A Charm for Gambling

On the first Thursday of the new moon, at the hour of Jupiter, before sunrise, write on virgin parchment: Non licet ponare in egarbona quia pretia sanguinis. Place the head of a viper in the middle of the page, fold the corners in, and when you are going to gamble tie the parchment with the writing and the head to your left arm, under your clothes, with a red ribbon.......

A Charm to Break Some Troublesome Habit

You must take a white egg, and, through small holes made in each end, blow forth the contents from the shell. Plug up one hole with a little softened beeswax, then fill the shell, using a fine funnel, with sour red wine. Carefully seal the second hole with more wax, and in red ink write upon the surface of the shell the name of that plaguing compulsion you would be rid of. Take this egg in secret to a place where great rocks cover the ground. Stand there and say these words:

Halls of blood where life has fled
Walls of bone that close me round
I break thy reign, thy yoke I shed
I cast thy powers to the ground

Hurl the egg against a rock so that it shall burst into fragments and the contents be spilt upon the Earth. Then gather up the broken bits of shell, take them home, and grind them to a powder in a mortar. This charmed dust should be kept within a small jar, a pinch of it to be placed upon the tongue and swallowed whenever further treacherous temptations may appear.

A Charm to Rid the Mind or the Body of an Affliction

Gather a quart of water from some spring or stream, and pour it into a large bowl, set within a darkened chamber; by candlelight, then, take a silver knife and write with its point upon the water's surface the name of that which afflicts you. Next, soak a small lock of lamb's wool first in a sweet-scented oil and second in some red wine. Carry it to the bowl and drop it into the water, saying these words:

The dark be lightened
The harsh be softened
The rank be sweetened
By the power of the knife
And by the power of the water.

Leave the lamb's wool there to soak all night, until sunrise, when it should be removed, wrung out, and set to dry upon a small circle of white velvet cloth. Meanwhile, the contents of the bowl should be emptied out into a hole dug in the Earth, and the hole filled in again. When the lamb's wool is quite dry it should be sewn up in the velvet and pinned beneath your clothing, to be worn for a full month, and thereafter kept elsewhere in safety, that its charmed powers may not be diminished through neglect.

A Modern Witch's Healing Spell

To help speed a recovery from illness, write the sick person's name upon a white human-shaped candle of the appropriate gender. As you anoint it with three drops of myrrh or mint oil, visualize healing energy in the form of white light flowing from your hands into the candle, and say:

In the divine name of the Goddess
Who breathes life into us all
I consecrate and charge this candle
As a magickal tool for healing.

Place the candle on top of a photograph of the sick person and then light the wick. As the candle burns down, concentrate upon the person in the photograph, willing him or her to be well again, and chant the following incantation:

Magick mend and candle burn,
Sickness end; good health return.

A Protective Domestic Crystal Ritual

If you feel afraid when you are at home alone or you are encountering
external hostility that is hard to shed at the front door, sit as near as
you can to the centre of your home and hold your favourite protective
crystal. Gaze into it and let its soft colour enfold you in a protective
cocoon. When you feel safe, open doors and windows as you move clockwise
round the house towards the main exit. This would be the back door or in an
apartment a back or side facing window. Shake your crystal out of the back
door and let any negativity fly upwards in along black thread until it
becomes a dark cloud, which will then disperse into shimmering sunbeams.
Close the door and reward your chosen crystal with a soak in oure mineral
water for 12 hours.

A Spell for Healing

After Grounding, Centering and Casting the Circle...
Envision the person whom you wish to heal and imagine the energy surrounding you moving to encompass them. Focus on your positive emotions for the person and let them guide the flow of the spell; remember the trust that this person has given you in granting permission for this spell to be cast - this trust is also a strong link.

Light the Goddess Candle, reciting Her name and calling to Her power.

Light the God Candle, reciting His name and calling to His power.

From both lit candles, light a single, red taper (red for power, light, warmth and healing) set in a green base (for nature and healing).

Fill the Chalice with natural water (if possible) and wet a strip of cloth in it.

Chew a small bit of fresh Ginger Root (for strength and the power of the spell) and then place it in the center of the cloth. Sprinkle this with Rosemary (for healing).

Call out to the Goddess and God both, invoking Them to heal the person in need with words that flow from your feelings. Simple and direct wording asking for nature's gift to heal the subject of their affliction.

Light the wrapped Ginger Root and Rosemary with flame from the red taper and place it within your Cauldron or on a fire-safe place. Visualize the flames carrying the healing energy up and away to help the person in need.
Thank the Goddess and God.
Close the Circle.
Ground any excess energy.

A Spell for House blessing

Equipment
Bells, light blue candles, ritual oil, a large quartz crystal, several pieces
of onyx or obsidian, and two pieces of rose quartz
From the book, True Magic, by Amber K Llewelyn

The Spell
This consist of three steps: Clensing, blessing, and sealing (protection)
Assemble your group and assune, but do not cast a crcle right away.
Beginning at the heart of the house, proceed deosil through every room and
level, ringing the bell and asperging with salt water. Go to the heart of
the attune again; then once more, this time with candles, and sprinkle
rosemary in every room. You want to sing or chant a blessing ryme such as:
"Goddess bless this house below, Honored God bless this house above; keep it
safe by night and day, fill it with Their power and love"
Then return to the heart, attune, and cast the sirsle. Seated with linked
hands, chant wordlessly (or use "Evohe" or "Om"), and with a swelling,
powerful circle of sound, expand the magick circle until ti encloses all the
house and grounds.
Then proceed one last time, with the ritual oil and stones. The large
the large crystal stayes at the heart of the house, where it has been
charged by the chanting. An onyx or obsidian ward is placed over each door,
and a spiritual envoking pentagram is draw with oil over every opening, door
and window, fireplace or vent. The two rose quartz pieces are placed on
either side of the main entrance into the house. The group returns to the
heart for singing and refreshments. Leave the circle up. Once the initial
cleansing is done, merriment and humor are not out of place in a house
blessing: they can set the tone for happy times to come. If you wan a chant
or poem on the light side, then use this at some point in the process:
"This home be safe from tigers wild,
Here only tame things domiciled;
No bogle , troll nor grinch allowed,
Noe motley mob nor creeping crowd.
Bless everything within these walls,
No matter if it sits or crawls.
Let mild weather be inside,
For those 'neath this roof tree bide; And too if not enlightenment
Then piazz, love and merriment.
And if these lines seems slightly odd,
Be glad at least the mostly rhyme."

A Home blessing Meditation for charging a room:
Sit straight with palms on lap. Take deep breaths, relax and move into a
mental place where you activate your intuitive senses. Imagine a cord of
energy from your spine connecting you to the earth, and channeling your
energy from the earth through it. Silently ask for devine protection,
guidence, and blessing. Direct your psychic sensing outward, and feel lines
of force coming out of your aura. Note where the strongest energy is.
(check the floor, cielling, directions, ect.) Note spots that feel empty or
dead, note places that feels full; alive, focus on where you are sitting and
how you feel at this particular spot. Imagine a sphere of light and love
energy at your heart, feel it pulsing outward with every breath, feel
youself as a star, continue to brethe deeply and send out the energy,
letting it pulsate in the room. When ready, star making power sounds
representing the love and light you are channeling; use it to amplify the
light you are weaving; then fill the room with energy. Then shift focus to
sending the probe out into the room, and note the differences in the quality
of energy and how you feel about it. Repeat if neccessary, when done, feel
the completeness of the work.

A spell for just a little nudge...in love matters

Tools:
Lighter
A pink candle
Musk oil
Pin
Marjoram herb
A small pink cloth with the words "dream of me,
be with me" on one side and
"just a little nudge" on the other
Little pink or red pouch
metal or glass plate
What to do:
Cast the circle, call the quarters, the usual...
Dim the lights, leave a candle burning if you wish.
Take the pink candle and anoint it with the musk oil while thinking of the
intended. Scratch the name of the person on one side of the candle with the
pin and
the word love on the other. Place the pink cloth in the plate with the
"just a little nudge" facing down. Light the candle and
affix the cloth to the plate by letting hot wax drip
on the corners of the cloth. While visualizing your desire,
use the wax drippings to form the shape of a

heart in the middle of the cloth. Drip some wax in the center of it
and place the candle there. With the candle burning,
empower a pinch of marjoram by pinching it tightly
between your fingers and feeling energy flowing into it.
Sprinkle the marjoram on the place touching the heart and candle.
Let the candle burn down.
Crinkle the hard pool of wax as much as you can while thinking of your
desire. Take the remains of wax, marjoram and the cloth and put them in the
small
pink or red pouch.Sleep with the pouch under your pillow
and by using dream direction, allow
yourself to dream of the intended (even if in the morning you don't
remember the dream, don't fret, you probably dreamed of the person)
Sleep like this for as long as needed until the day comes when you are
going to meet the person.
Then, take the pouch with you.
When you see that person, wait until the time is right.
close your eyes and touch the pouch.
Feel it's power.
Open your eyes and glance straight at the intended.
So mote it be!

A Spell for the Jilted Witch

Rise before sunrise on a Sturday or a Tuesday when the moon is waining.
Select a branch (traditionaly of hazel, but any tree will do) of "one years
growth" and lop it off with your Anthamé, chanting these words as you do:

I sever thee, thou virgin branch, in the name of [victime's name]
for purposes of (his/her) downfall!

return home with this switch, and cast that night, when you feel sure
your enemy is sleeping. Cast a circle using an incense of wrath and
chastisement. Then visualizing the face of your victim in the altar
triangle, and beging at the east, begin circling the altar and rotating on
your own axis "counterclockwise". As you do, chant these following words
with each personal revolution; make as many of these personal pirouettes as
you can fit in.

Droch! Mirroch! Esenaroth!
Betu! Baroch! Maaroth!

When ever you find your self facing the altar, strick it hard with the
switch held in your left hand. Make three complete revolutions of the
circle. When you finally reach the east after your last cicuit, drop to the
floor, completely " letting go" and chanting the words "so mote it be!"
Traditionally, the person who has offended you will feel the blows, if
not on his face, then at least dealt out by fate.

A SPELL FOR THE RELIEF OF MAGICKAL HEADACHES

Find a place to be alone. This place should be comfortably lit and free of
smoke and fumes (this includes incense and essential oils). Place two chairs
(one comfortable enough to relax in) facing each other. Sit in the relaxing
chair. Take two slow, deep breaths and allow your eyes to fall naturally on
the other chair. Now instruct your central 'self' (or your higher self,
subconsious mind, or whatever you use for non-consious workings) to form an
image of the pain in that chair. REMEMBER TO BREATHE! As the image starts to
appear, concentrate on making it as detailed as possible without letting your
consious mind interfeare. Once the image is complete, note its appearance and
then allow the remainder of your discomforts to flow into it (without
otherwise empowering it or lending it your energy or essence). REMEMBER TO
BREATHE while doing this. When the transfer is substantially complete, take
two deep, relaxing breaths, stand up, and walk away (leaving the image in its
chair). After an hour or so, the image will dissipate, making it safe to move
the chair.

After you have successfully done this two or three times, you can start
streamlining it and customizing it to suit your own tastes. If the
effectiveness starts to fade, return to this method for a few times.

This spell can be used for a variety of discomforts, but it can also mask
medical symptoms. In case of chronic or prolonged problems, CONSULT A DOCTOR
IMMEDIATELY! After all, there are few enough of us as it is!

when in need.A Spell of Protection

Sit or stand before any fire. Look into the flames (or flame, if using a candle). Visualize the fire bathing you with glowing, protective light. The fire creates a flaming, shimmering sphere around you. If you wish, say the following or similar words:

"Craft the spell in the fire;
Craft it well; Weave it higher.
Weave it now of shining flame;
None shall come to hurt or maim.
None shall pass this fiery wall;
None shall pass No, none at all."

Repeat this simple yet effective ritual every day

A spell on creativity.

To Stimulate Creativity
For this spell you'll need a flute or air instrument of some kind. Panpipes,
a harmonica, penny whistle, but an instrument made out of wood or bamboo is
best. If you've never used such an instrument before, get to know it prior to
using it in magic. Be certain that you can make it create the desired sounds.
Then, do the following: Light a yellow candle. Hold the flute before it while
saying these or similar words

Music magic
Come to me;
Music magic
Let me see.
Music wakes the
Muse in me:
Music magic
Come to me.
Music magic
Opens me
To the music
Mystery.
Mystic mind
Awakened be.
Music magic
Sets me free.

Visualize yourself writing that letter, composing that speech, finishing that
painting, weaving that rug, or beginning to work on that book that you've
been meaning to write for some time. Now play the instrument for a few
seconds. You don't have to play a song; simply let the flute bring forth it's
energy through its music. Once you've accomplished this, set down the
instrument and, within sight of it, do your creative work. If your conscious
mind once again block you, play the flute for a few seconds and go back to
your work. When you're finished for the moment, snuff out the candle flame
and put the taper and instrument in a special place until the next time you
need them.

A Spell to Cure A Cold

You'll need:
1 blue candle
1 oz. powdered ginger
5 drops eucalyptus oil

Run a hot bath. Add the ginger and the eucalyptus oil. Light the blue candle and turn out the lights. Enter the bathtub, and soak in the bathwater. Feel the waters cleansing you of the toxins in your body, and say:
Isis, Goddess who heals all Release this (cold, flu, etc.) from me Make me well again.
Chant this as you feel the toxins leaving your body. When you feel slightly shakey (this will happen!), drain the tub and visualize the toxins washing down the drain. Rinse your body and your tub with cool water, visualizing all of the toxins washing off of your body, and your body becoming free of what you were sick with. Bring the candle to your room and immediately go to bed, keeping the candle light for a few minutes as you visualize yourself waking up feeling much better.

*Note: If you need to, put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a cotton pad and put it by your pillow. This helps a lot!

A Spell to See Spirits

To see spirits, old European grimoires recommend mixing
together aloe, pepper, musk, vervain, and saffron and burning this
in a cemetery. We can adapt this for other locations (like those in
which the spirit lived) by adding a bit of sweet grass or tobacco to
a specially prepared incense. Create the incense on the
anniversary of the death of the individual you wish to contact.
This is then burned at 11 am, in the safety of a magic circle that
also holds symbolic items to connect you to the entity. An
incantation to encourage the spirit's presence is "Guardians of the
Spirit realm, hear and guide my plea. When the witching hour rings
true, bring my friend (loved one, etc.) ________ to me. Other
souls who hear my call are not welcome in this place. Only the one
known as _____ may enter sacred space."

Repeat the request three times, twenty minutes apart, then wait
quietly for indications of a presence. Signs include the scent of
flowers or a favored cologne, a cool wind, movement of curtains,
and candles going out or twitching erratically. Once you feel sure
the spirit is with you, do not make it tarry overly long. Take care of
your business, say farewell, and thank the guardians for their
assistance.

Spell Usage

Communication with and understanding the purposes of spirits.

Word of Warning: Spiritual entities should not be banished or
called for amusement. It is best to contact a knowledgeable,
experienced psychic for advice or assistance before undertaking
any of these spells.

Spell Timing

In-between times (noon, midnight, dusk, and dawn). Halloween.
Seasons of late fall and winter. Moon in Libra. Eclipses.

A Token for Expelling Negativity

To make a portable tool for expelling negativity, begin by dabbing your
pulse points and chakras with a mixture of powdered cloves and lemon
oil. This opens the avenue for spiritual purification. Next, take a
small, square black cloth and a slightly larger white cloth. Hold the
black cloth with both hands. Visualize the habit you are trying to
banish as black sludge coming out of your pores and being absorbed by
the cloth.
Once you feel the negativity has been discharged, take the white cloth
in hand saying six times, "This is the light of protection, of purity.
As it covers the darkness, so it brings safety to me." As you speak
these words, imagine a blinding white light pouring into the cloth. Lay
out the black swatch, place some pine needles and frankincense bits on
it, and then put the white one over it. Carefully bundle the two
together so that no portion of the black can be seen. Carry the token
with you to expel negativity wherever you are. General Uses
Expelling negative energies or spirits. Turning malevolent magic.
Ridding oneself of obsessions, addictions, and phobias. Time
The light of day, specifically dawn. The months of January, July, and
October. When the moon is in Aries, Gemini, or Sagittarius. During a
blue moon. On your birthday or dates with special meaning.

All Heal Spell

An easy to do All Heal Spell ... to aid in the healing of all
conditions, or to soothe the symptoms of serious illness.Items needed:
2 Bowls warm water
Bless or empower the water as you see fit... I just pray to the God and
Goddess and ask them to aid me in my healing, then I send as much
personal energy as I can into the water. Lie upon the bare earth (if not
possible, floor is OK). Have each hand in a separate bowl of warm water,
arms stretched out to the sides.
Visualise roots sprouting from the base of your spine, going down into
the earth. Breath deeply, and with each deep, slow inhalation, feel the
roots burrow deeper into the earth. see a bright light at the
center...see your roots penetrate it... now with each slow, deep breath,
draw up the energy from this light into you.
See two streams of light begin to come from the sky, one stream into
each bowl...feel the love of the God fill the bowl to your left, feel
the love of the Goddess fill the bowl to the right.
Draw this love from the bows into your body through your hands. Collect
the love energy from the bows and the energy from the earth into your
heart, where your most personal energy is kept. Build all the energy
here...until you can contain it no more.
When you can no longer contain the energy in your heart, release the
energy to flood your entire body, and shout as loud as you can "HEAL
ME!!!" at the same time as the release.
Continue to draw the energy for a while, letting it flow through your
body, and spilling onto the ground...relax, and enjoy the peace that
will settle over you.
After you have relaxed for a while, draw up your roots into your body,
remove your hands from the water, and sit up. Take a sip from the bowl
to your left, and thank the God for his love, then spill it at the base
of a tree. Then take a sip from the bowl at your right, and thank the
goddess for her love, then spill it upon the same tree. In the future,
care for this tree...it has been blessed by the love of the gods (the
water) and it will aid you in your health.

Note that your altar should be something reflecting you as well! So you don't always have to follow this thing to a 'T'. Have fun and Blessed Be:)
Types of Layouts

Elemental: Arranged by the four elemental corners Usually set on a square table for easier alignment Corners (or sides) set to be aligned with the four courners.

Diety Based:
Arranged with the Masculine elements (Air, Fire) on the right side and the Femanine elements (Water, Earth) on the left. Usually set on an enlongated table My personal altar (commonly refered to as my "Candle Table") is a basic example.
Some Basic Componets

God and/or Goddess symbol: A personal symbol that one places somewhere on the altar to remind themselves of the presense of the God and/or Goddess in their lives. It can be anything from a purple (Goddess) or gold (God) candle to a statue of the Virgin Mary (Christian's do have beautiful statues of Mary...)

Athame: A black handled, *traditionally* double bladed knife used to direct natural energy from within the body to the outside realm. This tool aligns with the element of Air and Fire (making it sacred to the God), and is most easily used (compatable) with those aligning with Air and Fire. The athame is the shortened version of the sword. It was shortened to make hiding one during times of perseqution easier. Now, though, swords are usually just used in Covens for rites.

Cauldron: A symbol of the Goddess. Salts are placed inside it and set on the altar to represent earth and energy can be directed into it during rituals. Also, herbs can be mixed inside of them for spells and they can be used to hold just about anything. The idea behind it is that the cauldron is a representation of the life giving power of the Goddess, thus making the cauldron the symbolic representation of Her womb. Wand: Used for invocation purposes and is rarely used to direct energy. Airs seem to work the best with this tool, as it aligns with the God (again, Air and Fire). Wands can be any shape or size, colour or make. I have a small Live Oak branch for my want, personally, but I know that it is posible to have wands with crystals on the end (possibly for better energy directing) as well as inscribed with runes.

Pentacle: A flat piece of metal, clay, wood, stone, or natural substance on which the five pointed star (pentacle) is drawn. The pentacle, when worn as a tailsman, is a symbol of protection. Pentacle on altars are most often used by Earths (though I'm an Air/Water crossover) and I have a wax one near my altar and a metal one in the pouch I carry around. Something interesting I've been told about the use of pentacles during rituals is that, for Earths, one can place a spell or tool on it and it helps stabilise and charge whatever you're doing.

Censer: (I.E. incense burner) Incense is used used to purify a sacred space or to help shift awareness to the spiritual world behind the physical. Any element can use this for ritual purposes and it is most commonly used to represent the element of air (and fire, if you really think about it).

Bells or Instruments: Used to mark portions of rituals or spells as well as to (like incense) shift awareness to the spiritual world. Again, airs are partial to bells or instruments.

Natural Altars look something like this... Look around your living space and I'm sure that you'll find an altar. All an altar is, is a place where you honour the memory, the idea, or anything of something you consider important. For me, my dresser can be seen as an altar because I have comics that are special to me on it as well as pictures of my friends, items that mean a lot to me, and a moving force in my life, music (My sterio and Cd collection). Check and see what you've got, it's always fun to go, "Hey! I've had an altar all along and I never knew it!"

Amulet spell

Items needed: pen/ paper, stone/object, bag/necklace
Take the problem/ thing you wish protection from (I.E. negative
energy) and write it down, give as many details as possible (boss at
work with a negative attitude, girl down the hall with bad temper).

Take the paper and visualize the problem, then, visualize a barrier
of glowing light flowing down from Deity and protecting you (some good
ones for this are Athena, protecter and warrior, and the God in his
protective aspect, also, any of the Cat Gods (Bast, Sekhmet) have their
protective aspect, and the Goddess as Mother is protective)
Visualize a shell covering you in all three dimensions, above below, in
all the directions(the Guardians may be invoked here if you wish,) also
in the astral, and anywhere else you need protection. Take all of this
energy and project it forward into the object you have chosen to be your

amulet (an onyx stone works well for me). Let the energy pour through
you, and into the stone. Keep the shell up! It is protecting you, and
flowing into the stone. When you feel the spell is complete, slowly turn

off the flow of energy, and place the circle surrounding you into the
object, saying works like "this circle now is not dispelled, this circle

now it is withheld, this circle now it protects me, as I will so mote it

be". Then, burn the paper, symbolizing that the porblem has no control
over you, and take your charged stone/ object and carry it on your
person when you face that situation.

Also: Remember to pray & spell about the situation, keeping yourself
protected from it and dissolving it are two different things, but they
do go hand in hand.

An Approach to Dispels a Headache

If you have a headache lay down gently, and close your eyes picturing nothing but darkness and stars brightening up the eternal darkness. See the satellite and see yourself laying there in space, and see red laser rays coming from your head going into the satellite. Keep picturing this, and then see the satellite letting out blue rays of energy, good energy going into your head. Keep it up for at least three minutes, and after those three minutes slowly lift up your head, and very slowly shake it, and you should feel your headache gone from you.

all of this in a chinese tea-pot, and drink all the tea.
4.At least 3 days of the week, go for a 20 - 30 min walk in a quiet,

***To Attract a Love
Play a CD or Tape of some romantic music that means something to you. Make
sure that the music does not include songs that
you associate with another person. It is important to keep specific people
out of your mind performing this spell. On a sheet of
cardboard, light a candle of your favorite color to represent you. Then,
light a red or pink candle to represent whoever your
new love may be. Using a red magic marker or crayon, draw a heart around the
red candle. Every day for at least a week,
relight the candles in the evening, and as soon as you light the candles,
move them slightly closer together, so that on the last
day, the candles are as close together as possible.

To Attract A Lover

This is for when you have a lover but he or she is not as attentive as you would wish. You know they love you, but....

Sit before a dying fire and gaze into it, clearing your mind of all but thoughts of your lover. Have a small basket of laurel leaves between your knees. Keeping your gaze fixed on the fire, dip your left hand into the basket, take out a handful of the leaves, and toss them onto the fire. As they burst into flame, chant out loud the following:

Laurel leaves that burn in the fire,
Draw unto me my heart's desire.

Wait till the flames have died down, then repeat the action. Do it a third time. Within 24 hours your lover will come to visit you.

Autumn Equinox, 2nd Harvest

Tools:
In addition to your m'jyk-l tools you will need:

* A Red Alter Cloth
* A Wicker Basket
* A Red Apple
* Assorted Fruits and Vegetables of the Second Harvest (Berries, Squash,
Corn, etc)
* A Bell
* A Fallen Tree Branch
* A Bolline
* A Sprig or Two of Ivy
* An Autumn Blend Incense
* Any other Personal items of choice

Preparation:
Sweep area, moving in a deosil (clockwise) manner. Outline your Circle with
a
red cord, low vibration stones, or various Harvest items such as wheat,
corn,
beans, etc. Set up your alter and place the red alter cloth over it. At
center top, place the wicker basket, filled with the assorted fruit and
vegetables. Place the apple and the bolline on your Pentacle or a plate.
Place the tree branch to the right of the basket. Place the rest of your
tools and props according to your personal preference. Take a shower or bath
for purity. Sit quietly and meditate to ground and center. When you are
ready, begin by playing some soothing music associated with the Sabbat and
your ritual.

Cast the Circle and call Quarters.....Pick up your Wand in your right hand,
face your alter, and with arms stretched out above your head, say:

"I honor Thee, Autumn Queen, and Thy consort, the God of the Harvest.
The Wheel has once more turned, and the change of season begins.
What will be is. What was will be.
The Equinox is upon us, and the time to reflect, at hand.
All time comes together, here and now in this sacred space.
And I, but a moment in time, feel the change as I pass From one season to
the
next.
The Second Harvest has been reaped, and the time of rest is deserved.
Go now My Mother and slumber.
Go now My Father and dream of re-birth.
I shall be here to greet Thee on Your return."

With arms still out-stretched lower your head and close your eyes.
Contemplate what you have just spoken. When ready, open your eyes and lower
your arms. Pick up the apple and place it in the center of the
Pentacle/plate. Cut it crosswise with the Bolline, to reveal the natural
pentagram at it's core. Then lift half the apple, pentagram up, as if in
offering, while saying:

"As the Wheel turns, the seasons pass, and the years give 'way To the next,
Guide me most Wise Ones,
Lest I forget
Every beginning has an ending
And every ending is a new beginning."

Take a bite of the apple. Put the rest aside to share later with the
wildlife. Pick up the tree branch and shake once at each direction, starting
with North, saying:

"As the days grow colder, and the nights last longer,
May I remember the summer past.

With sunlight fading, and hearth inviting,
My memories will warm my soul.

From a season of hard work and hard play,
I hear Mother's voice calling me forward.

While I rest, shall She lull me, with songs of a dream,
As close to Her bosom I cling."

Face the alter and hold the branch out in front of you with both hands,
saying:

"With memories of the summer, least I never forget,
And aspirings for the colder months to come,
Least I never stop striving,
I honor Thee with this symbol of Nature,
Keeping it and Thee in my home and heart,
That I may see it and pause,
To reflect on the Ancient Mysteries,
Leading me to a better understanding of myself,
And of others, and all that is Life."

Put the tree branch on the alter, into the basket of fruit so that it sticks
out, back in your direction. Contemplate on the various memory symbols that
you have attached to it. Also contemplate on the various projects for autumn
and winter that you have attached to it. Close your eyes and feel the
seasons
pass within the circle from summer to autumn. When ready, say:

"Between the worlds I stand in this sacred place.
All time is here and now.
As I leave this circle, the season shall have changed,
And I will have changed with it.
May I use the short time of Winter Finding
To draw the strength and power from within
As I quest for vision, understanding, and peace."

Pick up the sprig(s) of ivy, and wrap around your arms, from the elbow to
the
wrist. Pick up the Bell with your right hand, and ring thrice, to toll the
passing of the first 3 seasons of the year. Now place it in your left hand
and ring once to usher in the 4th and last season of the year. Place the
bell
on the alter and the ivy in your cauldron (for burning later).

"In Life is Death, and in Death is Life.
The Sacred Dance goes on and on
From whence we came, we shall return,
And come again.
Seasons pass, and pass again,
The circle stays unbroken
Heed the words of your child, here,
Through Your wisdom I have spoken."

It is now time for meditation and spellworking. Associated spellworkings
would include those for protection, wealth, security, and self-confidence.
If
there is no spellworking, celebrate with Cakes and Ale, then release the
Circle. Clean up. You are done. Find an appropriate place in your home to
display the decorated tree branch.

*Find a fallen tree branch. It need not be a large one, for it will adorn
your alter, then go on display in your home. The more smaller offshoots from
the main branch, the better. Mine has four, which I think is awesome! Next,
take a couple of pine cones, small shells, dried flowers, or any other item
that reminds you of the late spring-summer months. With some string, tie
each
to the offshoots. Also take yarn or ribbon of yellows, oranges, reds, and
gold and tie one end to the offshoots. Then, on very thin strips of
(colored)
paper, write down some projects to work on during the upcoming ' dark '
months. Wrap these around the offshoots (like little cocoons) and tie closed
with silver thread. These you will open over the next couple of months when
you start feeling lethargic or without a sense of direction. I tie on a
couple of small bells, to add some ambiance to my ritual... >>

Autumn Healing
You can prepare this lovely spell container by working magick as a group, or as an individual working alone. You will need one dried, hollowed out gourd. Cut off the top. Place a picture of the person who needs healing energy in the gourd. (Two of our gourds were for the safe delivery of a baby.) If you already have a lot of magickal supplies (herbs, powders, oils, gems, etc.) sit quietly and think about the person. Ask your patron God or Goddess (or totem animal/guardian angel) to lead you in the right direction for what should be included in the healing gourd. Fill the gourd with empowered items thinking about the health of the individual. Add a few things that will make noise if you shake the gourd. When you are finished, seal the gourd by gluing the top back on. Paint the person's name on the gourd along with any magickal symbols or sigils that matches the individual's personality. If you don't have magickal supplies, you might want to get out your copy of Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Herbs. Tie dried flowers, herbs, charms, and amulets to a rawhide cord or silk cord around the neck of the gourd. When you give the gourd as a gift, shake it while you hand it to the person to activate the magick.
We made four gourds this past week. In healing circle we passed around the gourds and empowered them as a group. Here are some of the items we put in our gourds:
1. A picture of the person.
2. Rosemary - banishing negativity, healing. (dried)
3. Orange Peel - success. (dried)
4. Basil - helps herbs and items work in tandem.
5. One rose petal - love.
6. One penny (from each person working on the healing).
7. One cowry shell (clear vision.)
8. Cloves (protection).
9. Cinnamon (success).
10. Goddess statue or charm for each gourd.
11. Amber and jet beads for those who reached the rank of HPS.
12. Three drops of healing oil.
13. Three drops of success oil.
14. Three crystals.
You don't have to use these exact ingredients. They are only listed here to give you and idea of what we used. A bit of Orris Root will help the herbs retain their aroma.

Binding

Binding is a practical example of how a normally harmful and strictly "hands off" form of magick can be an effective and perfectly harmless magickal procedure.

If a friend wants to borrow something, and you feel hesitant in letting the object out of your hands, but you must, take the object (if it's something small enough to move around and hold) and a cord.

Bind the object to your body -- literally, physically tie the object to yourself. Stand or sit a few minutes, visualizing yourself receiving the object back from the person you are loaning it to.

Afterward, cut the cord (do not untie the knot!) and loan the object out, assured you'll once more have it in your possession.

If the object is too large, such as a car, take a piece of cord, tie your hand or arm to a piece of it (such as the steering wheel, antenna, and so on) and proceed as above.

Put the cord in a safe place until the object returns

THE BIRTHDAY RITUAL
To begin with you must choose something as a "marker" for the Pentagram. This should be something small and plentiful--every year you will add one more. I use peridots for my markers, but other items such as sea pearls, pebbles from the beach work well. You should keep in mind that this needs to be something that will stand the test of time. Plant products, such as resin (frankincense or myrrh), berries or seeds, are not a good choice.
You will also need 6 candles, one for each point of the pentagram. The pentagram is said to represent the human form; the top point is your head, the side points your arms and the bottom points your feet. In this ritual, the pentagram represents you. A candle is placed at each point and in the middle. The colour of the candle and how you bless it will depend on your wish (petition) for each point. The center candle is a general wish for the upcoming year. The top point represents what you wish to receive spiritually this year. The right side point of the pentagram (keep in mind that this will be to your left--the pentagram's right as it faces you) represents what you wish to receive this year on a material level and the left side point represents what you pledge to give this year on a material level. The right bottom point represents where you wish your path to lead and the left bottom point represents what you pledge to leave behind you as you go.
PERSONALIZING YOUR RITUAL: Take the time to plan each wish and each candle carefully. For each individual candle, I choose a specific God/Goddess and select 3 herbs, an oil, and a very small crystal appropriate to that particular God/Goddess as well as a petition to say for each one. By use tealight candles for this ritual, the candles can be popped out of their foil container and a pinch of each herb plus the crystal are placed beneath in the foil, the candle is anointed with oil and then returned to the foil. When done this way, the flame gives an extra burst of energy right before it goes out. This part can be personalized however you choose to express your wishes. The type of candle you use and what elements you wish to use for each point is entirely up to you.
SETTING UP: Use your markers to form the outline of the pentagram--how many you will have depends on how old you are. When determining how many you need, keep in mind that you are asking for the year ahead. For example, on your 32nd birthday, you will be making wishes for the 33rd year of your life; therefore you will need to use 33 markers. Set the markers out with the top point facing north, left is to the east and right is to the west in invoking direct--start at top to right bottom point to left side point to right side point to left bottom point and then back to top. Once you have laid out the markers, place you candles, petitions, offerings at the points.
THE RITUAL: To be performed solitary! Cleanse yourself and your area; call the directions; cast your circle; call upon the God/Goddess for their blessings in your own preferred fashion. Light the candles, staring with the center candle, then the top (be careful not to get burnt by the center candle, watch the robe sleeve), the right side, the left side, the right bottom and the left bottom. As you light each candle, state your petition (wish). Allow candle to burn completely (Candles should burn entirely on your birthday so make sure to start early and use smaller candles--not for 7 day candles). Close the ritual and allow the candles to remain burning. Once the candles have burnt out, retain the markers for next year and toss the crystals into a river.

Blessings for the Home
Sit Straight with palms on lap, take deep breaths, relax, and move into a mental space where you activate your intuitive senses. Imagine a cord of energy from your spine connecting you to the Earth, and channel energy from the Earth through it. Silently ask for divine protection, guidance, and blessing.
Direct your psychic sensing outward, and feel lines of force coming out of your aura. Note where the strongest energy is (check out the floor, ceiling, directions, etc). Note spots that feel empty or dead, note places that feel full alive, focus on where you are sitting and how you feel at that particular spot.
Imagine a sphere of light and love energy at your heart, feel it pulsing outward with every breath. Feel the radiance increase with every breath, feel your self as a star, continue to breathe deeply and send out the energy, letting it pulsate in the room. When ready, start making power sounds representing the love and light you are channeling; use it to amplify the light you are weaving; and fill the room with the energy. Then shift focus to sending a probe out into the room, and note the differences in the quality of energy and how you feel about it. Repeat if necessary, When done, feel the completeness of the work.
A room blessing involving elemental quarter invocations:
Face each direction (with arms out in appropriate elemental invoking gesture), and say, while channeling and visualizing elemental power: - Powers of (say direction), - Powers of (say corresponding element), - We great you, we honor you, we welcome you here! - Watch over and bless and protect this place. After each invocation, shape the energy into columns of light by sweeping ones arms together until they are parallel and sweeping them up and down while channeling and shaping the energy. When the energy is properly shaped, say so "mote it be."
After you have done all four quarters, channel in spirit energy.
To return the energy to a more mellow state while energizing yourself, put your hands out and take in a bit of the energy into your self from each direction, going widdershins, hold hands to your heart and take in the energy (techniques also exist for bringing it into a stone and retrieving it when needed).

Breaking A Curse

On the first night of the waxing moon, gather the following ingredients:
•a square of black cloth a little larger than your hand. •1 tablespoon
of curry •1 tablespoon of dill •1 tablespoon of vervain •1 tablespoon
powdered ginger •1 consecrated black candle •paper and black ink pen •1
black string, knotted nine times

On paper, write the full name and birthdate (if known) of the person who
has cursed you. Place the paper in the center of the bag. One at a time,
add the herbs, covering the slip of paper. Next, take the lit candle and
drip 5-10 drops of wax over the paper and herbs.

Visualize the person who has cursed you and say their name aloud three
times while tying the bag shut with the knotted string. The final step
is to bury the bag someplace on the property of the person who cursed
you. The bag must remain there undisturbed until the next waxing moon.
At that time, dig up the bag and burn the contents. This will weaken
that person's power (usually until the night of the full moon) and the
curse should then be broken.

Charge of the God

Listen the the words of the Great Father, who of old was called Osiris,
Adonis, Zeus, Thor, Pan, Cernunnos, Herne, Lugh and by many other
names:
My Law is Harmony with all things.
Mine is the secret that opens the gates of life and mine is the dish of salt of the
earth that is the body of Cernunnos that is the eternal circle of rebirth.
I give the knowledge of life everlasting, and beyond death I give the promise of
regeneration and renewal.
I am the sacrifice, the father of all things, and my protection blankets the earth.
Hear the words of the dancing God, the music of whose laughter stirs the
winds, whose voice calls the seasons:
I who am the Lord of the Hunt and the Power of the Light, sun among the clouds
and the secret of the flame
I call upon your bodies to arise and come unto me.
For I am the flesh of the earth and all its beings.
Thru me all things must die and with me are reborn.
Let my worship be in the body that sings, for behold all acts of willing sacrifice
are my rituals.
Let there be desire and fear, anger and weakness, joy and peace, awe and longing
within you.
For these too are part of the mysteries found within yourself, within me, all
beginnings have endings, and all endings have beginnings.

Charm for Courage

--You will need:--
jewelry item
musk or cedar oil

Obtain a piece of jewelry. Any sort will do as long as it is something that you like to wear frequently. Rub a bit of oil into the piece and chant:

I imbue you with courage, and bravery, and nerve,
I empower you with self-confidence, so you may serve
My needs when anxieties attempt to emerge
Eradicate them; let new confidence surge.

Wear the jewelry as needed.

Consecrating a Sword or Athame
Lay sword (or athame) on pentacle, preferably by, and touching, another,
consecrated, weapon. The man asperges them with consecrated salt and water,
whereupon the woman picks up the weapon to be consecrated and passes it through
the imcense smoke and replaces it on the pentacle. Both lay their right hands
upon the weapon and press down, saying:
Both: "I conjure thee, O Sword (Athame), by these Names, Abrahach, Abrach,
Abracadabra, that thou servest me for a strength and defence in all
magical operations against all mine enemies, visible and invisible.
I conjure thee anew by the Holy Name Aradia and by the Holy Name
Cernunnos; I conjure thee, O Sword (Athame), that thou servest me
for a protection in all adversities; so aid me now !"
Again the man asperges, and the woman censes, and the weapon is returned to
the pentacle, saying:
Both: "I conjure thee, O Sword (Athame) of Steel, by the Great Gods and
Gentle Goddesses, by the virtue of the heavens, of the stars
and of the spirits who preside over them, that thou mayest receive
such virtue that I may obtain the end I desire in all things
wherein I shall use thee, by the power of Aradia and Cernunnos."
The Partner gives the Fivefold kiss unto the owner of the weapon.
If the owner is not present, or if the weapon is jointly owned by them both,
the man will give the Fivefold kiss to the woman. For the final kiss upon
the mouth, the weapon is suspended between their breasts, held there by the
pressure of their embrace. As they seperate, the owner of the weapon
immediately uses it to recast the Circle, but without words.
Notes: If possible, lay sword with an already consecrated sword or athame.
It should, if possible, be consecrated by both a man and a woman, both of whom
are initiated, and both naked as drawn swords. During consecration, press down
on sword hard with consecrated sword or athame. If possible partake of Cakes
and Wine first, then Magus should sprinkle with water, Witch should cense in
First Conjuration, then sprinkle and cense and conjure again with Second
Conjuration. If true sword and athame are available, a sword and athame can be
consecrated at the same time in which case Magus should press with sword on
sword, and Witch with athame on athame, and new sword and athame should touch.
In any case, when finished the weapon should be handed to new owner with
Fivefold Salute, and should be pressed against the body for a time to get the
aura; and it should be in as close connection as possible to the naked body for
at least a month, i.e. kept under pillow, etc. Do not allow anyone to touch or
handle any of your tools until thoroughly impregnated with your aura; say six
months or as near as possible. But a pair working together may own the same
tools, which will be impregnated with the aura of both.

Goddess Rhiannon

Consecrating Other Working Tools
Place tool on pentacle, and lay right hand(s) on it, saying:
"Aradia and Cernunnos, deign to bless and to consecrate this
White-Hilted knife (or whatever) that it may obtain the necessary
virtue through you for all acts of love and beauty."
Magus sprinkles, Witch censes. Then say:
"Aradia and Cernunnos, bless this instrument prepared in your honour."
(if Scourge or Cords, add "... that it may serve for a good cause and
end and for your glory.")
Again Magus sprinkles and Witch censes. (Hand tool to new owner as you
would a sword or athame, with a Fivefold Salute.)
All these weapons should be presented to the new owner with Salute. If
a Witch Queen, the downward pointing triangle as in the first Degree
Initiation. End ceremony with Fivefold Salute. The new owner
should immediately use the new instruments, i.e. form Circle with Sword,
then Athame, incise something with White-Handled knife, exhibit Pentacle to
Four Quarters, cense to Four Quarters, use Cords and Scourge; and should
continue to use all of them in a Circle as often as possible, for some
time.
To mark out a new Circle, stick sword or athame in ground, make a loop in
cord, and slip over; then, using cord, mark out a circle, and later mark it
with point of sword or athame. Always renew the Circle with sword or athame
when about to use, but have it marked so that you always retrace it in same
place. Remember the Circle is a protection, a guard against evil influences,
and to prevent power created from dispersing; but the Witch, not being evil,
may enter and leave freely. But in Art Magic, it is a barrier against forces
raised, and when once in the Magus may not leave without great danger. If any
great danger is manifested it would be advisable to take refuge in the Circle;
but ordinarily sword or athame in hand is perfect protection against anything.
Those who make these tools must be purified, clean and properly prepared. When
not in use, all tools and weapons should be put away in a secret place; and it
is good that this should be near your sleeping place, and that you handle them
each night before retiring.

Cord Magick

For this you will need a cord, or cingulum as it is sometimes called, that is nine feet long
(three times three; the perennial magick number) and is the colour
appropriate to the magickal working. It is best to make your own by
taking three lengths of red silk (or wool, nylon, whatever you prefer -
though natural materials are preferred) and yourself plaiting them into
one. As you plait, concentrate on putting yourself - your energies into
it so that it becomes another part of you. Like your Athame, no one
else should ever use your cord but you. Tie a knot in each end to keep
it from unraveling. Make sure it is nine feet long.
Consecrate the cord, when done. Some traditions use their cords
tied about their robes and wear them all the time at Circles.

One magickal use of the cord is as a "storage cell" for the
power. Rather than dancing around and working as a group, the coven
will work as individuals, sitting and chanting, holding the cord in hand.
As the power starts to build, each covener will - taking his/her own time and ignoring, or
mentally separating him/herself from the others - pause from time to
time to tie a knot in his/her cord. The first knot is tied at one end,
with the words "By knot of one, the spell's begun." S/He will then go
back to chanting - oftimes swaying from side to side, or back and forth
- until s/he feels it is time to tie another knot. This is tied in the
opposite end with the words: "By knot of two, it cometh true". Then
back to the chanting. As s/he chants, s/he also pictures what s/he
wants...s/he "takes aim". So it goes on; chanting and picturing, then
tying a knot. As the power builds, more knots are tied until there are
nine knots in the cord. They are tied in a particular pattern and with
appropriate words. The first knot, is tied at one end;
the second at the other end. The third is tied in the middle. The
forth is halfway between the first and third; the fifth halfway between
the second and third. Here is the pattern of tying, together with the
appropriate words:

By knot of ONE, the spell's begun *--------
By knot of TWO, it cometh true *-------*
By knot of THREE, so mote it be *---*---*
By knot of FOUR, this power I store *-*-*---*
By knot of FIVE, the spell's alive *-*-*-*-*
By knot of SIX, this spell I fix ***-*-*-*
By knot of SEVEN, events I'll leaven ***-*-***
By knot of EIGHT, it will be Fate *****-***
By knot of NINE, what's done is mine *********

At the tying of the last (ninth) knot, all the energy is directed
into the cord and its knots, with a final visualization of the object of
the work. The power has been raised and is now "stored" in these knots
in the cord.
Why would you want to store a spell? For some magick, the time for
it to happen is important. Suppose, for example, that you want
something constructive to happen but the most propitious time for it to
do so happens to be close to the New Moon. Do you do your constructive
magick during the Waxing Moon? No. You do it early on, at the Full
Moon, using a cord.
Now the power is there, properly raised, but stored for use.
You have nine knots. Although they are all tied in one ritual,
these must be released one at a time - one a day - for nine consecutive
days. Release them in the same order in which they were tied, NOT the
reverse order. In other words, on the first day untie the knot that was
first tied (to know which end you started with, when making the cord,
braid in a small wooden bead at one end and always start with this end);
on the second day, the second knot tied; and so on. In this fashion,
the last knot untied, on the ninth day, is the ninth knot that was tied
at the climax of the tying ritual - the time of greatest power. Each
day, before you actually untie, do your concentration on what is to
happen, rocking and again building power. Then, as you release the
knot, release the power also with a shout.

Cross our Paths Spell
Ingredients:
Yellow candles
Yellow or white thread
Needle
Picture of yourself
Picture of intended
Magnet or lodestone
On a night during the Waxing Moon, and preferably when the moon is in
the phase of Gemini (for communication) gather the above ingredients and
go to a place where you can be alone for at least 30 minutes.
Light the candles and hold the pictures within your hands and chant this
charm:
Image of me, Image of thee,
Coming together, forming three.
As you say this, cut the images so the two of you are not part of the
origional photos any longer. The pictures are then to be sewn together
with the needle and thread. The new photo is then to be placed on your
alter, and atop should be placed a lodestone or magnet to draw the two
of you together.
On the Full Moon of that month, light a yellow candle and place the
charm underneath the candle to work your magick. Say this to release the
spell:
A picture of you, a picture of me,
A picture of us, together shall be.
Come, if you will, to be with me,
This is my will, so mote it be.
Now that the magickal part of this scheme is done, you must work the
mundane part. Write or call him and ask to meet him. If he says that he
is too busy or what have you, try again another time. This spell is not
meant to force the person to do anything they aren't willing to do. Just
let them know that your offer is always open.

Daily Spiritual Prayer

(Taken from “To Light a Sacred Flame” by Silver Raven Wolf)

Items needed: 1 White candle and yourself

Hold the candle in your hands and envision positive success and power coming into your life. Ground and Center (you know, take a deep breath, feel yourself relax, and your inner self stabilize) As you light the candle say the following:

GREAT MOTHER, HELP ME TO OPEN THE PATHWAYS TO MY SUCCESS. GREAT FATHER, ASSIST ME TO REMOVE ANY BLOCKS THAT STAND BETWEEN MYSELF AND MY GOALS. THANK YOU FOR MY PROTECTION AND THE GIFT OF FOCUS. THANK YOU FOR THE SUCCESSES I HAVE HAD BEFORE, AND THE SUCCESSES THAT I KNOW I AM GOING TO ACHIEVE. THANK YOU BOTH FOR MY SUCCESS. WITH HARM TO NONE. SO MOTE IT BE!!

Stand back from the candle, then stretch your arms out in front of you, a little above your head, palms facing outward. Envision abundance and white light surrounding you. Ground and center if you feel jumpy. If your candle is still burning you can allow it to burn out or you can put it out and relight it each day for the prayer. When the candle can no longer be lit bury it in your backyard.

Daisy Chain Spell To Bring Joy Into Your Life

To bring joy back into your life, pick a bunch of daisies. Shorten the stems to approximately 3 inches in length. With your fingernail, cut a small slit halfway down the stem of one flower and insert the next flower into the hole. Repeat the process until you have a daisy chain. While you work, chant:

Daisy, happy little flower,
Lend your joy to me this hour.
Bring your mirth into this band
As I chain you with my hands.

When the chain is long enough to slip easily over your head, securely tie the first and last stems together. Place the chain around your neck and say:

Daisy chain, once flowers free,
Bring wildest joy now unto me.
Bless me with gaiety and mirth
As I live upon the Earth.
And as you dry in heat and air
Take with you my worries and cares.

Wear the chain for the rest of the day, then hang it up to dry.

DARK FARIES

There are a number of Little Ones who can be considered Dark Faries. These
are the entities who are primarily connected with the Earth. Sometimes they
are called Dark simply because they like to live in dark places such as
under
stairs and in basements, not because they are evil.

The Coblynau of Wales are mine spirits who knock where rich ones can be
found. The Knockers from Cornwall (also called Buccas) are like the
Coblynau
of Wales. The Gnomes are Earth Elementals, who live underground and guard
the treasures of the Earth; they are also wonderful metal workers,
especially
of swords.

Goblins or Hobgoblins originally were not the nasty, evil creatures
portrayed
today; they were a small, grotesque but friendly type of brownie. The Bwca
or Bwbachod of Wales is also a type of brownie. The Brownie himself (called
Bodach in Scotland, Fenodoree in Manx, and Pixies or Pisgies in West
England)
dresses in brown clothing and makes himself responsible for the house where
he lives; unless offended, he is an amiable little creature.

Dark Evles and Faeries of the Unseelie Court can be unfavorable to humans.
They have had good reason not to trust us. They often shelter in dark
areas,
under stairs, or in the attic or basement. Ordinarily, the most they do to
humans is make them feel very uncomfortable in their inhabited areas.
Sometimes they were called the Sluagh or Host.

Dwarves are probably the best known of the Dark entities. They are not the
stupid, silly creatures portrayed by Disney, but keepers of the Earth, its
minerals, and gems. They are marvelous workers in metal: swords, magickal
items, jewelry, etc. One should not take things from their kingdom without
asking their permission.

Rather than being frightened of these entities, you would be wise to
cultivate their friendship. Those dwelling within your house will protect
and bless it if you are their friend. Those who dwell outside or in the
ground (and they are everywhere!) will bless your property, making the
plants
and trees grow better and once in a while allowing you to turn up some stone
or other treasure that will help you in your magickal work.

Gnomes and dwarves like a clear dark green color or a rich brown. You can
entice them to your altar with candles of these colors. Also use pyrite
(fool's gold) and steel or iron. Spicy scents, such as ginger and cinnamon,
draw their attention.

Elves like the colors of silver, light green, or light blue. They are fond
of ginger, lily of the valley, fir, and floral scents. You can attract them
by laying out silver, quartz, rock crystal, and moonstone.

All of these Dark Faeries or beings are attracted to ginger, honey, and
milk,
as well as by rock crystal. If you call them to participate in a ritual,
keep it light and full of fun. They like happy music and dancing.

To commune with these Dark Faeries and creatures, set out a little ginger
beside some crystals. Light Earth-colored or the appropriate candles. Have
cookies and juice for a party. Chant:

Little Ones, from dark places shady,
Come to me, both Lord and Lady,
Dressed in magick clothes and flowers,
Teach me in the twilight hours.
As the clouds flow past the Moon,
Sing to me an eldritch tune.
Whisper magick of the land,
Mushroom ring and wooded strand.
Keep this home a happy place,
Of merry heart and smiling face.
Welcome here, you are to me.
Let us be friends happily.

Now is the time to sing and dance and be merry. Share the cookies and juice
with them. Leave the ginger and crystals on the altar overnight.

Divination Spell
Best Time: Waxing Moon
Fill a cauldron half-full of water and place it on a table where you can see comfortably into it while seated. Light 2 purple candles and a good divination incense; a combination of mugwort and wormwood work well. Arrange the candles so their light does not shine into the water in your eyes. Focus your attention on the bottom of the cauldron, your hands placed lightly on either side. Breathe gently into the water and say:
Cauldron, reveal to me that which I seek
Great Mother, open my inner eye that I may truly see.
Empty your mind as much as possible; remian relaxed while looking deep into the cauldron waters. The answer may come in images in the water, pictures in your mind and strong bursts of "knowing".

Domestic Magic for Money

In parts of the United States, copper coins are kept in a copper pitcher in
the kitchen to attract money to the houshold. Another popular US money
ritual involves placing a large stone either on the hearth or near your
stove and leaving it for exactly a year to ensure the money will flow in

A variation which can be adapted to the smallest kitchens involves placing
a flat stone on a metallic dish near the stove or microwave. Each week, put
a small coin to form a circle around the stone. As you do so, light a
small, flat, scented candle on top of the stone in a small holder. Choose
yellow or orange for money, scented with one of the money fragrances, such
as cedarwood, cinnamon or orange. See the smoke and flame of the cnadle
warming and incubating your money and let the candle burn out naturally.

Everytime you use your stove or microwave, visualise the heat expanding
your money. Tell family and friends not to borrow the coins. Each time you
light the candle or stove, see your financial prospects improving and your
efforts bearing fruit.

Once the circle is complete, use the money to buy a present for someone who
is sad or if there is no one, put it in a charity collecting box. Money
should flow in naturally, providing you do not wait for magic to solve your
problems. You may find a new source of income or a money spinning idea come
as soon as you have spent your magickal money. Place the stone where
someone else may find it and use it.

DRAWING DOWN THE MOON

In this ritual the Goddess becomes incarnate in the High Priestess. The High Priestess stands in front of the altar with her back to it. She holds the wand in her right hand and the scrounge in her left. She crosses her wrists and crosses the wand and scrounge above them while holding them close to her breast. The High Priest stands in front of her and says:

"Diana, queen of night
In all your beauty bright,
Shine on us here,
And with your silver beam
Unlock the gates of dream;
Rise bright and clear.
On Earth and sky and sea,
Your magic mystery
Its spell shall cast,
Wherever leaf may grow,
Wherever tide may flow,
Till all be past.
O secret queen of power,
At this enchanted hour
We ask your boon.
May fortune's favor fall
Upon true witches all,
O Lady Moon!"

The High Priest kneels before the High Priestess and gives herthe Five Fold Kiss; that is, he kisses her on both feet, both knees, womb, both breasts, and the lips, starting with the right of each pair. He says, as he does this:

"Blessed be thy feet, that have brought thee in these ways.
Blessed be thy knees, that shall kneel at the sacred altar.
Blessed be thy womb, without which we would not be.
Blessed be thy breasts, formed in beauty.
Blessed be thy lips, that shall utter the Sacred Names."

For the kiss on the lips, they embrace, length to length, with their feet touching each others. When he reaches the womb, she spreads her arms wide, and the same after the kiss on the lips. The High Priest kneels again and invokes:

"I invoke thee and call upon thee, Mighty Mother of us all,
bringer of all fruitfulness; by seed and root,
by bud and stem, by leaf and flower and fruit,
by life and love do I invoke thee to descend upon the body of this,
thy servant and priestess."

During this invocation he touches her with his right forefinger on her right breast, left breast, and womb, repeats the set and finally the right breast. Still kneeling, he spreads his arms out and down, with the palms forward and says:

"Hail Aradia! From the Amalthean Horn
Pour forth thy store of love; I lowly bend
Before thee, I adore thee to the end,
With loving sacrifice thy shrine adore.
Thy foot is to my lip
(he kisses her right foot)
my prayer up borne
Upon the rising incense smoke; then spend
Thine ancient love, O Mighty One, descend
To aid me, who without thee am forlorn."

The High Priest stands up and steps backwards. The HighPriestess draws the Invoking Pentagram of Earth in the air with the wand and says:

"Of the Mother darksome and divine
Mine the scrounge, and mine the kiss;
The five point star of love and bliss
Here I charge you in this sign."

The High Priestess should be in a trance now. This is a good time to do the Charge or the Witches' Creed.

When the Charge or Creed is finished, the Goddess must be dismissed. It is bad magical practice not to do so.

The High Priest faces the Priestess and says:

"We thank you Our Lady for attending our rites. We bid you farewell till
next we call you. Blessed Be."

Dream Protection Spell
This is something I wrote when someone put a spell on me to use my own thoughts against me. This spell reversed that one! (author)
Tools:
1 tablespoon of lemon juice (or another fruit juice)
1 tablespoon of sea salt
1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
1 light weight cauldron (a glass bowl works too)
1 piece of paper
1 black pen
2 black or red candles (1 of each works best)
Mix the lemon juice, sea salt, and oil into your cauldron. Place the cauldron in front of you on the floor. Sit comfortably and place the candles beside the cauldron (red on left, black on right.) Rip the piece of paper in half then set it aside.
Light both candles, left one first. Now close your eyes and visualize a sphere. In the middle of the sphere, visualize yourself stuck inside, trying to get out. See the black and red candles burning around you. Watch as the candles spin around you, getting faster each time they pass. Then see yourself magically being released. On one piece of paper, draw a picture of what you saw. On the other, write down your biggest fear. Light both pieces of paper on fire, using the black for the written half, red for the drawing. Then throw them into your cauldron. Take the cauldron outside and pour it (paper and all) into a hole in the ground. Cover the hole with dirt. The spell is done.

Fertility formula spell

Fertility magic helps up create the energy necessary
to welcome a new life, even if a child is not born to
the couple but adopted.

The week before enacting this spell, rest more, eat
well, and begin making room and time for a child in
your life. Through this week, follow the Italian
custom of eating one consecrated apple per day to
increase fertility. To bless the apple, say:
Great Spirit, bless this fruit
That our union might also be fruitful

On the last day of the week, have a quiet, romantic,
tender time together. Light a yellow candle near the
bed (representing creativity). As you make love,
visualize the cresting energy directed toward the
woman's womb or any documents associated with an
adoption. Let the candle burn completely out, but
save the wax.

Soften the wax remains in a microwave or on the stove
and fashion it into the rough likeness of a baby.
Swaddle it in warm, white cloth to protect your magic
until it manifests.

Do you, If (girl's name) is awake,
Stir her and shake her and make her rise,
And take her breath and her soul and bring them here,

LOVE ME FOREVER SPELL
Needed: A two-foot strand of fresh cut ivy and a small stick cut from an oak
tree, both cut when the moon is waxing (getting bigger). You'll also need
two previously worn 'love items'; one yours, one his.
On a special day, at noon, tie the two items together with the stick in the
middle of them by wrapping some of the ivy about the items and saying:
YOU BOUND TO ME AND I TO THEE WE TWO SEEDS ARE NOW ONE TREE NOW AND FOREVER
SO MAY IT BE!
Hide the bundle under your bed until midnight, then take it out again and
finish wrapping the bundle completely, saying:
I BOUND TO THEE AND YOU TO ME TOGETHER DIVINE WE ARE ONE VINE NOW AND
FOREVER SO MAY IT BE!
Keep the bundle under your bed and make love as soon as possible. When you
do so, visualize yourselves as two vines or trees growing together. Later,

Gather:
a magnolia petal
some grass blades
some water
dry milk
an object that represents your problem
and some black candle wax

Combine all this, while dropping the candle wax into the potion. Melt the

Freezer Binding Spell

I've heard variations of this from several sources, one of them a woman whose mother used this charm against her daughter's boyfriends if she didn't like them! It's best done just after the Full Moon, or at least while the moon is waning, and in my experience at least, needs to be renewed every month or when the person starts bothering you again.

Write the name of the person you wish to prevent from harming you on a piece of paper. Gaze at the paper and visualize the face of the person in question; see their face vividly imprinted on the paper. Then, fold the paper three times. Tie it up with black thread or string, and put into a small watertight container (baby food jars are ideal). Fill the container with water, and place in a nook of the freezer where it's unlikely to be disturbed, saying 'Stay there and freeze as long as I please'.

GardenSpells

Of Fairies, Spellweaving, and the Angel of the Garden.

Precious Stones:

If you can manage to procure rough chippings of precious and semi-precious
stones, then do not be afraid of burying them in your flowerbeds, for the
stones of the earth, even the rocks and pebbles, are alive and quickened with
spirit, and their heartbeat can be sensed by the wise and the knowing. Gods
and spirits of great beauty dwell within the inner magical world of precious
stones, and the place where they are buried will produce harbours of peace
and goodness, where flowers will grow and absorb special vibrations from the
crystals. These flowers may then be cut for the house so that they might
impart their influences, strengthened by the abundant graces which precious
stones enshrine. Murmur this rune as you bury the stones:
'Gods and fairies in these stones,
Shine forth amidst Earth's soil and bones;
Let your essence bless these flowers
That their hues might wear your powers.'

Fairy Dreams:

A number of flowers there are which it is said the fairies bring into our
dreams, so that we may guess something of our future and the destiny of our
souls:
Clover: A happy and prosperous marriage; May-blossom: A new lover; Marigold:
Coming wealth; Periwinkle: A spirit watches over you; Lilac: Luck in love;
Lily: Good luck; Honesty: Money-luck; Nutmeg: A change for the better; Rose:
Your heart's desire will come to you; Myrtle blossom: A wedding; Apple
blossom: A birth; Rosebuds: Many blessings; Rosemary: Everlasting love will
be yours; Sage: You will marry; Windflower: Your love is untrue, seek
another; Poppy: A message; Bluebell: A stormy and passionate love affair is
foretold; Buttercup: Business success; Carnation: A secret admirer; Crocus:
Danger in love; Primrose: A sweet new friendship; Snowdrop: You will have
secrets to share; Iris: A letter; Forget-me-not: Find a new love;
Honeysuckle: Tears and smiles; Geranium: A soon-mended quarrel; Peony: You
must grasp opportunity; Violet: Your spouse will be younger than yourself;
Daffodil: You are neglecting a friendship-make amends.

GardenSpells 2

Of Fairies, Spellweaving, and the Angel of the Garden.

The Zodiac and the Moon:

The moon traces her path through the zodiac once each month. She is the
mistress of physical form, of bodies, and her creative powers are drawn from
the magical influences of the stars and planets, and from the inspiration of
the particular sign of the zodiac through which she is passing. She spends
two-and-a-half days (or thereabouts) in the grand star-court of each zodiacal
sign.
The moon especially is queen of the ocean, of bodies of water, and her waxing
and waning must be taken account of by the wise gardener. Harvest your
vegetables and fruits just after the full moon, when its first diminishment
is still barely visible. Let your planting be done at eventide in a waning
moon, for then water will run to the roots. Sow seeds during the time of the
waxing moon, one day after the new moon's crescent has smiled in the skies.
Prune two days after the new moon when you wish more growth; if you desire
less, prune in the wane of the moon. To follow this counsel best, you must
procure a good almanac. Then you will be able to note also the sign of the
zodiac through which the moon is passing.
Choose air and fire signs for contemplation and meditation in the garden.
During air days, concentrate most particularly on communicating with the
spirits of the trees, the inner essence of the flowers, the fairies and the
elves. Make joyful contact with the sylphs of the air, for they will keep
you in good humour, and bring laughter to your heart. Stake climbers in air
days, and sow flowers. Sow ramblers in Gemini, and flowers in Libra. In
Aquarius, meditate upon the brotherhood of all life as it is expressed in the
garden: human, soil, water, trees, flowers, moon, stars, stones, skies and
the fiery sun are all one brotherhood. Feel the presence of fairies and
angels within the glorious scheme of this mystic brotherhood. During
Aquarius, if the weather is fine, sleep for a little beneath the boughs of a
tree, and let the spirit of the tree speak to you in your dreams.
Fire days are for spell-weaving. Heal and bless your garden, and chant your
runes. Sow plants in Aries so that their growth is fulsome; for burgeoning
growth and height, sow in Sagittarius. Leo is often too hot, so spend these
days designing and planning.
Water days are for wet work, so water well and plant at this time. Sow during
the water signs, but never harvest in Pisces, for your fruits and vegetables
will rot away quickly. Vegetables are best harvested in Aries, and fruit in
Taurus. Harvest in the last quarter of the moon, when it is in decline, if
the fruit is to be kept, for then the juices will be less than in the
penultimate quarter. For sweet leaves and succulent fruit, sow on water days,
but remember that anything sown or harvested in Pisces cannot be preserved.
Earth signs are for wholesome toil, for spadework and sowing, thinning and
transplanting. Weed in Virgo, feed in Capricorn in a waning moon (watery
Scorpio is also a good time to feed), and plant potatoes, corns and bulbs in
a waning moon also, upon the earth days. Gather seed in the last quarter of
the moon, in Taurus or Capricorn. Herbal sprays for pest control are best
administered in Virgo. Any vegetable that is hot on the tongue is best
harvested in Scorpio or Leo.
Earth days are also efficacious in promoting communication with the fairies.
If it rains upon a water day, go out into the garden and enjoy the company of
the undines, the water fairies, as they laugh and tumble in the drops. It
will take the dreariness of the rain away. When you light a fire to consume
garden rubbish, think of the salamanders, the fire-folk, dancing in the
flames. It is good to light a fire often in the lingering summer dusk, and
watch beside it whilst the stars come out.
Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Fire signs: Leo, Aries, Sagittarius
Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Air signs: Aquarius, Libra, Gemini

Gay mens love spell

"Love Magic"
You will need:
coriander
dragon's blood
mandrake root
yarrow
one white, one black, and one pink candle
love potion (or oil)
parchment paper
incense burner
ash pot

Write the following spell on the parchment:
Flame of love, burn strong and bright,

Getting a Job 2

Before you go to your job interview, you will need a green candle, a
banknote, and a paperclip.

Light the candle and show both sides of the banknote to the flame.
Fasten the note to the back of a photograph of yourself. Blow out the
candle.

Carry your photo, with the note attached, in your handbag or wallet
during your interview.

Herbal charms kept in your pocket or purse are good ways to carry magick with
you during interviews or while job seeking. Sprinkle a little sage, lavendar,
dill, basil
and parsley into a green cloth and add a tigers eye chip or small stone. Tie
with a golden ribbon. Carry this to magnetize prosperity while yo radiate
wisdom and
knowledge.

Take applications home with you whenever possible. After you have filled them
out, raise energy and charge then with the intent of drawing the right
job/position to
you.

Draw or paint the runes Ansuz, Tir and Mannaz over your heart with a non-toxic
marker (or eyeliner even) before you get dressed to go to an interview. Allow
to
dry first before dressing (of course) and perhaps put a light shirt or slip
between your clothes and skin. [I would even say that you could create a
talisman with these
runes instead of drawing them on yourself and carry that close to your heart
or wear in a pouch if you chose.] These runes enable clear communications and
will
encourage others to come to your aid. These runes also, when drawn on the
phone, will invite good news to come over the wire

Ceridwen
Moon Goddess; Great Mother; grain Goddess; Goddess of Nature.

The white corpse-eating sow represnting the Moon. Welsh bards called themselves Cerddorion (sons of Cerridwen). The bard Taliesin, founder of their craft, was said to be born of Cerridwen and to have tasted a potent from her magick cauldron of inspiration.

Wife of the giant Tegid and mother of a beautiful girl Creirwy and an ugly boy Avagdu. In her magickal cauldron, she made a potion called greal ( from which the word Grail probably came from). The potion was made from six plants for inspiration and knowedge.

Good Luck Spell

It's best to perform this one while the moon is waxing. For this spell you'll need a candle to represent yourself in whatever colour you think appropriate, a grey candle, a black candle and an orange candle.

Light the candle that represents yourself and say: 'This is me, me in all things'.

Light the black candle and say: 'This is all the bad luck that has dragged my footsteps. Trouble, disappointments and tears are here. This bad luck now leaves me forever'.

Light the grey candle and say: 'All that was bad is neutralised. All my bad luck is dissolved'.

Light the orange candle and say: 'This is the energy coming my way, to get my life moving and speed up the change'.

Sit quietly for a while and visualise the negative energies being whisked into the grey candle and dissolved into empty nothingness. Visualise the orange candle drawing good energy and good luck towards you, see the air stirring about with possibilities and opportunities. Let the candles burn down completely (take the usual safety precautions).

grounding shields

Y'know as long as this imperfect world contains in it pain that is
truly caused to us by other people - like rape, child abuse, nasty
bosses, and other things not as drastic but similarly caused by
particular other humans - it is therapeutically good for people to have
some way to "harmlessly" release their anger. Rage bottled up may turn
inward and become ulcers, heart disease and other stress-related
illness. Or it may turn outward as sudden, irrational bursts of
violence. This, for example, is what the posters that say "child abuse
is a family tradition" mean. So shrinks ask their clients to define a
cushion as their father and kick it around the room. One person dear to
me broke a bone in his foot doing just that - but before the session he
had no memory earlier than his 16th year, and after the catharsis he did.

But I'm a trained Witch, and for me to call a pillow my father and
kick it would be baneful magic. So what do I do, engage in magical
practices I believe to be wrong, or eat out my gut? Neither.

This is the procedure:
1) Cast your Circle as usual
2) Then place a grounding shield WITHIN your Circle, like the membrane
just inside the eggshell. You can use the visualization I shared
yesterday for the shield or anything at all else that works for you.
3) Invoke Grandmother Earth into the Circle, and ask Her to take the
energy to be released there, cleanse it, and recycle it to wherever it
is most needed. Do not tell Her where.
4) Let the healee do whatever cathartic procedure seems appropriate.
Sometimes simply yelling and screaming will do it. But, in this context,
even destroying a recognizable image of the person who has done the harm
is safe and OK. When the healee has finished releasing the poison s/he
will feel drained and empty.
5) Then invoke the Maiden Earth, to fill the newly created space with
fragrant, green energy that will welcome and nurture new and beautiful
growth in the healee.
6) Thank everybody.
7) Specifically let the grounding shield itself melt into the ground.
8) Close the Circle as usual.

On further reflection, maybe #7 should be moved to between #4 and #5,
y'know like fully dispose of the yuckies before bringing in the yummies.
Anyhow, this solves a problem that's been worrying me for a long time
about finding release for feelings it's not right to release into magic.
Whaddya think? warmly / Judy

HALLOWEEN CHANT

This chant can be outdoors around a bonfire or inside around an extra large altar candle.

Fire red, summer's dead,
Yet shall it return.
Clear and bright in the night,
Burn, fire, burn!

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.

Fire glow, vision show
Of the heart's desire,
When the spell's chanted well
Of the witching fire.

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.

Fire spark, when nights are dark,
Makes our winter's mirth.
Red leaves fall, earth takes all,
Brings them to rebirth.

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.

Fire fair, earth and air,
And the heaven's rain,
And blessed be, and so may we,
At Hallowstide again.

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.

[The following wedding ceremony was written to provide for Pagans
who must of necessity be wed in the presence of the uninitiated
who are not pagan and are perhaps unaware that the bride and
groom are pagan. Replace the words Bride and Groom below with the
names of the happy couple. This ceremony was used by both my wife
and myself and by my sister and her husband. They modified the
text at the point below where it says "loving each other wholly
and completely" to add the phrase "forsaking all others" as they
are into monogamy. Either version works beautifully, I recommend
the participants rewrite where necessary to form a legal contract
that they can and will keep. It is easy to avoid being an
oathbreaker if you only swear to that that you will keep and
avoid swearing to something just because the other party wants it
or because it might be "expected" by the family. Notice: parts of
this ritual were cribbed from the writings of others. I apologise
in advance for failure to reference sources but after the
fifteenth rewrite we had forgotten where we got the text and what
was and what was not original to us. I doubt if there are quotes
from other sources longer than paragraph length and thus should
not be a copyright problem. If you see something that is yours,
please send me mail and I will reference you in the future. Our
thanks to those who paved the way. --Ryan Hunter]

[PRIEST] We have come together here in celebration of the joining
together of ____bride______ and ____groom______. There are many
things to say about marriage. Much wisdom concerning the joining
together of two souls, has come our way through all paths of
belief, and from many cultures. With each union, more knowledge
is gained and more wisdom gathered. Though we are unable to give
all this knowledge to these two, who stand before us, we can hope
to leave with them the knowledge of love and its strengths and
the anticipation of the wisdom that comes with time. The law of
life is love unto all beings. Without love, life is nothing,
without love, death has no redemtion. Love is anterior to Life,
posterior to Death, initial of Creation and the exponent of
Earth. If we learn no more in life, let it be this.

Marriage is a bond to be entered into only after considerable
thought and reflection. As with any aspect of life, it has its
cycles, its ups and its downs, its trials and its triumphs. With
full understanding of this, Groom and Bride have come here today
to be joined as one in marriage.

Others would ask, at this time, who gives the bride in marriage,
but, as a woman is not property to be bought and sold, given and
taken, I ask simply if she comes of her own will and if she has
her family's blessing.

Bride, is it true that you come of your own free will and
accord?

[BRIDE] Yes, it is true.

[PRIEST] With whom do you come and whose blessings accompany you.

[FATHER] She comes with me, her father, and is accompanied by all
of her family's blessings.

[PRIEST] Please join hands with your betrothed and listen to that
which I am about to say.

Above you are the stars, below you are the stones, as time doth
pass, remember...

Like a stone should your love be firm like a star should your
love be constant. Let the powers of the mind and of the intellect
guide you in your marriage, let the strength of your wills bind
you together, let the power of love and desire make you happy,
and the strength of your dedication make you inseparable. Be
close, but not too close. Possess one another, yet be
understanding. Have patience with one another, for storms will
come, but they will pass quickly.

Be free in giving affection and warmth. Have no fear and let not
the ways of the unenlightened give you unease, for God is with
you always.

Groom, I have not the right to bind thee to Bride, only you have
this right. If it be your wish, say so at this time and place
your ring in her hand.

[GROOM] It is my wish.

[PRIEST] Bride, if it be your wish for Groom to be bound to
you, place the ring on his finger. (places ring on Groom's left
ring finger)

Bride I have not the right to bind thee to Groom only you have
this right. If it be your wish, say so at this time and place
your ring in his hand.

[BRIDE] It is my wish.

[PRIEST] Groom, if it be your wish for Bride to be bound to you,
place the ring on her finger.(places ring on Bride's left
ring finger)

(to Groom) Repeat after me:

I, (grooms full name), in the name of the spirit of God that
resides within us all, by the life that courses within my blood
and the love that resides within my heart, take thee (bride's
full name) to my hand, my heart, and my spirit, to be my
chosen one. To desire thee and be desired by thee, to possess
thee, and be possessed by thee, without sin or shame, for naught
can exist in the purity of my love for thee. I promise to love
thee wholly and completely without restraint, in sickness and in
health, in plenty and in poverty, in life and beyond, where we
shall meet, remember, and love again. I shall not seek to change
thee in any way. I shall respect thee, thy beliefs, thy people,
and thy ways as I respect myself.

(to Bride)
I (bride's full name), in the name of the spirit of God that
resides within us all, by the life that courses within my
blood, and the love that resides within my heart, take thee,
(Groom's full name) to my hand, my heart, and my spirit to be
my chosen one. To desire and be desired by thee, to possess
thee, and be possessed by thee, without sin or shame, for naught
can exist in the purity of my love for thee. I promise to love

health, in plenty and in poverty, in life and beyond, where we
shall meet, remember, and love again. I shall not seek to change
thee in any way. I shall respect thee, thy beliefs, thy people,
and thy ways as I respect myself.

[PRIEST]
(hands chalice to the groom, saying:) May you drink your fill
from the cup of love.

(Groom holds chalice to bride while she sips then bride takes
chalice and holds it to groom while he sips. The chalice is then
handed back to the Priest who sets it on the table. Next the
Priest takes the plate of bread, giving it to the groom. Same
procedure repeated with bread, groom feeding bride and bride
feeding groom.)

By the power vested in me by God and the State of Alabama, I now
pronounce you husband and wife. May your love so endure that its
flame remains a guiding light unto you.

Sean, I hope this helps. We really loved it. BTW, to all concerned,
after severe problems, Fawn and I have rededicated ourselves to making
our marriage happy and productive. Thanks to excellent counselling and a
genuine desire on both our parts to succeed in our relationship, we have
weathered (at least for now) our first major storm in our young (2 1/2
yrs. ) marriage. These vows, and a carefull consideration of them have
helped us.
Blessed be,
-Ryan

Hazelnut Good Luck Charm

This is an easy craft to do on Samhain, and something to involve the kids in too.

Supplies:
- 9 hazelnuts (or filberts as they are also called)
- Black colored twine (hemp is best for the energy)
- Nut pick

Using the nut pick, bore holes in the nuts. Use whole nuts, don't shell them! String them on the twine, making it just long enough to hold the nine nuts with a little bit of space, then tie off in a circle. On the night of Samhain, consecrate it in the fire, passing it back and forth 3 times, and chanting:

"Hazelnuts nine in a ring
By the smoke of the Samhain Fire bring
To those within our humble home
Form over this a protective cone

Guard for a year, I charge thee
And as I will, so mote it be!"

Then hang it up in your home somewhere as an amulet of protection for the coming year. If you want, make several, and after consecrating them give them to other pagan family and friends as a gift, or hang one in every room if you wish. My son loves making them, and it is a great way for kids to learn about the pagan ways.

Nine is the sacred number of the Hazelnut in the Celtic Tree Calender. Save some of the nuts to bury during the Spring Equinox, to attune yourself with the cycle of birth and death.

Healing a Broken Heart Spell

You will need: one egg
one pink candle
rose petals
lemon balm
honey
rose oil (optional)

Take the egg in one hand. Sit quietly and think about the relationship you have just ended, and your feelings about splitting up. Allow all your negative feelings, grief, frustration and loneliness to come to the surface. Cry, howl and bawl if you need to - the end of a relationship is like a death and you should allow yourself to grieve and not feel ashamed about it.

While thinking about the relationship, take the egg and roll it gently over your face and forehead. Imagine that the egg is like a sponge which can soak up your grief, your need, and all the negative emotions which are holding you back and dampening your spirits. Project all your unhappiness over the relationship into the egg and let it soak up all your negative feelings.

When you feel that the egg has sucked up all your unhappiness and negative feelings over this broken relationship, take it to a plot of earth - preferably not your own garden - and bury it. If it must be on your property, bury it as far as possible from your house. Know that the negative feelings and depression you projected onto the egg are being absorbed and neutralised by the earth.

Return to your house, preferably to your own bedroom or some place where you spend a lot of time. Make yourself some lemon balm tea with some of the rose petals, and sweeten it to taste with honey. Sprinkle the rest of the rose petals around the candle and yourself, if you have enough. Light the candle. Imagine the warmth of the candle and the scent of the rose petals combining and filling the room with warmth, sweet rose scent and soft pink light. Let the pink light and scent fill you with loving warmth and comfortable feelings. If you have some, anoint your chest just over the heart with a little rose oil.

Sip the lemon balm tea. Say quietly and with conviction:

'Gentle balm, soothe my heart
Bring to me your healing art'.

Imagine yourself surrounded by love and peace, sheltered from discomfort and loneliness. Know that you deserve love and that you are now free of your previous relationship and open to a new one. Gaze into the candle flame and imagine yourself happy and healed, living a joyful and fulfilling life without the person you have just broken up with.

Healing Bath

Take a lit silver or white candle, some salt (preferably sea salt), and a healing oil
(such as carnation, violet, sandalwood, or narcissus) into the bathroom.
By the candle's light run a tub of very warm water. Cast some salt into it, add a
few drops of healing oil, and then step into the tub. Relax. Feel the warm salted
water sinking into your pores, through your skin, sterilizing the sick portions of
your body. Visualize the sickness as black worms, cells etc, as leaving your body and
entering the water. When you feel the water is teaming with teeming with them,
pull the plug and let the water drain out. While it is draining chant:

The sickness is flowing out of me, Into the water, down to the sea.
Wait until the tub is completely drained before you stand up. Then take a shower
to remove the last vestiges of the disease of the sickness - laden water. Repeat as
needed to speed your bodies recovery.

Healing Flames

Draw a picture of yourself with the disease, wound or condition. Clearly point out the problem in the picture: a large hammer against the head to represent a headache; black worms for a virus; a broken limb; a sore.
Charge a red candle with healing energy. Light the candle's flame. Hold the tip of the picture in the flame. After it's lit, drop it into a heat-proof container.
Now, with the red candle still burning, draw another picture of yourself without the headache, free of the virus or sore, or with a healed limb. Place this picture under the red candle and let it burn out. (Note: do this and all healing rites in conjunction with proper medical treatment.)

Write the names of the people taking part on a blue candle. On a piece
of parchment write a list of th things you wish to have healed. This can

be specific or general. For you, someone else, or just the universe in
general. Light the candle and see the energy being sent into the candle
and leaving through the smoke and flame to carry out your will. Hold the

paper to the flame to burn. As it does say:
By full moon's light,
With helping hands,
I spread good health,
Throughout the lands.
Send energies far and near,
To heal this earth,
That I hold dear.
And all of those,
So dear to me,
With harm to none,
So mote it be.

Healing Spells

***Rock 'N Roll Healing Spell***
Use this simple spell to move illness away from a person.
Moon Phase: Full to new
Day: Tuesday or Saturday
Planet: Mars or Saturn
Supplies: One basket of pebbles half the size of the palm of your hand or smaller ( not too small, or you will not be able to write on them-try to find at least 21 rocks or pebbles); a boom box; your favorite music; a black marker

In sacred space, cleanse, consecrate, and empower your supplies in the name of healing for the person. Ask the angels of healing to help you banish the illness from your friend or relative. Write the words Banish illness from (the person's name) on each rock.

Take your book box and your basket of rocks outside to the top of a hill where you will not be disturbed. Turn on the music. Think of your friend or relative and roll rocks down the hill, one at a time. As you roll the rocks, imagine the illness leaving your friend or relative.

***Angel Healing Spell***
You will need a picture, a pin, or a statue of an angel for this spell. You will give the angel you choose as a gift to the sick person to help them heal faster. The angel should stay with them, even in the hospital room.
Moon Phase: Any phase
Day: Any day
Planet: Sun, Moon, Mercury, or Venus
In sacred space, call the angels of healing and your guardian angel. Cleanse, consecrate, and empower the gift angel in the name of healing. Respectfully ask the angels of healing and your guardian angel to help the sick person. Tell them that you will be giving this gift to the person, and ask for their blessings and healing energyon the person and the angel.

Give the gift to the sick person, and tell them to keep the angel with them at all times.

***Aura Cleansing Spell***
You will be scraping the aura this time, rather than lifting negativity from the aura of the person.
Moon Phase: Any time
Day: Any day
Planet: Sun, Saturn
Supplies: A spool of black thread; a lighter; a fire-proof bowl
Wrap the free end of the thread around your hand several times. Let approxinately seventeen inches unravel from the spool. Cut the thread off the spool. Wrap the free end several times around your other hand. Draw the string tight (not too tight) between your two hands. Have the sick person sit in a chair. Stand behind them. Lift the string up and over their head, and then back to you three times. Now move to your right so that you are standing beside them. Repeat the procedures. Stand in front of them and do the same thing. Stand on the other side and scrape the aura around their head again. Another way to do this is to have the sick person lie down on a blanket or bed while you move the string up and down their body (about three inches away from them) envisioning that you are removing the negatibity from the body. When finished, burn the string or throw the string in a living body of water. You can also bury the string off of your property.

***The Takin' Off Spell***
This is an old Pennsylvania Dutch healing spell designed to take anything off of you that shouldn't be there, whether we're talking about negatve energy or an illness that has manifested.
Moon Phase: Any Time
Day: Any Day
Planet: Sun, Moon, Mars, or Saturn
Supplies: A ball of yarn; a lighter; a fire-proof bowl.

Have the sick person stand in front of you. Take the free end of the yarn and place the yarn at the top of the person's head. Have them hold the yarn for you while you measure all the way down to their heel with yarn. Hold your finger at the spot on the yarn that matched their heel. Have them sit down and take off their shoe. Add measurement of their foot onto the yarn that you are holding. This means that the yarn will measure their height plus one foot measurement. Cut the yarn at the end of the measurement.
Hold the yarn in your hand and say:
I remove, I banish, I take off any sickness or negatibity on(the person's name)
So mote it be!

Burn the yarn in the bowl and say:

Fire coil and fire roil, dragon's tail and cauldron boil!
Remove the negativity for (the person's name), now!
So mote it be!

Be careful, dont burn your finger. If you are not allowed to use fire, then throw the yarn in a living body of water, or bury the yarn off your property.

INDIFFERENCE.
The state of mind which is characterised by Indifference is commonly
called Trance, but the misnomer is unfortunate. It is, in fact, in a sense
the precise contrary of a Trance; for Trance usually implies Samadhi, and
this state specifically excludes any such occurrence. That implies a
uniting, and this a willed dissociation. Yet there is nothing here to
suggest necessarily any practice of the Black Brothers; for it is not,
properly speaking, an Attainment, but rather a convenient attitude. And it
is one of the very greatest practical importance and use. One can not
remain indefinitely in any Samadhi; at the same time, it is proper to fill
the intervals between gusts of positive work in such a way as to leave
oneself as free as possible to take the next step. One should therefore
cultivate a habit of mind which is not bound by any form of desire. The
State of Indifference is thus a form of that Silence which is defence and
protection, and is cognate with the Third Noble Truth of Buddhism, Sorrow's
Ceasing.
The general idea of the state is that the mind should react
automatically to each and every impression: "It does not matter whether the
Event be ay or nay." Blavatsky observes that the feeling is at least tinged
with disgust. But this is an error; such a state is imperfect. There
should, on the contrary, be a quite definite joy, not in the impression
itself but in being indifferent to it. This joy springs doubtless from the
sense of power involved; but that is again an imperfection; one should
rather rejoice in the cognizance of the ultimate truth that "existence is
pure joy," not in any feeling more immediate.
It is to be observed that the attainment and maintenance of this state
depends to a great extent on the mastery of several Trances. For instance,
one must be convinced of the First Noble Truth by the Trance of Sorrow, or
it would not be logical to be indifferent to all things; there might be, in
the absence of this perception of "sabb(ace)e pi Dukkham," some impression
which actually led to a state free from Sorrow, and this is not the case.
Freedom from Sorrow depends on freedom from impression.
Yet it would not be fair to say that this State of Indifference was akin
to that Dullness which succeeds the acute spasm of Sorrow; it is not the
anaesthesia of a nerve worn out by excess of pain. There is never any place
in the curriculum of a Magician for passivity -- of course we here except
what may be called the Active or Willed Passivity described in ®MDUL¯Liber
LXV.®MDNM¯ Indifference is to be an intensely active condition. One may
compare it with the ease of a skilled fencer, who meets and deflects every
possible attack of his antagonist with equal vigour, unconscious of his
acts, because he has trained his eye, wrist, and even his blade to think
for themselves. Thus Indifference is the spiritual form of the Automatic
Consciousness of the Adept; and this resides in Yesod, the place of the
Fortress on the Frontier of the Abyss, as described in ®MDUL¯Liber®MDNM¯
418 in the Eleventh Aethyr.
This Indifference being a habit of Normal Mind, it is easier to attain
than any true Samadhic State, and involves less technical ability. This is
particularly the case because, as noted above, the Trance of Sorrow has
been an almost necessary preliminary to the proper understanding of what it
implies. The method therefore of acquiring (the word is to be preferred to
`attaining') Indifference is simple; it is, in effect, the Way of the Tao.
The following Sorites may prove useful to the Aspirant:
Existence is only to be understood as a Continuum.
All parts of Existence are therefore ultimately equivalent, each being
equally necessary to complete the whole.
Each event is thus to be received with equal honour, and the reaction to
it made with equal indifference.
To offer a practical parallel. Suppose one is to receive a thousand
pounds, and this amount is paid over in divers coins, with I.O.U.'s for
various sums. Since one knows in advance that the balance in one's favour
is #L1,000, one does not get excited on the appearance of any particular
item, but goes on steadily counting, making the right reaction, whether a
plus or a minus item is at issue, with perfect calm and accuracy. Each
entry in the account may be different; but one's mental attitude is
invariable. The common error of the unphilosophical mind is indeed due to
ignorance of the true nature of the soul. One is apt to suppose that each
Event as it occurs may be `good' or `bad,' may indicate that one is winning
or losing. But as soon as one is certain that the issue is factitious, that
it has been determined beforehand, it becomes absurd to be affected by one
incident in the illusory process which Nature uses symbolically to express
the fatality of Truth rather than by any other.
It is interesting to note that this method of acquiring Indifference is
quite independent of any experience of the Trance of Sorrow; it is a simple
and normal consideration based on strictly Thelemic premises. It is thus
most highly to be recommended. The methods of the dead Aeon of Osiris were
in fact attended with no inconsiderable danger. The question of
Separateness from the Universe is critical, for one thing; for another, it
is a mistake to be dependent of such a theory as that implied in the First
Noble Truth in its outer aspects. It is altogether better to adopt the
purely intellectual attitude, and anchor it subsequently in Neschamah by
simply transcending the normal rational mind in the usual way by the Method
of Contradiction, or equating of Opposites, such as is described in
®MDUL¯Konx Om Pax,®MDNM¯ and in the best Essays on the Holy Qabalah.
It is apt, moreover, to lead to several types of error to regard
Indifference as a state inferior to Samadhi. In particular one may tend to
think of it as passive, as imperfect, as an interregnum; whereas it should
be considered as a state of Peace with Victory.
It need only be added, in conclusion, that Indifference is not perfect
until it has entered into full possession of at least one Samadhic trait,
Automatism. As long as there remains any need of conscious effort in
dealing with any impression, any need to remember the process by which the
state is reached, or even any need of conscious interference with, or
cognizance of, the purely spontaneous elastic reflex reaction, the Aspirant
to the Summum Bonum, True Wisdom and Perfect Happiness, has not adequately
acquired the Habit of Indifference.

Invisible Shielding

This is a good technique to use when you want to quietly fade into the background, such as when you have to walk through a group of cat-calling yobs, or you're at work and the boss is on the warpath and looking for someone to pick on. I used to practice it on the tram on the way to work, until I began to notice that the conductors weren't selling me tickets. I'd be sitting there holding my money out and they'd walk right past me!

It's a simple procedure. Ground and centre yourself. Start with creating a shield, with whatever technique you find most comfortable. Then visualise that the shield is a little bit fuzzy, so you seem a bit blurry to anyone watching. Gradually blur the shield, and begin to blend it, and yourself, into the colours and shapes of your surroundings. It's a bit hard to explain, but it's like visualising yourself as changing colour to suit your surroundings like a chameleon. The shield acts like a veil which makes you less visible because you don't stand out from your surroundings as much. If you normally like a mirrored shield, you can make it bounce back light so it mirrors your surroundings visually.

Making Tools
It is an old belief that the best substances for making tools are those
that once had life in them, as opposed to artificial substances. Thus,
wood or ivory is better for a wand than metal, which is more
appropriate for swords or knives. Virgin parchment is better than
manufactured paper for talismans, etc. And things which have been made
by hand are good, because there is life in them.

Personal Success Spell

Get a gold pouch.
Are we going to go through this every time? I know you don't have a
gold pouch just laying
around, so why are you saying, "Pouch? What pouch?" This is
easy.... really! Grab a little
rectangle of gold cloth and sew up three sides and Presto! Chango!
It becomes a pouch.
Don't have any gold fabric? You can use green. Cool, huh?

Get some marigold petals and a little chunk of cedar.
You're getting the hang of this now, aren't you? I noticed right
away that you didn't have
marigolds planted, but you took your trusty pocket knife and cut a
chunk off your cedar suit
hanger. Oh, don't worry, I won't tell anyone you're decimating a
twelve dollar hanger for a
success spell. You have to spend money to make money, don't you?
Now, don't worry if you
don't have the marigold petals. They're a nice touch, but not
necessarily vital.

Get a crisp new one dollar bill.
I like crisp money! I like all money, even that odd stuff from.....
oh, forget it. You probably
aren't interested in how I bought my way out of being catapulted
into space along with an
azalea bush and a ferret.

Carve a rune on your piece of cedar.
You can draw the rune on your cedar with olive oil, if you have to.
It's just more "special" if
you carve it in. Really! Would I lie to you? Of course not, dear
heart. Now carve carefully....
this particular talisman doesn't require blood and we don't want
you hurt!

Carve this rune on your chunk of cedar.

Fill your pouch.
Put the carved chunk of cedar, the marigold petals (they're
optional -- remember?) and the
crisp one dollar bill in the pouch. Tie the top with a piece of
green or gold string. Yes, of
course yarn will work!

Are you ready for the best part? Go outside and hold your pouch up
toward the sun and say,
"I call thee, Sun, to bring your power to me and infuse this
Talisman with success and riches!
So Mote It Be!"

Now, lay your pouch where it will absorb the sun's rays and leave
it there for at least an hour.
Sit around on a lawnchair and eat a couple of Moon Pies or sip a
double chocolate malt.
Again, this part is optional.... the sitting and sipping, that is.
You have to leave your pouch in
the sun, of course. Hum the theme from Dallas. (Optional) Paint
your fingernails with
alternating gold and cerulean stripes. (This, too, is optional.)

Brrrraaaaapppp! Time's up, love. Pick up your success pouch and
stick it in your pocket or
purse and keep it with you. As often as you can, hold it to the sun
and visualize your goal of
success and money, then return the pouch to your hidey-spot. Keep
at it..... keep at it......
keep at it.....

You did good, darlin'! Now all you have to do is focus on your
dream for success and
money, all right? All right! Wait... it will come as surely as the
sun makes a tiny little seed grow
into a mighty tree

Pet Protection
I used these spells in a protection ritual for a house and its inhabitants, including the pets. In both spells, Hecate is called upon for her fierce protective attributes. I've explained the circumstances in each case, but you would want to make changes to fit the circumstances and characteristics of your pets.
To protect a dog:
The dog I wanted to protect is a beautiful, loving pet. He is also a pitbull and very protective of his family. My fear has always been that he would protect them from intruders or other harm and later be harmed himself because of the fear many people have of the breed.
Call your dog into the circle and draw a pentagram in Protection Oil on his forehead. Then recite:
Hecate, Dark Mother
In protecting this home
In your place as is right
Stands one of your own
In defending this house
And all creatures within
Your sacred beast
Is your true loyal friend.
Keep him from harm
As he guards all he loves
And watch over him
So below, as above.
To protect a cat
The cat in this case was a house cat who had just moved into a new house. He kept running away every time a door or window was opened.
Call your cat into the circle and draw a pentagram in Protection Oil on his forehead. Then recite:
Moon Goddess, I ask
That you keep [name] at home
And safe from his mischief
And desire to roam.
Give him the contentment
Known to his race
And see that he's happy
In this his new place.

Prosperity Magick
In this spell you will pull toward you the energy of Ishtar to create positive abundance in your life and heal your financial worries using sacred water. Ishtar was called "The Light of the World". Much of the liturgical flattery given to God in the Old Testament of the Bible was directly plagiarized from Babylonian prayers created for Ishtar. Therefore, should you prefer to use Psalms in your magickal applications, don't feel guilty about the process of changing the "he's" to "she's".
The fish representation in this spell is a world wide symbol of the Great Mother, consisting of two half moons touching edges, forming the representation of the feminine genitalia. When Rome became Christianized, its citizens were not willing to give up the Goddess oriented fish symbolism. These new Christians rewrote the mythos surrounding the symbol of the fish to suit this new religion. Earthly female followers of Christ, Nuns, received their name from the Hebrew letter (Nun), meaning "fish".
Supplies: One green or blue candle. Incense of your choice. Chalice or cup filled with Holy Water or blessed water. A flat piece of pliable clay. A stylus, pen, or nail to draw in the clay.
Instructions: Begin this spell on the new or waxing moon. You may wish to employ the planetary hours of the Sun (success) or Jupiter (prosperity). Cast your circle. Intone the self-blessing. Call upon Spirit or one of the Gods or Goddesses listed above, entreating their assistance. Light the incense and the candle. With your stylus, draw a swimming fish on the clay while thinking of abundance and prosperity swimming into your life. Sprinkle the image with holy water, asking Spirit to bless you with abundance and prosperity. Envision the fish glowing with health and life. Pass the clay over the flame of the candle three times. Hold the fish close to your mouth and blow on the image three times, with long, flowing breaths. Then say,
"I call upon thee, O gracious Ishtar, She who was known as Light of the World. I dedicate this rite to you, Ishtar. You who traveled the descent. You who brought back the life giving waters. Great Ishtar, I ask for blessings upon this sacred fish that I have created with my own hands. Waters of life, I ask for prosperity. When I cast this clay fish into the waters of (name the lake, river, or ocean), this fish will draw into my life-net, an abundance of prosperity, healing, and harmony, in the name of Ishtar. Waters of life, bring forth my desire. I always have everything I need, and more. So mote it be."
If you like, you can sing, hum, or meditate thinking positive thoughts while holding the fish. When you have finished, extinguish the candle. Thank deity for assisting you. Release the circle. Take the water from the chalice and your clay fish and release into the waters you named, with the assurance that prosperity and harmony will manifest within the month.
A Final Note: Ishtar is not a goddess to be trifled with. Do not accept money from ill-gotten gains.
To enhance this spell:
Perform on the new or waxing moon.
Perform on Monday in the hour of the moon.
Perform when the moon is in Libra, especially if you are seeking abundance through teamwork.
Perform at midnight.
Perform on a beach, beside a stream, river, or wishing well.
Perform at Candlemas using a bowl of melted snow.

Protection Charm #2
Fill a clear glass goblet about halfway up with water. Stir in a little salt and put it in direct sun for approximately 15 minutes. Let the water absorb the rays. Along side the goblet, place a charm or talisman on a chain or cord and allow it to receive the sun as well. (Note: You may use a piece of jewelry such as a gemstone pendant or a stone you've found or any other natural object for the charm.)
After 15 minutes have passed, take the glass and talisman out of the sun and dip the talisman into the water. Using the chain or the string attached to the talisman, gently swirl it clockwise while you say the following three times.
Apollo's light surround me.
Poseidon's water protect me.
Athena's wisdom guide me.
As you speak the words, imagine a beam of pure white light surrounding both the water and the talisman.
Leave the water with the talisman in it for another 10 minutes, then dry it off and wear it with comfort in knowing that it will protect you.

Protection Charm
Tools:
One red candle + one white candle
A small piece of white paper
Oil
Ink pen
Red Ribbon
Set the white candle alight on the left to represent the Goddess and a red candle to the right to represent the God. Place the materials for the spell between the two candles.
Using the oil, with your right index finger, draw a pentacle (star inside a circle) in the middle of the white paper, while saying, "With the seal of this pentagram I request that this charm be used for protection." [Editor's note: a pentagram seal may also be used.]
Using a pen, in the center of the oil-drawn pentagram, draw your own special symbol for protection.
Say, "With this rune, I request that this charm be used for protection."
When you are ready, roll the paper up with the red ribbon tightly lengthwise.
Hold the charm over the red candle and say,
I consecrate myself in fire
so that I can defend myself
and protect myself with the power I have.
Continue doing this with the smoke of the white candle, but consecrate it in the name of air.
Hold the charm with both hands. Concentrate on the charm's task. Then seal the left end of the charm with white wax, the right with red wax. The charm is now complete.
How to make the oil yourself:
1 T base oil
4 drops primrose
4 drops lavender
2 drops sandalwood

Protection for Your House

This is a simple ritual designed to "trap" negative energies before they enter your home. Similar objects and devices have been used for centuries around the world. To make it, you will need:

A small jar that once held spices, perhaps. It should be glass for, after all, glass is made from sand. Thoroughly wash and dry the jar, removing any labels. It must have a close-fitting lid as well.
Equal quantities of two different colors of sand. Some types include fine grayish-white beach sand; yellowish coral sand; orangish sand from the desert; red sand from volcanic areas; black obsidian sand and many others. Many of these can be bought at plant stores or pet stores.
A spoon.
Two small bowls to hold the sands.

Before you begin, pour one type of sand into the bottle until it's just over half filled. Empty this sand into one dish. Call it sand #1 for reference.

Clean the bottle and repeat with sand #2, emptying it into its own bowl.

Now you are ready. Hold your protective hand over sand #1. Look down at it. See it humming and writhing with protective, projective energy. Touch the sand. Visualize it emitting sparks of bright white light that ensnare negativity and draw it inward. Charge it with personal power.

Repeat with sand #2.

Place the bottle before you. Scoop out a level spoonful of sand #1. Pour this into the jar while saying the following words:

Trap of sand
Trap the ill.
Trap the bane and
Evil will.

PROUD AS A PEACOCK.

Maybe this is more your style. Wear a peacock feather or some emblem of the peacock. For instance, cut off the decorative end of a peacock feather and pin it to your lapel instead of a rose, or wear earrings shaped like peacocks. Look in the mirror and repeat as many times as you want,
"I am spreading my tail feathers."
Leave the house and see what happens. This is NOT a spell to make anyone see you the way you want them to see you. This is like a peacock spreading his tail to court, but on a psychic level.

grounding stones (hematite , sodalite)

Psychic first aid for self or other.

Step one
Seal the area for protection. Either by full circle or visualization.

Step Two
Stabilize (meditation helps here) Ground and center. Good stone to use hematite.

Step Three
Review the situation. If can not find the cause of the situation use divining tools at this time.

Step Four
Raise energy.

Step Five
Perform a cut away between the outside world and the person being aided. Either use athame or visualize a bright light separating from the center. If the problem is eternal use drawing herb to bring it out and then visualize the cut-away.

Step Six
Seal holes and balance aura.

Step Seven
Banish any lingering influences. Rattles and bells make good banishers and sealers.

Step Eight
Perform any other healing function necessary.

Step Nine
Set up shields.

Psychic Protection Spell

You Will Need:
Protection Incense (herbs or oils work fine also)
Black 8" Taper Candle
It is best to find a work area that you can leave untouched for three
days. If you must put away your tools, try to at least keep your spell
candle out in the open. This spell is used to protect yourself from
mental attacks.
Prepare your work area by setting up any tools you may use in addition
to your spell candle. Love or protection incense is recommended (herbs
or oils can also be used). While setting up your area, CONCENTRATE on
the purpose of your work.
Bathe in purification herbs, or with your favorite bath salts. While you
are bathing, concentrate again on the purpose of your spell. Do not let
negative thoughts enter your mind.
After bathing, go to your work area. Cast a circle and light some
incense. Envision a large, white ball of light surrounding you, your
work area, and your home. Hold the candle between the palms of your
hands and direct all of your positive energy into the candle.
Place the candle in its candle holder. Prior to lighting the candle, say
(either aloud, or to yourself):
"This candle represents protection over me in all things"
Light the candle and say (either aloud or to yourself):
"As the light of this flame grows, I can feel the light and positive
energy around me. As this candle burns, everything around me is blessed
with light and love. I am blessed with light and love. Negative energy
is being banished."
Sit back and watch the candle burn. Keep visualizing the white ball of
light and protection around you. Envision your Higher Power blessing you
and protecting you from harm. See yourself blessing whoever or whatever
it is that brings harm to you. Bless them so that they may be happy and
will no longer wish to cause you harm. Feel the peace and love.
When the candle had burned 1/3 of the way, say
"As the flame of the candle is extinguished--evil, negativity, and harm
towards me is banished."
Extinguish the candle- don't blow it out, though! Just muffle it or
pinch the flame out, many believe blowing a candle out diverts the
energy and shows disrespect.
Repeat this for two more nights. On the last night, after the candle has
burned away and the leftover wax has cooled, discard the wax in the
garbage to symbolize throwing away that which causes you harm.
You have been blessed with Light, Love, Peace, and Protection. Whatever
was causing you harm will no longer do so.

Purification of the Soul

To purify the soul, brew a tea made from ginseng root, light a white candle and, before drinking the tea, recite the following pagan prayer to the sacred Goddess:

O Goddess, beautiful and fair
Let your divine spirit flow
Into this earthly substance
So that he/she who drinks it
May be cleansed of all impurities
Of the soul. So Mote It Be.

As you drink the blessed Ginseng tea and feel its warmth filling your insides, the divine spirit of the Goddess will enter you and purify your soul.

Real Estate Spell

You will need a statue of St. Joseph. These can usually be found in religious shops. Bury the statue upside down (heels up) in the front yard. The feet must not be covered with dirt, so flowerbeds are good for avoiding questions. If you live in an apartment, and the statue is a large one, try burying it in a flowerpot near the front door. Once the house is sold, dig up the statue and carefully wash it. Display the statue in a prominent place in your home for at least one year.

Love Candles
Heat dried apple peels (or apple-scented oil) and 2 teaspoons of dried basil together with a cup of pink or red wax. When the wax is melted, remove the apple peels and pour the liquid into a heat resistant container you have chosen for a mold. For easy removal of the candle after the wax has hardened, make sure the top of the container is as wide or wider than the bottom. Before doing this, anchor a wick to the bottom of the container by putting a spot of hot wax on a penny or anything similar and attaching the wick to this using another spot of hot wax. Hold onto the wick as you pour the wax. Depending on the size of the candle, you may secure the top of the wick to a pencil and span the top of the container to keep the wick straight while the wax dries.
When the wax has set remove the mold. Carve you candle with symbols of love.
Burn the candle for two hours at a time during the full moon (for companionship). Visualize your desire and meditate. You may chant an incantation such as " Full Moon and Candle light the way. May love and joy find me and stay."

Reflection/Deflection Spell

TOOLS NEEDED:

1 black candle
bowl of salt
your favorite 'protective' incense (i usually use sandalwood all the time)
chalice or bowl of water (whichever your preference)
a picture of the person from whom the energy is coming from
a mirror (this mirror shouldn't be like a scrying mirror... it should have a
reflective surface, and should only be used for magickal purposes and should
be magickally cleansed before and after each use to get rid of any magickal
'residue' and it's best if it's small and can stand up)

Cast your circle as you normally would (invoking Elements, the Goddess, the
God, etc...) At this point, I would normally cleanse the mirror of anything,
physically AND magickally.

Next, light the black candle.

The picture of the person should be face up in front of you. Pick up the
picture and look at it. Say the person's name three times to get their image
firmly in your mind.

Take the picture and run it through the incense smoke, saying:

"What ye send forth comes back to thee,
By Air and the Law of Three!"

Next run it through the flame of the candle (not enough to catch it on fire)
and say:

"What ye send forth comes back to thee,
By Fire and the Law of Three!"

Sprinkle water on the picture (only needs to be a little... unless you
caught it on fire, LOL):

"What ye send forth comes back to thee,
By Water and the Law of Three!"

Sprinkle a little salt on it:

"What ye send forth comes back to thee,
By Earth and the Law of Three!"

Next, place the picture facing the mirror, the black candle should be behind
the mirror, but still able to cast light upon the picture of the person.
Visualize a mirror-like surface surrounding you, reflecting energies back
towards the person.

"What you send at me goes back!
Three times light, three times black!
What you reap, so shall you sew!
>>From above and from below!
No harm will come, unless you send.
No loss will come, if ye be friend.
No harm to me, by mirror's shine,
For I reflect, by what is mine!
Earth and Air, Water, Fire,
Help reflect, by my desire!
I invoke the Law of Three!
This is my Will, and it shall be!"

Allow the candle to burn down, and close the circle as you normally would,
allowing the candle to burn itself out. After the candle has burned itself
out, be sure to cleanse or dispose of the other materials used. for example
I would ritually cleanse the mirror, and burn or bury the picture, depending
upon the circumstance.

Releasing Negative Energy Spell
Time: During the seven days of the Full of the Moon.
When and Where: Outside, Barefoot, facing East.
Clothing white cotton.
Bathe and meditate while using this breathing method. Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. When through, visualize the negative energy flowing out through the drain. Go outside and face East. Place the left arm straight down to the side. Palm flat against the body. Right arm straight out and palm side up. Bring up until the Full Moon rests on your palm as a crystal ball would rest. Meditate again using the Ohm meditation as you would a musical scale. When you are still and feeling the energy. Repeat the following:
O Great Mother Goddess and Father God
You who are all yet nothing.
Beyond explanation and understanding.
I ask thee to grant my request this night.
I ask that you take the negativity that was sent to me
And send it swirling into the Universe.
Let it be sent back to the sender three fold
And as a lesson of what is right and wrong.
Let the residual energy be sent to me three fold
With loving, caring healing positive energy.
I ask that you grant this request.
I also thank Thee for your kindness and caring attention.
I ask this in the power of three
So Mote it Be!

Ritual for Conception

The ritual chamber should be prepared with yellow sheets, the color of
creative energy. Above the bed can be hung a bundle of yarrow, mistletoe,
parsley, myrtle and St. John's wort which was picked on Midsummer's eve, all
of which are believed to help in conception. A small altar should be placed
in the room, with the image of the pregnant Goddess in the center.
Before the ritual, the couple should prepare themselves according to
magical and medical standards. We know from doctors that a man should not
have sex for about a week, and a woman should be in her fertile period. They
should both eat well, get plenty of rest, and try not to get nervous about
the whole matter. It is, after all, the most natural thing in the world.
On a magical level, they may wish to consume things such as basil,
poppy, cucumber and pomegranate to increase fertility. To symbolize the union
of the God and Goddess, you can create an incense. Mix acorns and hazel nuts
with two herbs - One to represent the masculine and one to represent the
feminine. Somewhere near the bed, a small container of mandrake and jasmine,
well mixed, can be placed to help insure sexual prowess. To bring a sense of
peacefulness, it is also appropriate to have a bath, massage, or an anointing
with lemon.
The couple should spend some time together meditating and attuning
themselves to each other's physical rhythms. In order to best accomplish
this, the phone should be turned off and friends asked to not stop by. Take
away anything that might distract you from your desire.
When love making is finished, and the couple is well rested, they should
go to a special place with their clay Goddess. This area should be one where
the image can remain undisturbed. Bury her there with a braid of your hair,
and allow nature to take her course.
Should a pregnancy occur, there is a Victorian way to tell if it will be
a boy or girl. According to an old tale, if you go to your garden with your
eyes closed and spin around to pick a flower, if it is a dark color (deep
red, a brown leaf etc.) The baby will be a boy. A light hue, such as pink
indicates a girl.

Winter Solstice Ritual

Tools:
In addition to your usual m'jyk-l tools, you will need:

* A Green Altar Cloth

* A Cauldron w/Lid or Cover Plate

* Holly Sprig Wreath

* Mistletoe Sprig Wreath

* 12 Low Vibration Stones (flat oval river rock work well)

* 1 Black Votive Candle, 1 Green 12" Taper Candle, 1 White 12" Taper
Candle, 1 Gold (12hr) Pillar Candle

* Pine Incense

* Bowl of Water w/ Pine Sprig in it

* Plate of Sand

* Athame

* Other Personal Items of choice

Preparation:
This ritual showed be performed right after sunset. About an hour before,
sweep area moving in a deosil manner. Yule symbols such as Poinsettias, Pine
Cones, and even a decorated Yule Log nearby (if too big for altar) adds to
the ambiance. Place the proper candles and symbols at the four cardinal
directions. Place the gold God pillar candle at right top of altar. Place
the
white Goddess taper candle at the top left. Place your Pentacle (or a plate
with a Pentagram drawn on it) in the center of the altar. Place your
Cauldron
to the right of the altar, with the black votive candle, Holly sprig wreath
around it , inside. Cover cauldron with lid or cover plate. Place the green
taper candle and mistletoe wreath where they will be behind you at the
beginning of the ritual. Outline your circle perimeter with 11 of the low
vibration stones (save 12th to close circle when you enter. Place the rest
of
your tools and props according to personal preference. Take a shower or bath
for purity. Sit quietly for a period to ground and center. When ready put on
some soothing music associated with the Sabbat and your ritual. Enter the
standing stone circle and close with 12th stone.

Cast circle by envisioning flames of Yule colors red, green, and gold coming
up between the stones. When all become a continuous line, step up to the
altar and begin:

"From the darkness is born the light, From void, fulfillment emerges... The
darkest night of the year's at the threshold, Open now the door, and honor
the darkness."

Take the lid/plate off the cauldron and light the black votive candle
inside.
Step back from the cauldron and give silent honor to the Holly King, the
ruler of the dark half of the year. Call quarters, start by lighting yellow
candle in the East:

"Powers of Air, step forth from the darkness, Enter my circle , as dark
gives
'way to light. Bring along with you the essence of pine trees, Remind me of
Springtime As I face Solstice Night."

Light the pine incense and place on Pentacle/Center Plate. Light the red
candle in the South:

"Powers of Fire, step forth from the darkness, Enter my circle, as dark
gives
'way to light, Bring along with you the first glint of tomorrow, Remind me
of
Summer As I face Solstice Night."

Pick up the Athame and brandish it in the flame of the candle to reflect the
light. Place on the Pentacle/Center Plate. Light the blue candle in the
West:

"Powers of Water, step forth from the darkness, Enter my circle, as dark
gives 'way to light, Bring along with you bittersweet memories Remind me of
Autumn As I face Solstice Night."

Pick up the bowl of water, sprinkle water with pine sprig in Pentacle/Center
Plate. Light brown candle in the North:

"Powers of Earth, step forth from the darkness, Enter my circle, as dark
gives 'way to light, Bring along with you the land that now slumbers, Remind
me of Winter And this cold Solstice Night."

Pick up the plate of sand, sprinkle sand in a line around the other symbols.
Step back from the alter for a moment and contemplate the seasons of the
past
year, and how their lessons have brought you to where you are today. When
ready, begin again:

"Dark my surroundings, and cold be this night But Thy labor, Blessed Mother
Has reborn the Sacred Light... The Child Divine, The most honored Sun Shall
return with the sunrise Again, Two will be One."

Remove the Holly wreath from around the black votive candle. With your right
hand, present it to the four elements in a deosil manner. Finally, in a
clockwise motion, place it behind you, to signify the death, "passing", of
the Holly King. Turn back to the altar. Then with your left hand, reach
behind you, and in a clockwise motion bring forward the Mistletoe wreath and
the green candle. Present them to the elements, slide the wreath over the
green candle and place the candle in its holder in the cauldron. Light the
green candle with the black votive candle:

"Hark! Behold the Rebirth of the King of the Woodlands! Behold the Oak King,
strong and vital he rises!" Snuff the black votive candle and with your
right
hand, place it behind you in a clockwise motion. Turn back to the cauldron,
close your eyes, and silently honor the Oak King. Begin again: "Awake now
Thy
Mother, Thy Lover, Thy Lady - Awake now Thy Goddess of Life, Death,
Rebirth."

Take the green candle out of the cauldron and light the white Goddess candle
on the altar. Replace the green candle in the cauldron. Take the white
Goddess candle with both hands and hold out at arm's length over the
cauldron:

"Awaken, my Lady, look upon Thyne Divine Child, His rebirth while You
slumbered Was subtle and silent. The Stag King, the Green Man, Lord of
Fertility, He awaits Thy wakening Gentle and benevolent"

Place the white Goddess candle back in its holder at the left top of altar.
Step back and assume the Goddess position. In a bold voice:

"All hail the Oak King, His rebirth; a promise All hail the Divine Child,
Giver of Life All hail the Blessed Sun, reborn to the Mother For he retakes
His throne at the end of Solstice Night!"

Now is the time for meditation and any spellworkings. Spellworkings
associated with Yule include those for peace, harmony, love, and happiness.
Next celebrate with the Cakes and Ale (Fruitcake* and Spiced Cider *)
ceremony, saving some for the wee Folkes, outside. Thank the Goddess and
snuff Her candle. Thank and release the elements:

"Carry sweet tidings, 'round the world and beyond, I charge thee as
messengers Earth, Water, Fire, and Air Let all rejoice loudly in the Oak
King's return Teach all that you meet, with the glad tidings you bear."

Snuff each Quarter candle in a widdershins manner. Step back and face the
cauldron and the green candle still burning bright.

"Before my circle, tonight, I close Blessings I ask for this house and my
kin
Tomorrow at daybreak, when I arise A special flame I will carry, within...
And a gold candle upon my altar I'll light Adding my will to the Sun King's
intent To climb aloft in the vaulted skies And for strength back to me;
three
times, strength I've sent."

Snuff the green candle. Take the Mistletoe wreath and place it on the other
symbols on the Pentacle/Center Plate. Release the circle. Clean up, leaving
the gold God pillar candle in center front to light upon rising in the
morning. You are done. >>

Ritual Of The Mists

This ritual is intended to be done when there is lots of fog in your area. This Ritual and prayer is to bring you closer to Manannan Mac Lyr, Keeper of the Mist, Ruler of Tir Na Og, and keeper of the Well of Wisdom. Personally when I have done it I have felt strangly drawn into the mists as if the Ancestors were calling me into them to join them. Someday I might go ahead and go but as of yet, I haven't. If at all possible, try to do this ritual in a place with trees and open land. I have done it outside my home but my home is too connected to this world. I have done it in a park, and the effects are much much cleaner and crisper there.

Items needed: Staff Robe Object w/ Double spiral Object w/ Triskele Bread as a sacrifice to the land spirits First thing to do is to feel the mists around you, Alert your senses to it. Remember that the Mists are an In between area, not sky, not water. Get your bearings, realize that you are in an in between state. At this time you should be wearing your robe.

Becoming aware of the Center of the Three realms The first thing to do, is to become aware of the three realms. Land, Sea, and Sky. Hold the object with the Triskele firmly in your hand and do the following:

Bend down and touch the ground, and say - "I stand firmly upon the land" Stand up and hold your arms out to the sides - "The sea surrounds me." Bring your arms over your head and finally say - "The sky spreads itself above me" Bring your hands down over your heart and say - "I acknowldge the three realms."

Acknowleding the Mists: Take the staff and pound it on the ground three times. Take the staff and hold it straight out from your body (like it is an extension of your arms) and turn around three times (counter clockwise) as if you were cutting the mists in half.

Bring the staff up and wave it over your head three times. (This movement is like acknowledging the three realms. Hitting the ground with the staff contacts it with land, cutting the mists gives it contact with water, and waving it over your head give is contact with the air) Next face North (the direction of the four cities, and the place that the Tuatha de Dannan came from) Take the staff and draw a double spiral in the air, and say the following words:

"Manannan Mac Lyr, Lord of the Mist, Ruler of Tir na mBam, Keeper of the double gate of the otherworld. I am here seeking knowledge of the mists and the otherworlds. I come bringing sacrifices for the land spirits. I come in complete awareness and in harmony with the three realms. Watch over me as I travel the mists, keep me from harm as I travel here in the in between. Grant me, oh Manannan, the gift of knowlege from the well which is yours to protect, from which the five rivers flow, into which the nuts of knowlege drop, into which swim the salmon of knowledge. "

"I acknowledge the shroud of the mists, The mists that protect the otherworld the otherworld where the Well of Wisdom lies the Well of Wisdom that contains all knowledge knowledge, which is the key to our lives our lives that are in service to the Gods The Gods that live in the otherworld The otherworld that is protected by the mists I acknowledge the shroud of the mists."

Take the sacrifice, break it into several parts and then put them on the ground as a sacrifice to the land spirits. At this point the formal part of the ritual is over. What I will do is I will begin walking through out the park or the place I am at and seeking the mists. Becoming familair with how different the land is when the mists come and envelop it. When I am about to leave the place I am at, I then end with a prayer to the Gods and Goddesses of the Tuatha De Danann to keep me safe as I travel the mists back to my world

Ritual To Improve Psychic Abilities

Three days before the full moon (preferably when it is in Cancer, Pisces, or Scorpio), light 13 purple-colored candles to help attract psychic influences. Gaze into a mirror, crystal ball or crystal pyramid and chant three times:

Asariel, archangel of Neptune
And ruler of clairvoyance,
Open my third eye
And show me the hidden light.
Let me perceive the kingdoms
Of the unknown.
Let me understand the wisdom
Of the universe.
After chanting, relax your mind, do not permit any negative thoughts, breathe slowly and concentrate on opening your Third Eye.
The Third Eye, located in the space between the eyebrows is the body's highest source of power.

Rose Petals to the Sea
If you are lucky enough to live near the ocean, collect a few rose petals from a wild beach rose. If not, a regular garden rose bush will do. Please do not collect rose petals from somebody's prize roses without asking permission! Visualize your ideal mate while you collect the petals.
Take the petals to the shore or a river, any source of moving water. Water flowing away from you carries energy outward, and those that flow toward you draws love inward. If no river or or ocean is available, use a garden hose to make a miniature river.
When you feel you have found the appropriate spot on the river, beside the ocean, or the home made stream, toss the petals into the water, saying, " As this rose moves out to sea, so true love will come to me." Again visualize your ideal mate while repeating the incantation. The water transports the magic.

SALT WATER PURIFACATION

Fill the cup or if you have one, your ritual chalice, with water. Using your athame, stir in three mounds of salt and stir counter clockwise. While doing so, say:

"Salt and water,
Inner and outer,
Soul and body,
Be cleansed!
Cast out all that is harmful!
Take in all that is good and healing!
By the power of the Mother of all life,
And her lover the Horned God,
So must it be!"

Hold the chalice close to your heart and feed power into the water. When you can feel it glow, it is ready. If you are working with a group, pass it around and have everybody feed energy into the chalice.

The Origins of Halloween

In recent years, there have been a number of pamphlets put out by various
Christian organizations dealing with the origins of modern day Halloween
customs. Being a Witch myself, and a student of the ancient Celts, from
whom we get this holiday, I have found these pamphlets woefully inaccurate
and poorly researched. In an effort to correct some of this erroneous
information, I have spent several months researching the religious life of
the ancient Celtic peoples and the survivals of that religious life in
modern day times. Listed below are some of the most commonly asked
questions concerning the origins and customs of Halloween. Following the
questions is a lengthy bibliography where the curious reader can go to
learn more about this holiday than space in this small pamphlet permits.

1. Where does Halloween come from?

Our modern celebration of Halloween is a descendent of the ancient
Celtic fire festival called "Samhain". The word is pronounced "sow-
in", with "sow" rhyming with cow.

2. What does "Samhain" mean?

The Irish English dictionary published by the Irish Texts Society
defines the word as follows: "Samhain, All Hallowtide, the feast of
the dead in Pagan and Christian times, signalizing the close of
harvest and the initiation of the winter season, lasting till May,
during which troops (esp. the Fiann) were quartered. Faeries were
imagined as particularly active at this season. From it the half year
is reckoned. also called Feile Moingfinne (Snow Goddess).(1) The
Scottish Gaelis Dictionary defines it as "Hallowtide. The Feast of All
Soula. Sam + Fuin = end of summer."(2) Contrary to the information
published by many organizations, there is no archaeological or
literary evidence to indicate that Samhain was a deity. The Celtic
Gods of the dead were Gwynn ap Nudd for the British, and Arawn for the
Welsh. The Irish did not have a "lord of death" as such.

3. Why was the end of summer of significance to the Celts?

The Celts were a pastoral people as opposed to an agricultural people.
The end of summer was significant to them because it meant the time of
year when the structure of their lives changed radically. The cattle
were brought down from the summer pastures in the hills and the people
were gathered into the houses for the long winter nights of story-
telling and handicrafts.

4. What does it have to do with a festival of the dead?

The Celts believed that when people died, they went to a land of
eternal youth and happiness called Tir nan Og. They did not have the
concept of heaven and hell that the Christian church later brought
into the land. The dead were sometimes believed to be dwelling with
the Fairy Folk, who lived in the numerous mounds or sidhe (pron.
"shee") that dotted the Irish and Scottish countryside. Samhain was
the new year to the Celts. In the Celtic belief system, turning
points, such as the time between one day and the next, the meeting of
sea and shore, or the turning of one year into the next were seen as
magickal times. The turning of the year was the most potent of these
times. This was the time when the "veil between the worlds" was at its
thinnest, and the living could communicate with their beloved dead in
Tir nan Og.

5. What about the aspects of "evil" that we associate with the night today?

The Celts did not have demons and devils in their belief system. The
fairies, however, were often considered hostile and dangerous to
humans because they were seen as being resentful of men taking over
their lands. On this night, they would sometimes trick humans into
becoming lost in the fairy mounds, where they would be trapped
forever. After the coming of the Christians to the Celtic lands,
certain of the folk saw the fairies as those angels who had sided
neither with Gor or with Lucifer in their dispute, and thus, were
condemned to walk the earth until judgment day.(3) In addition to the
fairies, many humans were abroad on this night, causing mischief.
since this night belonged neither to one year or the other, Celtic
folk believed that chaos reigned and the people would engage in
"horseplay and practical jokes".(4) This served also as a final outlet
for high spirits before the gloom of winter set in.

6. What about "trick or treat"?

During the course of these hijinks, many of the people would imitate
the fairies and go from house to house begging for treats. Failure to
supply the treats would usually result in practical jokes being
visited on the owner of the house. Since the fairies were abroad on
this night, an offering of food or milk was frequently left for them
on the steps of the house, so the homeowner could gain the blessings
of the "good folk" for the coming year. Many of the households would
also leave out a "dumb supper" for the spirits of the departed.(5) The
folks who were abroad in the night imitating the fairies would some-
times carry turnips carved to represent faces. This is the origin of
our modern Jack-o-lantern.

7. Was this also a religious festival?

Yes. Celtic religion was very closely tied to the Earth. Their great
legends are concerned with momentous happenings which took place
around the time of Samhain. many of the great battles and legends of
kings and heroes center on this night. Many of the legends concern the
promotion of fertility of the earth and the insurance of the contin-
uance of the lives of the people through the dark winter season.

8. How was the religious festival observed?

Unfortunately, we know very little about that. W.G. Wood-Martin, in
his book, "Traces of the Elder Faiths of Ireland" states, "There is
comparitively little trace of the religion of the Druids now discov-
erable , save in the folklore of the peasantry, and the references
relative to it that occur in ancient and authentic Irish manuscripts
are, as far as present appearances go, meagre and insufficient to
support anything like a sound theory for full development of the
ancient religion."(6) The Druids were the priests of the Celtic
peoples. They passed on their teachings by oral tradition instead of
committing them to writing, so when they perished, most of their
religious teachings were lost. We DO know that this festival was
characterized as one of the four great "Fire Festivals" of the Celts.
Legends tell us that on this night, all the hearth fires in Ireland
were extinguished, and then re-lit from the central fire of the Druids
at Tlachtga, 12 miles from the royal hill of Tara. This fire was
kindled from "need fire" which had been generated by the friction of
rubbing two sticks together as opposed to more conventional methods
common in those days.(7) The extinguishing of the fires symbolized the
"dark half" of the year, and the re-kindling from the Druidic fires
was symbolic of the returning life hoped for, and brought about
through the ministrations of the priesthood.

9. What about sacrifices?

Animals were certainly killed at this time of year. This was the time
to "cull" from the herds those animals which were not desired for
breeding purposes for the next year. Most certainly, some of these
would have been done in a ritualistic manner for the use of the
priesthood.

10. Were humans sacrificed?

Scholars are sharply divided on this account, with about half
believing that it took place and half doubting its veracity. Caesar
and Tacitus ceratinly tell tales of the human sacrifices of the Celts,
but Nora Chadwick points out in her book" The Celts" that"it is not
without interest that the Romans themselves had abolished human
sacrifices not long before Caesar's time, and references to the
practice among various barbarian peoples have certain overtones of
self-righteousness. There is little direct archaeological evidence
relevant to Celtic sacrifice."(8) Indeed, there is little reference to
this practice in Celtic literature either. The only surviving story
echoes the story of the Minotaur in Greek legend. The Fomorians, a
race of evil giants said to inhabit portions of Ireland before the
coming of the Tuatha de Danaan, or "people of the Goddess Danu",
demanded the sacrifice of 2/3 of the corn, milk, and first born chil-
dren of the Fir Bolg, or human inhabitants of Ireland. The De Danaan
ended this practice in the second battle of Moy Tura, which
incidentally took place on Samhain.

11. What other practices were associated with this season?

Folk tradition tells us of many divination practices associated with
Samhain. Among the most common were divinations dealing with marriage,
weather, and the coming fortunes for the year. These were performed
via such methods as ducking for apples, and apple peeling. Ducking for
apples was a marriage divination. The first person to bite an apple
would be the first to marry in the coming year. Apple peeling was a
divination to see how long your life would be. The longer the umbroken
apple peel, the longer your life was destined to be.(9) In Scotland,
people would place stones in the ashes of the hearth before retiring
for the night. Anyone whose stone had been disturbed during the night
was said to be destined to die during the coming year.

12. How did these ancient Celtic practices come to America?

When the potato crop in Ireland failed, many of the Irish people,
modern day descendents of the Celts, immigrated to America, bringing
with them their folk practices, which are the remnants of the Celtic
festival observances.

13. We in America view this as a harvest festival. Did the Celts also
view it as such?

Yes. The Celts had 3 harvests: Aug 1, or Lammas, was the first
harvest, when the first fruits were offered to the Gods in thanks. The
Fall Equinox was the "true harvest". This was when the bulk of the
crops would be brought in. Samhain was the final harvest of the year.
Anything left on the vines or in the fields after this date was
considered blasted by the fairies, or "pu'ka", and unfit for human
consumption.

14. Does anyone today celebrate Samhain as a religious observance?

Yes. many followers of various pagan religions, such as Druids and
Wiccans observe this day as a religious festival. They view it as a
memorial day for their dead friends, similar to the national holiday
of Memorial Day in May. It is still a night to practice various forms
of divination concerning future events. Also, it is considered a time
to wrap up old projects, take stock of ones life, and initiate new
projects for the coming year. As the winter season is approaching, it
is a good time to do studying on research projects and also a goot
time to begin hand work such as sewing, leather working, woodworking,
etc. for Yule gifts later in the year.

15. Does this involve human or animal sacrifice?

Absolutely NOT! Hollywood to the contrary, blood sacrifice is not
practiced by modern day followers of Wicca or Druidism. There may be
some people who THINK they are practicing Wicca by performing blood
sacrifices, but this is NOT condoned by reputable practitioners of the
modern day NeoPagan religions.

Self Confidence Spell

In front of your bathroom mirror, every morning without fail, light a red
candle and concentrate on the flame for 30 seconds or so before looking into
your own eyes.

Tell yourself something along the lines of, "You are beautiful and special.
You are perfect and you can do anything you want."

Take a minute to visualise yourself feeling happy and fulfilled. Afterwards,
go into your room, or stay in the bathroom and burn some success incense.

Three parts wood aloe, two parts frankincense and one part nutmeg and
continue to visualise for another minute or so. Leave the incense burning
until it is finished.

If you find incense a bit strong, use an oil burner with some success oil.

SEPARATING YOURSELF FROM A PROBLEM
Small issues can be handled in a magick circle, whereas larger issues
may need a full ritual. Think carefully which is best for the situation.
You will need two black candles, a long black ribbon, black gloves,
scissors, the cauldron containing small amount of alcohol, and a silver
bell. Cleanse and consecrate all items. Dress the candles to send
negativity away from you, then light them. Hold each end of the ribbon
and name the ends. Pass the silver bell over the altar several times,
until you feel you are in tune with the Universal energies of love and
peace. Anger is not a luxury afforded to you in the situation. Put on
the black gloves and say:
I call upon the energies of Universal balance
I call upon the ancient energies of my people
I call upon the living essence of the Morrigan
Underworld and heaven
Land and sea
I waken these energies unto me.
Witness now that I renounce and sever
Break bonds and connections with ______
By all powers that are One Power
May the great sisters of karma now weave anew
And serparate me from you
As I will, so mote it be!
Cut the ribbon:
It is so.
Light the cauldron. Burn both pieces of ribbon.

SEWING..
Seamstresses, tailors, and women who make clothes for their families
follow traditions of luck that date back to the Middle Ages. It has
long been believed that dropping a needle accidentally is a sign of good
luck, but that dropping a pair of scissors will bring bad luck unless
one is careful to step on them before picking them up. It is also
considered bad luck to leave an open pair of scissors, which forms a
cross on a table.
Among beliefs associated with sewing, it is considered bad luck to
begin work on a garment on a Friday unless it can be finished before
sunset. Similarly, it is very bad luck to sew at all on a Sunday

Simple Candle Magick

For very simple candle magick, an elaborate ritual is not necessary.
Candle magick can become part of your everyday life. Simple candle
magick includes changing the mood within your home, sending soothing or
calming energy to a friend who needs it, motivating yourself in the
short term, even sending a little positive energy to the world. Simple
candle magick includes any other number of goodwill actions you would
like to undertake. Simple candle magick pertains to general outcomes and
requires far less emphasis on formal ritual.
Simple candle magick can be used for changing the general mood in your
home, which can include banishing or clearing negativity directly after
a resolved argument, creating a relaxing environment after work,
creating a romantic atmosphere, creating a healing environment for a
relaxing bath, or creating quiet time for children before they go to
bed. Using the example of banishing negativity after a resolved
argument, it is important to note that the energy from an argument will
stay in a home, hanging in the air like cigarette smoke. To remove that
energy, simply anoint and bless a candle with peace, and light the
candle. Gaze into the light of the candle and visualize the light
generated by the flame moving swiftly to every part of your home. It is
important to visualize the light moving to every part of your home, and
not the flame! As the light reaches every corner and every person within
your home, see it changing the energy. Allow the candle to burn for a
short period. That's all there is to it.
Use this simple method of candle magick for any change in atmosphere
that you wish to place in your home. For the romantic atmosphere, sense
the romantic feelings, imprint them into the candle, and light the
candle. For quiet time for children prior to bedtime, imprint the candle
with the feeling of your children being content while coloring or some
other quiet activity.
If you wish a more penetrating change in your home, to effect happiness
for example, create a candle arrangement specifically for that purpose.
Find a large, pink, pillar candle and bless and anoint it with oil.
Create a wreath to fit around the bottom of the candle. Use wire and
floral tape, as well as herbs or plants which are seasonal and
appropriate to the essence of happiness such as apple blossoms in the
spring, lavender in the summer, or juniper in the fall and winter. As
you weave the plants into a circle, imagine your home being surrounded
by happiness. Thank the plants for their help as you work. Imprint the
candle with happiness. Visualize that as it is lit, it fills your home
with the light of happiness. Next, place the candle on a plate and
fashion the wreath to surround its base, light the candle, and enjoy the
vibes! The wreath can be left to dry or replaced as needed; however, use
the utmost caution in not letting the candle burn too near to the wreath
as dried floral arrangements are flammable.
You can also surround a candle with stones for the same purpose. Simply
place a pillar candle on a plate, and surround it with stones for your
desired outcome. A pink candle surrounded by rose quartz sends a lovely
vibration through your home. If you have a very large candle, you can
affix the stones directly to the candle by warming the wax with a flame
in a particular spot, and then carefully pressing the stones into the
soft wax of the candle.
Simple candle magick has the distinct ability to help you focus on the
truly important matters - your personal spiritual growth, the joy of
your home, sending love to family and friends, and sending loving energy
where strength is needed in the world. Seeing the delicate and fragile
light in your home allows you to focus on and live with joy for all that
is important.

SMUDGING: HOW TO DO IT--HOW NOT TO DO IT
~~~
I came across a very interesting article from "Shaman's Drum" which
was reprinted for Vision Quest Bookstore. I will attempt to convey
the gist of it, along with my views, as a student of the Ways of the
Teneh, about it. Smudging is a way of using the smoke from burning
herbs as a way to cleanse the body, an object, or a given area of
negative influences. I myself use smudging to "cleanse" crystals
before using them in jewelry projects I may do, and for protecting my
home from some recent "bad vibe"-producing events. (landlord
troubles!) I imagine that the skillful use of the proper herbs could
help in warding and banishing ceremonies as well, if used properly and
with reverence. The three most used plant material for smudging are
sage of all types, cedar, and sweetgrass.
Sage
~~~~
There are two major genii and several varieties of each genus of Sage
that are used for smudging. Salvia, or the herb sage used for cooking,
comes in two major varieties: S. Officinalis, commonly known as Garden
Sage, and S. Apiana, commonly known as White Sage. Salvia varieties
have long been acknowledged as healing herbs, reflected in the fact
that its genus name comes from the Latin root word *salvare*, which is
the verb "to heal" or "to save." Artemisia is the genus commonly
considered "Sagebrush", and is more common in the wilds out here in
California. There are two major varieties to the Artemisia genus:
A. Californica, or Common Sagebrush, and A. Vulgaris, or Mugwort.
There are many other varieties of both Salvia and Artemisia, and all are
effective in smudging. Sage is burned in smudging ceremonies to drive
out evil spirits, negative thoughts and feelings, and to keep Gan'n
(negative entities) away from areas where ceremonials take place. In
the Plains Sweatlodge, the floor of the structure is strewn with sage
leaves for the participants to rub on their bodies during the sweat.
Sage is also used in keeping sacred objects like pipes or Peyote wands
safe from negative influence. In the Sioux nation, the Sacred Pipe is
kept in a bundle with sage boughs. I would think special crystals could
be so protected this way as well.

Cedar
~~~~~
True cedar is of the Thuja and Libocedrus genii. Some Junipers
(Juniperus genus) are also called "cedar", thus complicating things some.
Some Juniper varieties ARE cleansing herbs, especially J. Monosperma, or
Desert White Cedar. But for smudging, the best is Western Red Cedar
(Thuja occidentalis) and California Incense Cedar (Libocedrus descurrens).
Cedar is burnt while praying to the Great Spirit (Usen', the Source--also
known to Plains nations as Wakan Tanka) in meditation, and also to bless a
house before moving in as is the tradition in the Northwest and
Western Canada. It works both as a purifier and as a way to attract
GOOD energy in your direction. It is usually available in herb stores
in chipped form, which must be sprinkled over a charcoal in a brazier.
I like a piece of charcoaled mesquite for this purpose, rather than
the commercial charcoal cake.
Sweetgrass
~~~~~~~~~~
Very important to the Sioux and Cherokee nations, its botanical name is
Hierochloe Oderata. In these tribes, the sweetgrass is braided like hair
braids. It could be burnt by lighting the end of it, or (more economically)
by shaving little bits of it onto charcoal in a brazier. Again, use
charcoaled Mesquite (I believe it comes packaged for barbecue use
under the brand name "Red Arrow") to burn it, not pressed charcoal
tablets. Sweetgrass is burnt after smudging with sage, to welcome in
good influences after the bad had been driven out. Sweetgrass is very
rare today, and traditional Plains people have been attempting to
protect the last of it. Myself, I believe that Cedar, which is not
endangered, can safely be used this way. Also Pinon pine needles
(used more frequently by the Southwest Teneh, like the Navajo and
Apache as well as the Pueblo people and the Zuni) and Copal (used by
the Yaqui and in ancient times by the Azteca and the Maya) have
similar effect. The three mentioned here are redily available either
through gathering yourself or, in the case of copal resin, from any
good herb shop.

Using Smudging
~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
Burn clippings of the herb in a brazier...not a shell as some "new age"
shamanic circles do...it is an insult to White Painted Woman (The Goddess)
to do this, especially with the abalone shell which is especially sacred
to Her. If the herb is bundled in a "wand", you can also light the end
of the wand that isn't woody and use that. I like the latter way. Direct
the smoke with your hands or with a Peyote (feather) wand over the
person or thing you wish to smudge. If you can see auras, look for
discolored places in the aura and direct the healing smoke towards
those places on the patient's body. For cleansing a house, first
offer cedar smoke to the four directions outside the house. Then,
take a sage bough and go throughout the inside of the house, making
sure the smoke penetrates every nook and cranny of the house. It
might help also, if you have a power animal, to visualize your animal
doing these things, to also dance your animal, and if you have a power
song, to sing that too. Then finally, run through the house with a
white candle that is well protected, to "light up" the house. Careful
not to burn it down when you do it!!!
Final Thoughts
~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
Smudging should be done with care, with reverence, and in an attitude
of LOVE. Show your respect and honor to the plants that Usen' has
given us for our healing, and they will return the favor by keeping us
well and free from disease and negative energy. Aloe Vera plants,
though not to be burnt, are good for the cleansing angle as well. Keep
one or more potted Aloe Veras in the house (modern varieties are too
tender to plant in anything but full shade outside) in organic (wood
or ceramic, never plastic or metal) pots. To honor the plant when you
transplant it, sprinkle the roots with corn meal and smudge it with
cedar once it is transplanted. The spirit of Aloe Vera is a good
protective spirit, and if you burn yourself, can also be used to heal
your skin. BE SURE TO ASK THE PLANT'S PERMISSION before cutting part
of the leaf off for the healing juice. If you don't, the protective
power of the plant will cease, and you will be left with but an inert
houseplant...and perhaps some bad karma to boot.
Hi-dicho, it is finished....ENJU!

Who has a head of a viper lying around their house? O.o
