so great about Wicca! You can worship any way you want! You could even add in some Catholic Saints to your rituals. :)

I'm pretty sure God/dess won't mind, whatever names you use. I tend to think that all the names are just different sides/aspects of the One Big Thing that we call Diety. Goddess has many names, so does God. But it's still Her and still Him. I don't think the names matter unless you personally feel one way or the other about them. I don't know..I'm probably making no sense. :)
