A really neat spell. I am not sure if it works but it sounded neat.
You take the pregnant woman in to a field or yard with white and red roses in it. You blindfold her and ask her to walk and touch a rose. Depending on what one she touches. (Red=Male. White=Female) Will tell you the babys sex. Or something along these lines. I just thought I would share.:D

I've done the needle-on-a-string thing ~ and it works! :D Then again, I grew up in Appalachia where folk magic is alive and well.
What you do is take about a foot long lenght of thread and loop it through a needle and suspend the needle over your right wrist ~ like a pendulum. Depending on how it swings, you're going to have male or female ~ it can even tell if it's multiple births.

I did pendulum prophecy on my hubby's sister when she was pregnant...it said it was a girl..and it was!
They say if you crave spicy foods, its a boy,
sweets..its a girl...
and if you have bad heartburn...it will be hairy.

I should have had stock in antacids while pregnant and all of mine were nearly bald! :D

Which leads me to ask a question..which antacids are ok to use during pregnancy? A friend of mine is pregnant..and she won't take any antacids, though she's tortured with heart burn. She's afraid they could hurt the baby. But my mother, too, was addicted to TUMS when she was carrying my sister..so I think it's ok. Any advice?

Have her ask her doctor. I took Mylanta while I was pregnant.

Mylanta or any of the generics that say compare to Mylanta are the antacid of choice during pragnancy. One big no-no especially during pregnancy is baking soda. Some people commonly use this as an antacid and it can literally wreck your buffer system of your blood. it can very quickly lead to metabolic acidosis and then the compensating starts and it gets really ugly from there. So please avoid this at all costs even if you aren't pregnant!
Also one of the newest saling points for tums now is the high calcium content it contains. many people even take them routinely as a calcium source. unfortunately this is doing them no good. The calcium in tums is not readily absorbed by the body. If your doc recommends taking a supplement find one that also contains magnesium...which is necessary for its absorption.

After years and years of massive heartburn and various antacids the only thing that can keep me from exploding some days is milk. That's definitely a healthy choice, and hey if it works for your friend all the better!

Oh and about the tums - the company is really pushing the extra calcium stuff. And yeah your body can't necessarily absorb it. In my case it's even worse as I'm very prone to kidney stones - which develop due to unabsorbed calcium piling up in there and sometimes binding with other chemicals. At 21 I've had kidney stones off an on for about a year and most likely due to all the antacids etc. I took.

LOL can't prove that by my Aunt...she had heartburn with both of her kids and they were both bald as cue balls!!! :p
Another thing I've found during pregancy (has anyone else found this) is that for the whole time I was pregnant I never had one case of the hiccups...the baby had them for me...

Thanks Mairwen for the flashback...I had forgoten all about that!! It is a great childhood memory of mine (now that I remember hehehe). I was obsessed with it and actually carried the string and needle with me everywhere I went and would walk up to pregnant strangers and ask them if they wanted to know what they were having!!:D :D
Do you know where this originated?

The needle or key on a string has been right 17 out of 18 times for me.

I did that too with all three of my kids and it was accurate all three times!!! As for the heartburn/hairy thing, you could definitely prove it by me, but my aunt...? She had heartburn from the day my cousins were conceived (she even had heartburn during labour!) till they were born, and they were both bald as billiard balls!!!

I figure the fact that I've had severe heartburn off and on since I was about 18 PROVES that my children will be half gorilla (hehe and it's not my half ;))
