Spreads lesson 2 ~ The Horseshoe Spread

Hiya all!
More fun! :D
This ones a great take on a few other famous spreads (which we will be covering very soon) and gives great insights particulary on questions, so get shuffling, asking and reading! & ofcourse dicussing :D

The Horseshoe Spread
The Horseshoe is a simple spread of seven cards arranged, unsurprisingly, something like a horseshoe. This spread is often considered to be more applicable to a specific question than a general reading, though it may be used for either.

1 The Past ~ Important events, issues or attitudes that have given rise to the current situation
2 The Present ~ The prevailing circumstances around the questioner
3 Hopes and Fears ~ The questioner's hopes, fears and expectations about the question or situation
4 Obstacles ~ Current obstacles, problems and conflicts that the questioner must deal with
5 Environment ~ The attitudes and actions of other people around the questioner
6 The Future ~ Future events and fresh influences about to come into play
7 The Outcome ~ The eventual outcome of events shown by the other cards

Personally I always lay the cards out with the curve pointing upwards ~ but each to there own :)

This appears to be a fine speard, however, it doesn't seem to talk to me. I have shuffled and dealt 10-fold and, still, nothing.

I'm okay with single, three card and Celtic Cross spreads. This one just seems to elude me.

Any idea as to why?:elf:

I guess that some spreads work for you and some dont :) Maybe this one is just not for you..Maybe the spreads you already know are perfect for you! The Celtic Cross is brilliant isnt it!

Why dont you give it another try and see what you feel after :D

Haven't got my cards here (not normally a good idea to bring them to work!) but I'm looking forward to trying this one. Don't like the idea of doing the upside down horseshoe - maybe because I was told as a kid that you have to keep horseshoes the right way up or all the luck would flow out!

Still like Celtic Cross the best! Just feels right!

Yeah me too ~ It doesnt seem right having the curve pointing down does it?

This ones real clever and fun I think because its a really nice shape (everyone know horseshoes are lucky too) and you and the querrant can see the progessions change in a curve.. Which may make this spread easier for the querrant to understand and remember than the Celtic Cross which kind of goes all over the place for the querrant.

Some querrants might prefer the apparent mysticism of the Celtic Cross, whereas some I know (the b/f included!) would probably prefer to see the progression in the Horseshoe.

lol, I think thats why the Celtic Cross is so popular (and its centuries old!) because it looks more difficult than it is and kind of throws the querrant off for the reader to be incontrol.

If your uncomfortable with the "horseshoe" spread with the curve at the bottom, call it something different....like the "Smile" spread! :D

Ive been looking at this spread again and thought id like to change 5) Environment to ~ a kind of helping card ~ To help with the Obstacle! Your secret weapon so to speak!

I've just been doodling different ideas about an 'inspirational' smile spread - you know, the sort of thing you want to do when things are not going very well (I thought the smile/horseshoe shape would be perfect for it!) and I kept it all the same EXCEPT for card 5, which was going to be "dealing with obstacles".

Nearly the same as your secret weapon darl!

One of us is psychic at least then!

Okay....I admit....I didn't have a specific question in mind when I shuffled....so....general reading it is! :D

....Funny thing is....I'm very careful about holding and shuffling my cards so they all come out upright.....but.... I have a rebel card in the deck!

1. Knight of pentacles
2. Empress (R)
3. 3 of Wands
4. Ace of Pentacles
5. 5 of Cups
6. 7 of Cups
7. King of Swords

So.....interesting....that the ACE is in the Obstacle position! ...pentacles at that!

Now this is what I get from the spread....

The knight is a messenger of $$ ...possibly finding out about a job opening that Jamie is applying for.

The Empress is me and I'm not too happy....discontent....Not as nurturing and as supportive as I could be. ...or my environment isn't very abundant at the moment....

The 3 is my search for something....that ship to come in...or seeking creative ways to make ends meet.

The Ace....as an obstacle....money's tight! Our relationship would be better if we didn't argue about $$!

Five of Cups....Environment.....Jamie feels he's letting me down and knows he may lose me because of insufficent income on his part.

7 of Cups...Future....fresh influences....(hopefully Jamie will get that job and I will have to dream of ways to spend the $$!) ....there will be options and decisions to be made.

King of Swords~Outcome.....I have no idea. :p

Dagda ~ I see the same as you hun, maybe the King of Swords will be you and Jamie talking about the situation more? This card stands for decisions for me with you have to be decisive so that would fit with your money worries and everything.
It almost feels like a card was missing for you there at the end too...did you feel that too?
Do you ever draw more cards over the last after you have read the spread? Cos if the king of swords didnt get you maybe you needed another one to get the message across...

Thanks for the lesson. I don't know much about different spreads, this one is new to me and I can't wait to try it! I have a horseshoe above the door, my 150 yr. old house belonged to a blacksmith and my horseshoe came with the house, belongs to the house, will stay here if I ever leave. There's no way I'd turn a horseshoe upside-down in this house! ;) That's asking for it!

This spread really is working well for me. It helped me understand a specifc problem that I've been dealing with. This spread is great for a specific problem, since it's simple and straightforward, yet with 7 cards it gets into a good amount of detail.:cool:

Ok I decided to try this out as I havent done this one for a while and I think its grrreeaat! :)

1 The Past ~ Important events, issues or attitudes that have given rise to the current situation

Ok firstly ~ I was shuffling and the Ten of Wands fell out which says your going through a tough time at the moment? I got that anyway...

I got the Nine of Swords for the Past ~ This too is a real worry card, so I get the feeling something of recent had gone wrong and been troubling you, upsetting your world. Something or more so ~ someone is really getting to you .. still I feel... and this sticky situation has to be sorted out. They arent doing it to hurt you directly at all, they probally dont even know they are rocking the boat so much I feel but it is, allot more than you let on.. and its really getting on your bonnet!

2 The Present ~ The prevailing circumstances around the questioner
~ Page of Penatcles! This is a better one :) & I feel where as you are worried about something , somehting else is happening which is bringing happiness and comfort into your life. Maybe this situation is bringing you closer to someone you love and cherish and plans are being made. Nice happy family plans!
There has also been an exchange of somekind ~ have you had a present given to you or given one recently? One that you or they really liked! and this has brightened up your day! This card also stands for being practical and trusting (your attributes) so I feel these elements may come into the worrying situation aswell as a postive force.

3 Hopes and Fears ~ The questioner's hopes, fears and expectations about the question or situation
~
Death ~ This as you know stands for change, sometimes for the better and soemtimes for the worse. In relation to your first card ~ this has passed now, hence the page, and although you dont feel completely better or safe you know there is a solution and a way around this. You can see the light and fruits growing in the distance again as you have or are very near to a solution.

As a hope and/or fears ~ this is both ~ you welcome change and love surpirses in life, often changing direction, style and ideas. But also you fear it at the same time ~ most of us do dont we!

You also want the situation to end I get.

4 Obstacles ~ Current obstacles, problems and conflicts that the questioner must deal with
~
Two of Cups ~ Hmm this isnt romantic at all I feel this is to do with friends ~ I think this is the situation in the first card and the fallen card ~ You want to see the light and work things out. You want a truce, but this is also a problem as well in some way? Im confused by this one. You feel that you cant do anything to solve the situation and cant make a truce in some way. You feel very distant but its all on top of you at the same time?
Is any of this making sense?

5 Environment ~ The attitudes and actions of other people around the questioner
~
Arrrrr!! :) The King of Cups ~ This is your guy, I get he's very important to your life all the time but espeically for some reasong right at the moment ~ being there for you loving and supporting you! he stands for romance, calmness, sensuality and aslo wisedom. He is very patient and caring, can be a bit moody but hey cant all guys! He's very emotional, and because this card came up now.. he must be even more at the moment! Does this have anything to do with the Page? :)

6 The Future ~ Future events and fresh influences about to come into play
~
Six of wands ~ An ego boast card! This shows a man holding a golden sheep above him rejoicing at his conquest! Your going to win this bttle this is saying! There will be some kind of victory!
So in relation to the situation ~ I think there will be a resolve and one for the better!
Your going to feel really good and 'you' again soon so hold in there! Youve been feeling on and off out of sorts of recent but this will show the strong real you again. I get allot of good energy from this card :)

7 The Outcome ~ The eventual outcome of events shown by the other cards
~
The Tower ~ This has deffiantley to do with the thing that is troubling you ~ this can be for the recent past ~ everything has fallen down suddenly and come to a head and things have gone wrong dispite your efforts.. and it can apply to the near future too ~ but remember you come out on top! and proud to be the there, stronger... I get that this problem will have to be addressed and this may cause some upset but after the storm has calmed all will be over and calm for everyone and peace, still calm waters can be played in again.
After the storm comes the calm :sunny:

Well, you are right about the rough time, I've been going through GROWTH hahaha - that's not always a pleasant thing, but ends up good, change is always a bit disconcerting. There have been a few things and people getting to me, and a while ago it was bothering me, but the weekend work I did has done a lot to put it all behind me and move on. So yes, it's right, and it is in the Past. :)

Hmmmmmm... well, there is change all about, and much of my readings are supportive of the changes I'm making right now. I have been a lot closer to hubby lately, but no plans for family just yet!!! ;) Presents.. not sure. No gifts in the physical sense, but I have been getting a lot of messages (gifts?) from God/dess lately, so that's something.

Yes! Change change change!!! LOL I ought to show you the readings I've been getting lately, wow! Yes, the things that were bothering me have passed, or been let go, and I am starting to see positive things in the future. "see the light and fruits growing" - like the lotus unfolding! :)

Well, I think I know what this is relating to. It works into the letting go and moving on from past situations and people no longer in my life. While I have made the decision to move on, I can't speak for the other people involved, and so that is where the situation possibly being unresolved comes in - as I refuse to remain involved, but there's nothing I can do to control the actions of others.

Hmmmm, don't know about the moodiness - that's me! haha But the rest is right, I have been very much supported by Hubby with all the changes going on lately.

Yep! I have been feeling really out of sorts and sort of lost, but things have become a lot clearer in the past few days, especially over the weekend. I am feeling much better!!!

Hmmmmm, not sure about this one though. Things have come to a head, and a decision to remain involved or walk away was made (walk away). And I feel much more in control of myself and my actions because of this. Perhaps the addressing of the problem was to do with owning my actions - good and bad - from the situation and the lessons this whole thing has taught me, and now I am ready to move on?
