Hi everyone. I just found this forum while surfing the net to try and take my mind off what just happened tonight. I

know you don't know me so I hope you don't mind me laying this all on you right now but I have no one else to talk

to. I just had the worst night of my life, earlier I was picked up by a good friend of mine and went to their house

for a couple of hours or so, when he dropped me back off I noticed that my car was stolen! I couldn't believe it! At

first I thought that he had set it up just to mess with me, you know.....I thought maybe that's why he offered

picked me up instead of me just driving there, but that wasn't the case. I went upstairs to my apartment to call the

cops and that's when I walked in and seen my place.....totally trashed! I couldn't believe my eyes! This is the kind

of thing you hear about but never in a million years think could happen to you. My heart just about stopped when I

opened the door and seen that, so they not only stole my car but broke into my house! The cops said they think it

was a inside job (a friend) because they not only knew which car belonged to which apartment, but also in the

apartment they only destroyed two rooms looking for things, which I found out after checking was my stash of money I

keep hidden in a small chest in the den. I believe the cops when they say it was a friend or someone I knew because

whoever it was knew what they were looking for. Myself, I think they only tore apart the rooms to make it look not

so obvious that they knew me, but they messed up when they only hit two rooms and didn't take stuff like the

computer which was in one of them. But in any case.... I just don't know what to do now, that stash was all the

money I had that I just pulled out of the bank today so I can pay my bills. I am totally screwed because I have my

rent due in two days, my utility bill due in three days, my phone bill due tommorrow, and car insurance due in four

days for a car that still isn't found yet! And thanks to whoever it was, i'm now going to be evicted by my landlord

because I don't have any money for him, what makes it worse with him is that I only moved in here last month so he

doesn't know me well enough to realize that I am a good person and would never intentionally mess him over on the

rent which really doesn't matter at this point because even if he allowed me to stay because of the circumstances I

am going to have no power in a couple of days when I don't pay the bill because I have no money! Now, i'm in a catch

22 with my job and car, if I don't pay my insurance they will cancel it and I won't be able to drive to work, but in

reverse, if I don't go to work then I won't make the money to pay my insurance. Thanks to this break in, I am now at

my wits end realizing that I am about to loose everything due to this incident, I know nobody here knows me and it

kills me pride wise to even think about doing something like this but......I am asking for your help with this, if

you can help me out with any kind of donations I would appreciate it, even if it's only a dollar or two through

paypal, at this point every cent helps. Right now it's hard for me not to look at the cruel and evil side of man

because of what just happened, but I hope there is some goodness within some people here. If you find it within your

heart to help a stranger and are able to, use the email address below to send anything you can with paypal.

Even if you can't help me then I thank you for taking the time to read this long post.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the trouble you've been having, especially over the holidays. It's a shame to think that "friends" of yours might actually be responsible for this.

I don't think you need to worry as much as you are though.

I'm a property manager and I can tell you that it takes more than a day before you're evicted from your apartment. First you have to be late with your rent (there's usually a grace period) so that gives you a little time. Then the landlord has to file with the court system. You get a court date and then go to court and explain to the judge why your rent isn't paid. By then you will probably have another pay check and if you can pay your rent the case will be dismissed.

If by then you still can't pay your rent, the judge can decide to grant you a stay if you need more time to get the money together or a concent agreement will be drawn up (an agreement between you and the landlord that you will pay your rent on such and such a date.) Now different states have different laws so exactly how it's handled will be determinded by your state laws but one thing is for sure, your stuff can not be put out without going thru the legal channels so that definitely gives you some time.

You might also check with your landlord or the local housing offices in the area and see what kinds of programs they might offer. There are some "one time assistance" programs that might be able to help you out.

Wishing you the best with your situation! I hope the police can locate the people who did this to you and at least recover your car!

Get a copy of the poilce record or statement and call all the places and explain what happened. Some places will work with you and hopefully you'll get the money back but that's actually if the catch and convict someone. It sucks when a friend betray's you like this. But hopefully the police can get everything figured out. Take some time to calm down and think things through. I'll send energy and blessings your way.

*ugh* That really sucks Hon. I'm sorry to hear it.
You mentioned insurance on the car, does that cover it being stolen? You should be able to file a claim on it and at least get some money (depending on the value of the car).
In the meantime I'd definately talk with your landlord and explain the situation, he may be compassionate about your difficulties.

Is there anyone you suspect? I'd keep an eye on them to see if they have a sudden influx of money. And if you have to take money out like that again, I would find some place safe to keep it and not tell anyone about it. :(

What about renter's insurance? *hugs* We were just broken into a while back and I know it's so stressful. Honestly I would keep the faith about the rent and other things though, stuff like getting the power shut off and getting evicted doesn't happen overnight. Is there someone in the real world who would help you out with a loan or something?

Best of luck to you.

Warning to members: fools, money, parted... If you want to send your hard earned dollars to a stranger with only one post to his name, it's your right, but don't say you weren't warned.

What Lumie said.

Vashant, you have my well wishes and my hopes that things will work out for the best. I don't feel inclined to send money, however.

Admin Mode

Unfortunately, in an age of Nigerian 419 scams and their like, we must all be skeptical about solicitations over the internet. Additionally, as an administrator, I would feel partly responsible if one of our members tried to offer help to someone who posted a solicitation like this and ended up getting scammed.

The administrators are looking into changing the forum rules to prohibit solicitation of this sort. People who genuinely need financial assistance should contact an administrator via PM and request to be listed in the Help-a-Member program. We will work with you to verify the situation and will provide other members with a way to help you.
