I am a teen Pagan, a young one at that. 14. My views on teen pagans... Well their mixed... My friend Sam and I are teen pagans and from knowing her I felt that all pagan teens are like her and me. Serious. But there are many of those who are not, and it angers me because it gives people like Us bad names. Everytime, now, that I meet a new Wiccan or Pagan I ask them. What got you interested, and if they reply "The Craft" I have this big lecture put up in my head for them. But if they reply. I have always been interested so I started reading books and researching and realized it is the one for me. Then I believe them. Unfortunately, there are those who ruin it for others, and there are those. Like most of the teens on this board who are serious and deserve a big pat on the back, for actually studying what they are getting themselves into. I hope this doesn't offend anybody. It is just my little views!8O

Hey, im 14 2!!!
I think just about the same about teen pagans as you, i spose, my best friend's also a witch. In our form, we've had at least 7 or 8 people claiming to be wiccans, but only me and my friend have *really* followed it up. cant write much more, am being yelled at to get off the net lol :D

Give a cheer for the teen Pagans! I'm 16 at the moment and will be 17 in October. And even though the Craft did get me interested in witchcraft, my beginning studies were definetly not oriented it. I looked up many sites on the Internet, bought dozens of books (20 to be precise) and I'm still studying. All you guys on MW are really helping me out with tough questions that can't be found in books. Thanks alot and Blessed Be! ;)

P.S. By the way, does anyone know of a magazine specifically for Teen Wiccans/Pagans?

July 8th, 2001, 09:18 AM
Ask that question in the book forum there should be someone in there that knows. :) By the way there were posers long before "The Craft" came out. :) They're everywhere they're everywhere. At least they aren't here! Pagan teens are great by the way! They are the future.

Aside from the obvious discrepancies between their form of witchcraft and Wicca, The Craft really isn't a bad movie...I enjoyed it for one reason...it taught that good will always triumph, because evil is DUMB (a different take on another movie: Spaceballs...lol!). They did do a fairly accurate Beltane ritual (except for the part where Fairuza gets struck by 'Manon's' lightening)...like I said, most of that is sheer drivel, but I won't bite yer head off if that's what got you interested in Wicca...after all, you have to start somewhere right? Just as long as you go into it all knowing that The Craft is pure Hollywood and nothing like the real thing! Ever see Practical Magic? I think that movie portrays witchcraft MUCH better :) AND I think Sandra Bullock makes a fantastic witch (so does Stockard Channing for that matter...sigh...my hero!!)!!!

yeh, i've seen practical magic, it wz a really good film! I thought at the end it was a bit christianised tho ('remember, if you're a witch, always throw salt over your shoulder'....isn't that cos that's where satan sat or something???)
ANYway, i didnt get into wicca becausde of the craft, i saw it about a year before i became interested in wicca, but i'm just sooooooooooooooo dim i didnt connect the two until a few months ago, duh

..actually, salt over the shoulder predates christianity, and comes from asian cultures originally

I'm 16, too. 17 come November. Yay for the (real)Teenage Pagan! We are the future (I'm not sure if that's encouraging or alarming ...j/k)
Side note...
I don't even remember what got me interested, I just...was. I love practical magic! Great movie. I saw the craft years before I got serious about this and thought is was a cool movie, but incredibly hokey at times. I never took it for real...thank God.

Even though it's everything wiccans/pagans are against, I like the movie Hocus Pocus. :) (grins sheepishly) Sarah and Mary are definetly the coolest! I wish I could sniff out kids! It'd really come in handy when I babysit!

I love Hocus Pocus too! It's the cutest movie, and the end with Sarah Jessica Parker singing is actually still kinda creepy to me. Practical Magic rules as well.

One of the things I like about this type of forum is that you're not judging a person by their age, sex, or appearance. I have admired many of the participants in various threads for their insights & knowledge & their readiness to share. I think it's wonderful that we have such a range of people here...from teens to grandparents. Age may give you experience but it doesn't always give you wisdom.

Does anyone watch Charmed? I just started watching it the past two weeks and it's not bad. The one thing that was unbelievable was when they got sent back to Pilgrim times and didn't know what All Hallows Eve was... Come on, everyone knows that...
Anyways, I'm 22 so it wasn't too long ago that I was a teen. Good for you all!

Hi! I'm 17 and almost 18 and have only been studying paganism for about 6 months. I didn't find paganism, it just sort of found me. Actually, I ran into it...literally! LOL. I backed into a bookshelf at Barnes and Nobles and knocked a pagan book off the shelf. That's when it all started! lol. I'm glad to see that the teens in here are mature about it too. I've been in a couple of teen pagan boards and you can tell that they have no idea what they are talking about. Well, I'm soooooo glad to be here! Talk to you guys later.

i got started on studying pagan, wicca etc about 3 months ago and i fell into it by sufing the web!!!!

i was looking up witches costumes for my youger cousin and i wanted something like the old pagans used to wear as this has always been my idea of a "real" witch!!

i have always been into candles and incense, books on celtics and what not so it has been fun to see that pagans, wiccans etc is all i have always belived in roled into one word!!!

good on ya to all the teen witches and good luck on your paths!!

(i have The Craft, Practical magic, hocus pocus and some episodes of charmed on tape.... but that not why i started to study.....but i love them all :) )

I was a teenage pagan. Now there's a title for a movie!

I started looking into pagan things at 16. I was going through my Catholic confirmation. The questions that the clergy asked during that proccess got me thinking. They asked if I thought Catholocism was right for me. I had to say I wasn't sure, and to my surprize the priest was very understanding of that.

I only saw "the craft" recently, and it was pretty good. Definitely Hollywood, but they did thier homework.

I'm not specificly wiccan, or anything else for that matter. I take what I can use from all faiths, philosophies, people and places. And I understand firsthand that teenagers are the future of all religions and cultures. And I would encourege all of the young people on this board to keep questioning what you're told. The most important aspect of paganism in all its forms is its ability to grow. Try new things, expand your mind and your practice, you can only move forward from where you are.

17 to be exact. I am pagan with wiccan leanings :p. I have been studying paganism and wicca for about three years now (though I have always been a pagan, I just didnt know what a pagan was...). I dont know how i got started, it was early on (I have only been studying it recently I have been practicing some form of paganism from before i can remember) I think it might have been a bonfire thing that I enjoyed so much, I have always been weird around the time of the festivals. I have always loved mythology, when I was learning to read it was on greek mythology instead of jake and jane. My poetry has always been pagan-ish, I learned very early on that I was to keep that to myself :).
I dont care for the movies, however I can pick out one song in all of them that i absolutely love...
That old black magic...
I put a spell on you (???)...
that charmed opening song dont remember the title, all cool...

I'm a teen pagan, somewhat against my parents will and I still believe that I am doing the right thing. We do have the freedom of religion and all we are trying to do is believe in what we want to.

Yes I may have changed partly because of the magick, but there was something else too. I have been thinking a lot lately and there were other things involved.

I'm 19, and I have to say my wiccan experience is SOOO much different than what seems to be listed.

I am one of seemingly few, if any wiccan teens on this board to have been RAISED in the path of wicca\witchcraft.

Is this true? I know I am not the only one in the world, I've attended one too many pagan events to know better than that..
But am I the only one on the board?

A friend of mine from my old grove wanted me to write a book on growing up wiccan\pagan. She's a professer at rutgers. She said if I wrote it she could get it published.. I personally, am a bit stuck on the issue for many reasons. The first being where to start it, the second, where to end it. There's really a lot to say.

*le sigh*

I'd love to read a book like that. A little like Phyllis Curott's Book of Shadows, you know, personal experience, rather than another bloody how to book.

BTW, I'm 15, nearly 16 (in November, I'm a Scorpio, practically on the cusp of Sagittarius) and have been interested in mythology since I was about 8 or 9 (anyone else learn about myths in their first year of History... Cuchulainn, the Children of Lir, etc.) and thanks to my auntie, got my hands on more and more detailed info. Then I finally found out that Witches were real, and that they believed in the old Gods and Goddesses that I'd read about for so long. And now here I am.

I geuss I'm a pagan teen, I'm 18 I just sort of stopped thinking about being a teen when I was 16 since that was when I had my son. But I have nothing against pagan teens of any kind whither they be like the great teens at mw or any teen who even use it simply because it makes them feel cool because they will outgrow it and at least it helps them feel as if there are a part if something even if it takes them awhile to realize how fake it is. Besides those kind rarely do the research so they can do little real harm anyway.

But that is just my opinion, and to all usreal teen pagans yeah! I agree we are the future.

I'm 16 too, but I don't know what exactly I am. I'm more of an eclectic Pagan really. I always was a wierd kid. I went through a phase where I wanted to paint the walls of my bedroom black and my entire wardrobe consisted of just that: Black. I thought I could talk to animals, or understand them more than the average person, and I absolutely loved studying Greek and Roman mythology in elementary school. So, I don't know what exactly it is that got me interested. My family is pretty christian, and i'm not "out of the broom closet" so to speak. OH man, my first driving test was SOOO BAD!!!

Lets see now. Well I decided to try and take my test early, before I was ready, because a new set of rules were coming into effect regarding drivers licenses (I didnt want to have to drive around with a big green letter "N" in the back window of my car for 2 years), and well, lets just say I failed horribly. Your allowed to get 45 demerits, and well, I got 115. So yeah, I failed. But I got it the next time.

Good Luck..

Not a teen - by 'way too many years. How do I feel about them? They're people. I take each one as he/she comes. They're all different, just as adults are all different - they just don't have much of an experience base. Some are very mature and likable, some aren't. But there are adults like that, too.

First I'd like to state that is one heck of a generalization. Though I can completely understand where it comes from, and agree for the most part. However I must say I disagree in that I do not believe that the young have less of an experience base, but rather a different experience base. I also have to disagree because there are also many youn who, by the admission of other adults, are said to have more experiences and wisdom beyond that of many thirty + year olds.

How do I feel about wiccan teens, and teens in general.
Well I am ending my Teen years on Jan 1st. My 20th birthday. I've got quite a bit of experience in some ways, and little in others. I'm one of the last people to say I know everything.. then again, I don't believe it's possible to know everything.. But i could be wrong *winks*

I'm entering my true TWEEN years. While I consider myself a woman, much of society will take one look at me and say "still a girl" or "full fledged woman". I don't really see myself as either. I can't much do anything about a generally young face, or mature curves. I've noticed that how people see me physically often determines how they talk to me, how much of my opinions, my experiences etc. they will listen to, agree with, and repect. I cannot change the eyes of the beholders, though i can attempt to persuade them to re-evalute their views.

Experience quite often does not seem to be the determining factor on whether or not someone will talk to you like you are an equal, an underling, or a superior. Rather it seems that ones ability to give off the proper air, to communicate just right makes the decsions. Online it is much easier for a teen, or a tween to be taken seriously, because the first thing one sees is not a face or a body type, height or visage, but personality, thoughts and wording.

It's more challenging for an adult and a teen to communicate in person because it is REALLY dependant on how the one sees the other, and how able and open they are to communicating, learning, sharing, hear and comprehend.

It seems that a simple understanding that respect must be earned, and cannot be demanded could save a lot of heartache between the ages. Not forgetting that inexperience, and experience have their affects on how people see things. Neither is better than the other, for both can have positive and negative aspects.

Children, teens, from birth have to fight and grapple with the ever dominant adult world reminding them that they know little to nothing as they have experienced little to nothing. Then again, a child, teen, experiences something, and it's effects are totally downplayed with don't worry, be happy, trust me you haven't seen the worst of the world yet, philosophys. It is often hard by the teen years to be confident, and not cocky; right but not self rightous; and open yet not defensive or offensive. These abilitys, rather than experience, can make or break a discussion with someone a different age.

Adults and the young who are forced to grow up fast, sometimes feel a twinge of anger, and jealousy when confronted with the naivety and the inexperience of the young and young at heart. A bitterness from a sense of loss, the desire to be back at that point in time when life was more simple, where there were fewer shades of gray and structured lines between black and white.
Inexperience in and of itself IS an experience. And it is one you can never go back to, but you can remember in your judgement as an adult.

It's my belief that it is these things that cause the butting of heads between generations, within, and without of the craft.
It is also my belief that more experience is necessary for all parties involved, all the time, forever, in order to minimize the gap currently existing. I don't necessarily believe it's curable entirely... that is however a nice dream, and certainly a reality worth striving for.

Psst, I think that's why Raevyn mentioned it was a "different take" on the movie...

I know this is an old thread, it needs renewing.
I'm a 19 year old, something or other, still trying to figure it out. I'm still hiding in the broom closet though, and in that time, I've managed to drag in another one. I'm gonna ramble, but it applies here. I'm still trying to help her figure out if she's pagan or not, but she's hardly online. Back to me (leos rule!) From about age 1-4 I was "raised" baptist, mainly because half my grandfather's family worked at the baptist church, and it was nearby. 5-7, no religion, my mother told me some stuff about heaven and hell, but that was it. Oh, and if it matters, when I was 5, there was a little bridge thing in our backyard, I fell off, and busted my head. I have little to no memory before age 5. I've pretty much always known that I wasn't a baptist, I had far too many different views. The thing that started my online search for paganism/wicca was the fact that I can, on a rare occasion see and hear ghosts, or ghost like, uh things. When I was a kid, 7-11 ish, I think, my grandparents thought I had some sort of attention defecit disorder, and put me on ritalin. I emphasis thought. If anyone has seen the South Park episode where all the kids are put on ritalin, I was Cartman, but only at night. I think I was taken off of ritalin around the tenth time I told my grandmother there were watches flying across room, or perhaps it was the triceratops outside my window... Anyways, before I begin a novella, I thought it was the ritalin, but last year, I saw a ghost. Long lasting effects? Nope, because my friend mentally saw it when she came over. And thus, continued my search... blahblahblah...

I don’t seem to fit in with most Pagan teens. It’s funny as most Pagan teens tend to think of themselves as the accepting ones, but we tend to bug the hell outta each other. At least the ones around here.
It’s kinda lonely being the only Pagan in my group of friends, but it’s that or hanging out with people I can’t stand.
