K, your opinion and experience is needed . Do you beleive silver is the metal to banish negative emotions?

I personally dont see how. I wear nothing but silver and a celtic knot meaning " love is blessings" and i love all and beleive that kindness is the best blessing in life.Yet, neither seems to work for me.
I still dwell at times for days in negative emotions.

Honey, you're a human being and you have all kinds of feelings, happy, sad, excited, worried... positive and negative. That's what it takes to make a person balanced. However, if you feel negative and depressed more often than you feel happy or at peace, you need to work on that. Just wearing silver or a celtic knot isn't going to cure you of feeling things. Have you considered that you may be suffering from clinical depression. I ask because I suffered for many years. Or you may simply be putting too much importance on the times you feel negative, which is a normal way to feel when things aren't going very well or when something rotten happens to you.

I'm not sure how much sense I'm making this evening, I've been coping with a horrid headache all day. Maybe someone else will have something wiser to say.

Wearing silver or hematite or something similar certainly isn't necessary. Depending on how you respond to certain stimuli, they may help the situation.

However, that might just be treating the symptom and not the cause. What's causing the general negative feeling?

Well, to precise its an overall negative feeling. More of a feelin of dred. Like i am waiting on the edge of something that could fall.

It sounds like you have trouble with anxiety. Everone feels that way sometimes but it sounds to me like you're very sensitive to this emotion. Maybe soaking in a cleansing bath with a soothing cup of herb tea would help you relax. Meditaion would be worth a try. When you meditate repeat something such as "Peace" or "Relax" or whatever appeals to you and when you feel these emotions boiling up inside you say it to yourself like a mantra. You may be able to condition yourself to relax. Try an herbal remedy...I've read Valerian can be used as a mild sedative. Just a few thoughts....

This is going to sound silly, as I dont tend to use to many things with simple emotion control, though metal is an excellent focus for it. Normally when anything from dred, to saddness and paranoia sweep over me i use water. i go before a sink and run cold water, cupping it and splashing it over my face, letting the water soak the skin and i push the emotion to the skin and let the water take in back to the sink as it drips off my face....i repeat this process as needed but it normally just takes two splashes to do the trick...hope that helped any...

Definitely sounds more like anxiety than depression. Water is a good idea, as it symbolizes emotion. I'm not much up on metals, but if I remember correctly, copper would be better for that. Also, instead of always attempting to get rid of the negative, you also have to concider attempting to attract the positive. Sunlight, flowers, happy music, smiles, giggling, etc.
Even as a 98% black-wearing goth, I myself some days have to put on a colorful shirt, etc, and go outside in the daylight and enjoy the park or something. Focusing too much on the negative never truly allows you to forget it.

Hmmm, sounds like you may be an empath. We have a great place for us empaths to hang out and talk about things. Wanna take a peek?

Hmmm, sounds like the next time you see your doctor (yes doctor, not chinese herbalist or tribal healer or dragon kisser or grand high stickpoker of doom) tell him/her the symptoms and see if they think you have some kind of depressive disorder or whether youre just a normal human being. When it comes to health, forget metals and strange smelling concoctions (unless they happen to be iron or calcium tablets and cough syrup etc.). There's nothing wrong with medicine as it is taught in universities and practiced by medical doctors. You're not going to be struck with divine vengeance for seeking a practical solution instead of a spiritual one. The best suggestions on this page are sunlight and giggling. Sunlight causes the production of vitamin D and laughter releases endorphins, both of which will probably do you good.

First off, asking for spiritual assistance does not mean that you think "medicine = 3vi1".

Secondly, most doctors recognize the assistance that spiritual "healing" provides, whether prayer, energy-raising, or carrying around a piece of iron oxide shaped like a boob. In that case it doesn't matter what the person does so much as what they think the item does.

Thirdly, most of modern medicine is based on herbal remedies and the like; similarly, there is a biological basis for most "spiritual" practices.

So...yeah. Get off yer high horse. ;)

I agree with Kes. As someone who's been suffering with difficult emotions for over 10 years, had multiple therapists and been on a dozen different medications, I can say with some authority that when it comes to emotions, doctors DO NOT KNOW what they are talking about.

Doctors do not know why or if the medication they prescribe will help or not. Therapy CAN help you see the root causes (IF you're lucky enough to find a decent counselor, and can afford one) but therapists offer very few solutions. Knowing the cause is invaluable, but you still need to know what to do next.

There are infinite ways to help with anxiety and depression, particularly for someone of a mystical bent. The most important thing is finding someone to talk to. This does not have to be a therapist.

Any one of these things will help as well. Just start with one and you'll be surprised at the results.

-yoga (particularly dahnhak)
-meditation
-creative pursuits (writing, painting, sculpture, dancing)
-do things that you love. It's funny how often we forget to do this!
-relaxation
-funny movies
-books
-honesty, both with yourself and others
-spellwork
-being outdoors
-writing in a journal

The list goes on and on. Good luck. Feel free to contact me if you want to talk about it more.
