This is too cool!! Let me explain.
It was about 12:30 this afternoon when I went outside to have a cigarette.
My wife, Lisa, was doing her bead craft she likes to do.
I'm outside looking around at the sky because it was really nice out.
Then I noticed something flying above the tree in front of my house, no more than 100 feet away.
It was a HUGE hawk! It circled around the tree about 3 times.
It was so big, we thought it was an eagle!!
Then I tapped on the window and told my wife to have a look.
This beautiful bird circled a few more times before landing in the tree.
I began to stare like I'd never seen one before.
After a couple of minutes I went back inside and grabbed my cam-corder.:floating:
I really wanted to get some shots of this.
However, the hawk had other plans!
As soon as I got close to the tree to get some clear shots, he took off!! :hairraise
So my wife asked me to get her animal speak book.
Of course we had to look into why this hawk is flying so close to us.
Now the book says that a hawk is a messenger of sorts to and from the devine.
The book went on to say that the hawk teaches you to soar while keeping your feet on the ground.
We looked at different websites and figure it was a red-tailed hawk.
Usually this type of hawk stays in the same area, so I may see it again!!
To be honest, the hawk flew as if to attract attention.
If that's the case, it definately got mine.
I know I'll be keeping an eye out for it in the future. :colorful:
I'm hoping that I will see it agian.

Aren't hawks beautiful? I had a weird run-in with a hawk a few weeks ago...my husband had picked me up for lunch and we were off to the sushi-joint, when we passed this HAWK standing under a tree by the side of the road. I get out to see if I could spot if he was caught in anything, and he wasn't. He was doing an odd dance with his feet, though, and peering at something around his feet. I figured it could be prey.
There were lots of cars slowing down and I didn't want any foolhardy person trying to capture him, so I called a friend who used to work at the zoo and she called some bird people to come out there, but when I went back outside after calling her he had flown away.
It was amazing...I was about 18 inches away from him.

I wasn't sticking around, though....I could just picture him swooping up at my little head! :hairraise
I just had to check his feet out.

That is amazing...Raptors are facinating to me...I saw a huge owl once in a tree in broad daylight.

That is incredible Gareth! Animals speak to us in wonderful ways.
I am studying a lot on Shamanism. I somewhat envy your contact!
I am also impressed by your searching out the meaning.
Let's hope you see this wonderful sight again!

wow, that is amazing. i often see them when i'm out walking in an open field, but i've never seen one so close to my house. i think they're one of the most awesome creatures and i love their song. (i know it's a screech, but it's a song to me. :) )

Ok, it was me. I sent him. The message was......you're out of eggs. :D
Seriously though, that is really cool! Not only that he was there but that you saw him and really paid attention to him.
I hate it when someone just says, "oh yeah whatever" when something that magickal happens! I know you're not like that anyway, but it's still nice to hear. :)
You brought up something that I can't believe I never thought for myself....
We have (downtown) a family of Perigrine Falcons for the first time in 50 years. They are being protected and (this part I hate but understand), the city is happy to have them living in the highrise that they are living in because they eat pigeons and well, the residents don't like the pigeons. (I personally feel bad for the pigeons but hey, that's just me. :D )
Anywhoo, I'm about a mile to two miles outside the heart of the city. Twice now, I've looked out onto my back deck only to come face to freaking face (thankfully through the screen door) with one of these huge birds!
Now I feed the squirrels and other birds and have had a pair of mourning doves here for a few years, so I know that's really what this thing is looking for--food. However, there are over two dozen decks on this side of our complex and this bird keeps picking ours!!!
My family has called me an "animal magnet" for years anyway, leave me in one spot for more than a minute and I'm surrounded by animals or birds (ask Sugar Mags about the geese at our high school reunion!!! ) but I never even thought to look up why the Falcon is coming to me!!!!! Me who looks up the meaning of every little thing that happens in my life!!!!!!
So Gareth, I thank you for bringing that to my attention as I go to find out what this bird wants from me, (besides to eat me) and I hope your Hawk comes back!!! :hugz:

I love watching hawks, too. We're on the edge of our city, with fields around, and so we see them quite a bit. I've never seen one as close as Willow the Witch has, outside of a zoo, although I have often seen them do the little stamping movements with their feet she mentioned.
Happy raptor watching!

I had something like that happen when my mother died a few years back. It was a red-tail hawk, but instead of circling the house, it use to perch in the trees for hours. It's two favorite were the birch tree, which is 'bout 20 feet from the kitchen window, on the lowest branch, which was about 10 feet high, and the pine tree in the front yard.
There was another incident where a hawk almost dropped the fish it had caught on my car while on the highway. That was definately interesting... driving along... do do do do do... BIG bird in front of car with a 2 lb bass hanging in it claws. Is that supose to mean anything??? :tongueout
