Do your pets have nicknames? I've noticed that almost everyone that has animals have nicknames for them as well. Where did the name come from? Is there a story behind it? Please tell; I'm curious!!

LOL, we have "She Who Lives Under the Table" aka "PsychoBeech" aka Little Freyja...

So funny, I caught the end of an old movie, "Logan's Run" last night. The two people from a futuristic society found this old man, the last alive in the outside world, with about 100 cats. He was telling them how every cat has three names, their everyday name, their fancy name and the name known only to them.....

Ok two kitties ... "Poopis" (for obvious reasons - and they both get called that!) :hehehehe: and my almost, but not quite, an adult kitten -- "Full time". She's just into everything all the time without stop. Whew! http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/faintthud.gif

Although come to think of it I haven't seen her for about an hour. Wonder if she got locked in a closet somewhere. Hmmm better go check!

My cat's name is Selkie, because she's fat and grey like a seal

I call her selks or selkster sometimes, but my dad calls her Horace-Vita because he's weird, and it confuses the poor thing!

The little one, Kali, only wieghs 6.75 lbs. So she gets called "little." For obvious reasons.

Fleur (2 yr old cat) gets Fleurdle-durdle, and The Evil Miss Deeds.

My cats Robert and Steven have gone through quite a few nicknames. These days they are usually just Bug and Freaky. Robert often gives us a "Zorak" look where he kinda glowers at us. So he is Bug. Steven freaks out at the littlest thing. I mean, open the door to let him out and if Bug is coming in at the same time, Freaky will *jump*. The vet says this comes from him spending alot of time outside and being aware of predators and such.

Robert has been (and sometimes still is) called: Bug, Mister Bug, Wobbert, Monkey, Mister Monkey, Your Royal Monkeyness, Butterball..
Steven has been (and sometimes still is) called: Freaky, Mister Freaky, Freakycat, Teevor, Teven, Mister Cat..

We also have a Bearded Dragon named Rutherford the Brave, who is more commonly called Little Guy. A nickname from before Hubby and I got together, he used to be about the size of Hubby's finger. :) And he holds his own with the cats when we let him out- they try to play with him and he puffs up his "beard" and they move a few feet away and just watch him.. They don't really know what to make of him...

Velvet gets called "Velveteen", "Velour", "Velveeta", for obvious reasons...

...my favorite nickname for him is "Ticky". If any of you read "Socks" by Beverly Cleary as a child, you know of what I speak. :D

I also call him "Goober", but that's more when he's hiding behind the couch and won't come out...

It seems like all of my pets have had nicknames at one point or another...

My first cat's "official" name was Alice :wtf:; when we got her she was re-named Mittens. As she got older, though, I started calling her Bones (because she was thin) and the name just stuck.

Bobalou - Orange Guy, Buddy, and Little Tiger.

Jigs - Gigalo, Puff Ball, and Yiggers.

Samela - Pretty Kitty, Little Flirt and Samuela.

And all of my birds get called "Feathers" from time to time. :)

Okay,but you're going to laugh.

One of my cats is named Abby.

There is a video game on the homestarrunner website that has a character named Trogdor (a dragon) who "burninates" the peasants' thatched roof cottages. SO... he is Trogdor the Burninator.

Abby purrs INCREDIBLY loudly... so much so that she can be heard in other rooms.

She is Ab-dor the Purrinator.

My dog Toby sometimes needs to take medicine to calm her down when it's really windy or stormy so I call her druggie. She looks so funny because she can't walk straight. My mom hates it, but she does come when I call her that! My mom calls her Tweety,Pookie and Queen

my cat is called Lady, because it suits her personality. It's great when we go to the vets and they announce Lady as Lady Clapton. She gets called numerous names depending on our mood. She's been calle fleabag, flea, sweetie, baby, brown furry paw of death (she's a tortoiseshell x tabby), and sweetie pie. she gets darling too, and grumblebum (she's not the friendliest of cats...). So none of them are escpecially unique, they suit her, just the same.

okay its not that cute/funny/or weird...but...

a few years ago when my niece was prolly 12 or 13....every time she would see something cute (hamsters, gerbils, kitties, babies, puppies) she would call them neenies...

so

our cats have nicknames:

cindy is cindy regularly, but when we are loving on her, she is cindy-neenie (sometimes progressed to cindy-neenah)

bunny is bunny regularly, but again, when being loved on, she is bunny-neenie (sometimes progressed to bunny-neenah, buneenie, even buneenah)

okay it IS weird

Our black house cat is rufus (after the 13th apostle in dogma), he is brat, baby, or prince- on the rare occasions he is good :)

Well...yeah. :D

My Turkish angora kitten is named Merlin, but I often call him Mer, partly because it's short for Merlin, and partly because that's how he talks to me. When he approaches and wants to get my attention, he'll make a noise that sounds like, "Merrrrrr!" I also call him 'ittle kitty because, um, he's little...and he's a kitty.

Our Maine coon, Pony, has been dubbed Psychokitty Furbutt. Our youngest, who was 4 at the time, gave her the name. ;)

Ramona gets called 'Miss Ramona' or 'Mona-Mona', or I sing the first line of 'Sweet Little Ramona' at her.
Bubba the WonderCat gets called 'Bubs', 'Bubbalicious', or 'Hubs-a-Bubba' (because he's as close to a having a husband/'hubs' as I intend to get). I also call him "Boyftend" for the same reason.
I call them both the usual 'sweetheart', 'baby', etc. & 'Cat!' when I'm mad at them.

My lab's nickname is "dino" as in dinosaur. We call her that because as a little pup she wobbled when she walked so we called her "wobble-a*s",well, she grew and grew and grew  (the vet said she would weigh 55lbs tops, she weighs 120lbs!) So we call her dino because she has the butt of a brontosaur!!
My great dane is called blockhead because his head is shaped like a block and he is dense!

If you need names for the turtles, why not name them after the ninja turtles? Leonardo, Michelangelo, etc. :)
because 1) there are two boy turtles and two girl turtles and 2) cause i never liked the ninja turtles much... :bigredblu

edited to add: i did come up with two names so far... one for the smaller male: lestat, because he has little white marks on his bottom jaw that look like little vampy teeth
and the large female i might call morla (the turtle in the never-ending story)
so i've got one small female left, and one larger male, he is a grumpy character that sleeps alot and hisses at you when you pick him up. he also has what looks like the face of the devil :smoke: on his um... anus? genital pouch? thingy. :bigredblu
 if you want i'll post some pics.

The cats:
Gilligan is called Gillers, Gil-boy, Gilly, Daren (for some reason my sister used to think he looked like Deven Sowa, so he became known as Daren Sowa, Deven's lost reincarnated twin brother. ), Da Boy... Tons more...Flobberworm cat is pretty popular.
Baby...is actually officially named Snickelfritz, but no one ever calls her that. She's sometimes, Bambina, Da Girl, Catwoman, Attention Whore...Lots more...
Mystic: Mizz, Black Cat, Pig, Sphenia Baba (not sure how to spell that, it means 'pig woman' in Polish), and Weird Cat, among others...

I have German Shepherds. Big dogs. And they're all purebred (I have three, my mom has one.) They have long names:

Emma Ann von Rossman
Gustave Blitzer von Stonehill
Greta Ahlen von Lacey
and my mother's dog
Handsome Hauns Down (say it out loud)

Emma is Emma, Gustave is Gus and Greta is Greta, but I call her Toodle-butt. Don't know why, but she's my special spoiled puppy. Handsome is Hauns.

Greta and Hauns are the pups of Emma and Gus. Greta was the fifth of the litter, born breech, not breathing and no heartbeat. I brought her back and now she is permanently attached to me, if I leave her site she freaks out.

When Bingo (a sheltie AKA shetland sheepdog) was a puppy, I affectionately called him "Poopie"...mainly during potty training, but also because there are quite a few comedic stories from his puppyhood involving, well, "accidents" of that nature.

Currently, I often call him "Baby" or, even more often, my "Hairy Brother". Was actually a nickname my mom started with my first (and only other dog), Bingo I, only she was my "Hairy Sister". But goodness, could she be any more on the bat? Just as I considered Bingo I to be my sister (and still do), I consider Bingo II to be my brother. They're my family! ^__^

I named my kitten Myung after an anime character that I really liked, that was a singer. My cat is a siamese, so since they "talk" more then most cats, I thought it fitting. :) It's pronounced Mewn.

My husband and I often get into silly games where we pick a word and try and name all the words that have that word in it. (IE Moose: Moose-take, Moose-tache, Moose-understood, etc...) Well, we did that with Myung, but there weren't many, so her nicknames are Myung-icipality, Myung-chkin, Myung-ich.

Rag-Tag-Hag or Old Hag

Once your Persian Felines hit 12 they gracefully fall into that name. But better suits them at 16.

Of course the whole of her name is disturbing as well anyway:

Mirinda-Mehitobel-Beast

My mother still implies the fact that she feels 12 year olds should not be allowed to name their pets.......everytime she sees the green eyed Old Hag.

This is so wierd, I was going to start a thread like this today!!

My beagle, Norman is Thunderbutt, Bodacious (because he is a little portly and not very gracefull), Lunchbox, sometimes Normina - because if I happen to leave any clothes laying around, Norm likes to try them on. In the pic below he is wearing my bra, and I SWEAR that he did that himself. I came home from work and he had my bra on. I used to call him Beaner untill my cousin (who is half Mexican) informed me that that is a derogatory term for Mexicans, so now he is just Bean.

Dorothy, my shepherd/chow, is My Sweet Baboo, Booger, D-Dog, and sometimes RoRo.

My cat's name is Foggy ( not froggy,but Foggy..lol)
But her nicknames (according to how her behavior is at the time) are Furbrat, kanga( she used to hop along on her hind legs ONLY, when she was a kitten. She'd do this just spontaneously..not because we were dangling something for her...but would be tearing around and all of a sudden hop on her hind legs like a kangaroo)
Anyway, her other names are Switch, CAT DAMNU, cataliscious, and Hellcat..and *%$#@*& when she's being extra naughty..lol

We have a 10 month old Long Legged Walker puppy named Cherokee, whom I love dearly, but if she is not the dumbest animal the Gods ever put on this earth, she is a close second. We call her "Chero Wokee." Believe me, if you met her, you'd know why! :geez:

I also have a Siamese named Mei-Ling, nicknamed "Diva Face" 'cause she is!

She is living proof that:

Lots of cats here! I usually call my cat using her family name, not first name, 'cause the first name is kinda long. The full name is Adeliina Fackel, but I also call her Fjordin, Chicken, Sweetheart or whatever comes to mind...

Well, the keeshound/shepard mix is Sam...aka Saminator, Sam the Man or Sam I Am. I also call him 'baby boy' a lot. He really likes that one!

Our two kitties:
P. I'm serious, her name is P. She gets called Princess, Peanut, Peanutty Goodness, the Diva, Little Lady (she's only 3 lbs full grown) and occasionally Pumpkin.

Salem gets stuck with Lum or Lum-a-dum. Most often its a very exaspertaed "Sa-lem!"

This is a nifty thread.

Ok lemme see.

Poo is a nickname for our black cat. His original name was Goku (after the show Dragon Ball Z) but when he was a kitten he couldn't for the life of him, go to the bathroom in the litterbox. So we nicknamed him poo.

Chunky's real name is Socks. But as you can probably guess she is a bit on the bigger side. So we nicknamed her Chunky. Never-the-less, she is a butter ball of joy :)

Sunkist is orange...so we named him after the orange company

Naja = YaYa
Keiko = KiKi

They got those names because my friends little boy (when he was 2) could not say Naja and Keiko. So he called them YaYa and KiKi... they just stuck. :)

Both of them are cats btw. Naja (girl) and Keiko (boy) are brother and sister. I actually got them because of that same two year old. We went looking for kittens for my friend. He saw them and he would NOT let anyone near them. They were MY cats and MY cats only. So I couldn't refuse.. I adopted them. :)

Blessings,
Wyn

LOL, all sixteen cats have several variations on their names, and two litter mates, one of whom is a genetic dwarf and the other of whom has terminal gas (!), instead of being called Helter and Skelter, are known as Tiny and The Poofter. Blur is Burr-Burr, Mr. Paws is PawsPaws or even PwasPwas, LOL, and it goes on and on...

My kitty Basette has the nickname of "Crumb-Sucker" because of her dog-like tendencies to suck up anything that falls on the kitchen floor during meal preparation.

Ambush, aka Bush, is also called the White Wonderbread Cat, or Marshmallow (see picture for explanation). White Wonderbread because every bit of common sense has been bleached out. Marshmallow comes from the cat's tendency to sleep on his back like a dog. He also plays fetch, likes his belly scratched, and follows me from room to room, preferably trying to trip me.

Kiesha is called the 'piss-pot' because of her bad habits.

Blessings,

Ceffyl

I have two cats (I have a personal rule that the cats should not outnumber the people in my house!):

Khayman is also known as Fatcat or Badness, for obvious reasons.

Mina is Pretty Girl, since she is so dainty (for example, she drinks water by dipping her paw in the water and putting it up to her mouth ... it's SO cute!).

WE have funny things that we always say to the dog.. and dog jokes.

He's a character.

He's referred to as the "small biting dog" because he grabs onto your pant leg when your walking around. or will jump way up in the air trying to get your attention and "grap" on the back of your shirt or butt

We say "sit UBU sit, good dog" all the time.. you thirty somethings should know what I mean by that

And he's also called "big dog".. because he's a short short dog with the bark of a HUGE dog. He's a big dog trapped in a small dogs body.

Oh and his actual name is Arrow .. because he all pointy everywhere. pointy nose , ears everything. even arrow shaped markings on his body. and he reminded us of the dog from "Oblio" named Arrow.. Ringo Starr .. the "me and my arrow" song..

My cat is called Figaro (My brother - who is 25, 10 years older than me - named her because she looks like the cat from the cartoon movie of Pinnochio). Mum used to call her Fliss, she never could remember her name. "Food" usually works best because Figaro will listen when you say food.

I call her 'Hammy the Cat-Dog' because she stuffs her face like a hamster, is a cat, and yet acts like a dog, she growls back at you if you speak to her, tell her to roll over and she will, but she's terribly lazy and never gets likes leaving the house or running around and just sits on her bum and eats, so "Fat Cat" is mum's choice of nickname for her. Generally just Figgy for short. :)

I also have a snake called Indie (because I'm into Indie music and clothing, etc) and my friend Kim calls her Oswald though I'm not sure why.... :hehehehe:

Well; since we have one cat who is yet to be named (he was just adopted on Tuesday) I can't make this completely accurate yet!

Cats:
Rhiannon: Miss Rhiannon or Baby Girl (she was my first cat ever)
Kermit (named by my nephew): Spaz (he is a spaztic cat)
Babies: Turtle, Keebler and Miss Kitty
Then we have our new unnamed cat...

~My sister's cat is named Pumpkin. From that, we have derived Punky, Pinky, Stinky, Tinker, and Rodent.
~My own cat is named Sprite. From that we have derived Spritel, Spritey, Spriteypoose, Spritel-Itel-Itel, Bright, Brighty, and Spritezy.
~Our cat Pennie is also called Penzie, Penner, Penniepoo, Dolphin, and Squeaker.
~Our cat Lucy only has two nicknames...Lucifee, and Lushy.
~Our cat Baby is occasionally called Bowling Ball or, in my sister's world, Fatness.

We have one for the 5lb Teacup Yorkie, Sully: HAIRBALL...he will roll and roll around on whatever he's sitting/laying on, and when he's finished, he'll get up, and he'll look like a big hairball! He's got lots of hair, and he's so tiny, that it also fit there, as well.

Oh, and the reason he is called Sully? Two reasons, and they go together: Sully Erna(since he's tiny and furry at times, and the Yorkie belongs to me)...plus, my SO gifted him to me, the same day I first met Sully Erna, and I had yet to name the lil doggie anything! So, since that meeting with Mr. Erna was very pleasant and sweet, I had my name for my lil doggie--Sully(both very tiny, both furry and both very sweet!) _catroll_

My cat Gilbert recently acquired the nickname Mr. Gilberto for no apparent reason. He's originally named after Gilbert Goddfried because he's so loud and obnoxious.

My cat Whitey was named by his original owner, a prostitute, who wanted to make her pimp, a black man, angry. I met Whitey in a place where they called him Fat-Ass. Now he's mine and he'll answer to Whitey or Fat-Ass. But he has acquired the nickname Mighty Whitey because he's afraid of everything and I'm trying to boost his self-esteem. He's a big fat cat, but he has the tiniest most timid squeak of a meow which I call his Mighty Roar.

Mimi is my Little Princess and Baby Kitty (even though she's the oldest, she's still my baby), but she is also called Mimi with a heavy French accent. She told me her name shortly after I got her. She was so tiny that when she tried to meow it only came out as a little "mee" sound.

I have three cats and a dog.
Pepper doesn't have nickname.
Spackle (very pastel calico) gets called "Fat Cat" cuz she weighs like 20 lbs...and we've tried the dieting thing, but she just refuses to lose weight. And also "scardy Cat" cuz she's just so skittish around my sister and any new people in the house. She won't answer to Spackle anymore, though.
Blu (for her eyes) has been dubbed "Kitten" cuz she's the youngest and that's how we refered to her for the first two or three weeks we had her before we actually gave her a name. If you try to call her by her actual name, she'll ignore you, thinking you're talking about/to someone else.
And Kandy, the dalmation, has been called "Bowling Ball Head" because of the 3 spots on the top of her head that look just like the holes of a bowling ball. She also still answers to "Puppy" although she's almost 11 (human) yrs old. Mostly she just goes by Kandy, though.

Well my current cat's (step-father's cat really) nickname is 'Naughty' because she likes to use the entire house, particularly beds if possible, as a toilet, and nothing has managed to stop her (she's a good 8 years old or so, so it's not like she hasn't been told off for it enough times).

My last cat though was called Misty but most of the time I called her Tassput. That was painstakingly developed from the words 'pussy cat', bit by bit. I seem to recall it went: Pussy cat -> Puss Cat -> Puss Tat -> Tassput.

I call my animals names the way a parent calls thier children names.. they have thier real names: Dimitri, Tamis Nymphodora (Nymphodora being from Harry Potter and the first name i thought of when i thought of giveing her a middle name ;) ), and John Brutus (this comes from the diffrences between my sister [His real owner] and my mum and i [who pay the vet bills])

as for nicknames, Dimitri doesnt really have one, Tamis is Missy, or Girly Girl, for no particular reason, and Brutus is Num-nuts... because hes stupid. :)

My last cat though was called Misty but most of the time I called her Tassput. That was painstakingly developed from the words 'pussy cat', bit by bit. I seem to recall it went: Pussy cat -> Puss Cat -> Puss Tat -> Tassput.

thats logical right up until the end... lol

dyslexia prehaps? lol j/k i say that cause if sounds like someting my dyslexic self would do

We call our boy lizard "brat". And we call the girl lizard "other brat". The third lizard, the illusionary one who lives in the mirror, is called "other lizard". The boy brat sure hates that other lizard!

My cat Orca is nicknamed Bad Cat because I said that to her A LOT while she was growing up and Monkey because she was constantly performing amazing physical feats to find new ways of getting into trouble.

My cat Tess is nicknamed Bunny Bum (her bum looks just like a bunny's) which is short for Tess Bum, Countess of All That is Bunny.

Everyone else calls Angel "Zoolander" because she makes pretty little model faces all day long...she can't help it, she's just pretty and white....all the vets always coo over her. Have they tried to bathe her? I think not, or else they would call her what I do sometimes, "Lil Hellion"
I was going to name her Angelina after Angeline Jolie, but she's too Nermil for that name.
I call her "Fluffy Bunny" because she's so perky, wants to say HI! Love ME!
She's the kind of familiar that would run and hide. She will lick her bum during a ritual. But I love her because she has attitude and a burning temper. She is vain, egotistical and won't hesitate to glare at a BAD PERSON, or poo on their belongings if they have hurt me (hahahha to you JPM)
She's my lady.

Let's see, there's Catlet, for any of the cats. One is Marcel--he becomes MarSillius (as in, silly), or Marcel Mouser...or, he is the "Little Grey Shadow, as he follows me everywhere> The other cat thinks his name should be Interloper, or Nemesis.

Before he was neutered, dad made him think his name was "FuzzNuts"

My friend's ex boyfriend made their cat Daisy think it's name was Titty.

Had a cat named Orabell, she became orabelly, or smelly belly, as she didn't clean herself well sometimes.

Spooky becomes Pooky, or Pookerduke, or Mr. Spook.

We had a cat that sprayed around the house. Her nickname became Queen Pee, or we said that she was having a Pissy Fit...

One as nicknamed PlumpLump.

When they do something wrong, but in a cute way, we laughingly call them WickedKitty.

When they look like thy are the kings or queens of thier domains, they become MasterCat.
Or: Mr or Mizz PurrFect.

They probably don't know what their names are anymore, they have so many....

I named my cat Melora, but had to change it to Honey because I used her nickname more often than her real name. I call her Sheba every once and a while too.

Konnichi Wa to All:

The Official Name of my Feline Familiar is Twowhitesocks as she has Two White Rears Paws, but she only responds to me when I say "Here Kitty!", so the unofficial name for TwoWhiteSocks is "Here Kitty!".

I have 2 dogs, Sparkle who is a Jack Russel Terrier and who's nick name is "sparkle, her royal highness queen of the universe, high priestess of bark bark" and also "satan's little toe" ( and various shortened versions of that. If you have ever known a JRT, then you know why the nickname)
Then there is Pixie, my boston terrier and her nick names are "snorty face" and "princess kissy face'' ( and if you follow Brian Froud at all, then you know that pixies say there can never be too many kisses!) :spinnysmi

I also beleive that most cats are born with more than one name. Maybe it sounds crazy, but I think cats tell you their names when they are small...

My cats name is Skye, but I call her Yiddle (which is like baby talk for Little) or Yiddle Bebe (because my fiance calls me Bebe and the kitty is the little version of me lol).... and I too believe that cats are born with more than one name. Every cat I've owned had more than one name. And Skye told me her name when she first arrived into our home, that's how she got her name.
