Hi! I find that gems affect me in a very powerful way and I tend to like using them in my meditations and rituals. I would like to know if any of you use gemstones regularly. If you do, which ones and why? I use clear quartz and sometimes rose quartz during meditation, and for rituals, I find a stone that seems to ring true for whatever purpose I wish to put it towards. Last time I was out looking for gems I purchaced fluorite and a few other stones. On the description it stated "Vibrates to the number 7." Does anyone know what that is about? Thanks in advance. Blessed be!

The number 7 is a Magickal number (right up there with 13 and 21).

When you walk into a gem shop, the stones will talk to you - so listen. However, the most powerfull are those that you find in the outdoors. Regardless of the quality, rocks talk. Just find one that "tickles your fancy" and you will have the most powerful stone in the world.

They do not have to be polished, and purchased at a store.

Find the one that Talks to you.

I just figured there was a method to the maddness of 'vibration by number' as I've also found the following:
Citrine vibrates to 6, Blue Topaz to 3, Iolite also to 7, an Tourmaline to 2.

And as you mentioned, Rantnraven, I love stones from outside! I live on Long Island in New York, so going to the beaches and collecting rock has always been something I love to do. I have found so many stones that I love. I just wondered if any of you have stones you love to use...or love to tay away from, for that matter. :)

For anyone who is interested, I recieved this e-mail reguarding crystals that often times have strong effects on the user.

The first time I walked into a crystal store, many years ago, I was
innocently looking for a Mother's Day gift. Though I had been
interested
in metaphysics for several years, crystals had escaped my attention.
Now
I noticed how beaitufl they were, but this impression was soon lost
in a
wave of dizziness.

At first, I thought there wasn't enough air in the store; then I felt
as
if I were in an elevator plunging to the bottom, and I kept hearing
the
word, "Atlantis." I couldn't wait to get out of the store, and for
months afterwards I wouldn't go near crystals.

As you know, I did eventually overcome my fear and was able not only
to
go into crystal stores but own one and spend much time there, as well
as
in large warehouses crowded with stones. My own energy field adapted
to
that of large quantities of crystals.

Because of my own initiating experience, I am very sympathetic to the
emails I get from people who have had occasion to feel uncomfortable
with crystals, either generally or with specific stones. This article
is
intended to provide some solutions.

Unlucky Crystals?

Opal is a crystal which makes so many people uncomfortable that it's
gotten a reputation for being a bad-luck stone. It's one of the most
misunderstood stones in the crystal realm. In my many years of working
with and selling stones I have heard (among other remarks) that it's a
bad-luck stone, that you should only have one if someone gives it to
you
as a gift, and that you should only have/wear it if it's your
birthstone
(Librans, rejoice).

This stone contains up to thirty percent water. In addition, its
ever-changing play of colors (called opalescence), gives it the
ability
to mirror and magnification of one's emotions.

Many people are uncomfortable with strong emotions. By this, I don't
mean feelings of sadness where one feels in control. I mean
surrendering
to feelings. This kind of surrender is opal's gift.

It's the kind of gift which doesn't always seem like one. When we're
feeling emotionally upset, the last thing we want is to feel more of
emotion. However, the more deeply we can feel our emotions and allow
them to flow through us, the more quickly we go away.

Think about how you feel after a good cry: exhausted, yes, but also
relieved, relaxed, de-stressed. Emotions are most unpleasant when we
feel stuck in them -- which usually means that we're resisting them.
We
don't, for example, want to be angry, so instead anger seethes and
simmers, or when completely repressed, implodes to create stress,
tension, and sometimes physical conditions.

If you can hang on for the ride, you will find that opal will help you
to release persistent emotional states. In chakra layouts it can be
placed on the heart or solar plexus for purposes of release. I would
recommend also using rose quartz for a softening effect.

When we're feeling emotionally stable and/or joyful, another gift of
opal comes into play. Opal doesn't only magnify what we classify as
negative emotions; it also enhances feelings of love and happiness.
Thus, wearing or working with this stone can be a transcendent
experience.

Other High-Voltage Crystals

I went into some length about opal because it is one of the crystals
most likely to make people feel uncomfortable. Obsidian is another.
This
crystal will bring to the surface anything you've been avoiding
handling.

I have written elsewhere about a friend who began working with
obsidian.
A few days later. a job resume he'd unknowingly hidden beneath a pile
of
papers suddenly appeared at the top of that pile. Obsidian is like
that.

Ruby can make passions explode. Lapis can bring long-concealed beliefs
to the surface. Malachite surfaces emotions. Quartz magnifies the
effects of other crystals.

Any crystal can make you uncomfortable if its purpose is to release
long-held blockages. We choose certain crystals because we want to
release these blockages, but limitations are so familiar, so much a
part
of ourselves that we often unconsciously fear giving up the certainty
they provide.

The Wise Use of Crystals

There are a number of ways you can avoid resisting the energy of the
crystals you've chosen.

Don't Overdo It

If you've chosen to work with or wear a high-voltage crystal, be
moderate at first. Don't work with several of them at once. For
example,
don't meditate simultaneously with lapis, malachite, ruby, opal, and
obsidian.

Instead, work briefly with one of these crystals at a time. When you
begin to feel uncomfortable with it .put it away, then come back to
it.

Use Softening Crystals

Rose quartz and aventurine are two crystals which can help you in
using
more volatile ones. Lapis, ruby, and malachite bring emotions to the
surface, but don't dissolve their vibrational charge. If you place a
rose quartz or aventurine with any of them, they have a dissolving
effect.

Rhodochrosite, when placed on the solar plexus, can help to relieve
any
anxieties caused by high-voltage crystals.

Use Other Crystals

When ruby is blended with zoisite the zoisite stabilizes its energies.

Garnet also stimulates passion and creativity in a less dramatic way.

Moonstone brings forth emotions in a more gentle way than opal.

Azurite brings beliefs to the surface, but has the dissolving effect
which lapis does not.

Create an Affirmation

Your intention can make a huge difference in the results of your
working
with crystals. Decide exactly what you would like to accomplish with
them.

For example, you may be feeling detached from your emotions. This may
have resulted in low-grade, but persistent, depression. You could
create
an affirmation which says: "I choose to be in partnership with my opal
to be fully in touch with my emotions. I experience joyous release."

Then you may wish to program the opal and set it on top of the written
affirmation.

Accepting What Unfolds

Consciousness is also vital in the process of working with any
crystal.
If you begin to feel uneasy or uncomfortable, remind yourself that
this
is part of the process of healing and releasing. Also remind yourself
this is a temporary stage, which will lead to greater power,
happiness,
and freedom.

You can ease this process by thinking about the properties of the
crystal you're working. If, for example, in working with obsidian, you
discover beliefs you wish you didn't have, remember obsidian is a
truth-telling friend. Recognize the power of honesty. Imagine how
looking honestly at your life will enable you to make decisions which
will enhance the quality of your life. Visualize yourself in this
empowered state.

Essential Energy

You may also find it helpful to work with certain essences to soften
your journey with crystals.

Rescue Remedy (Bach) is the universal choice for easing the
difficulties
of any growth and change. Worldwide, it is the most popular Bach
Flower
Remedy (and the one most sold at Beyond the Rainbow). I am never
without
a bottle handy.

Walnut (Bach) is the second most popular Bach Flower Remedy in North
America. It helps in easing transitions.

Chamomile (FES) is a calming, soothing remedy which helps to ease
anxiety.

Lavender (FES) helps to ease mental and nervous tension.

Frog (Wild Earth Animal Essences) can help ease emotional release.

I've got the same thing, but its made of velvet. I always have it with me. When I sleep it hangs from my bed post. I'm not obsessive with it. Like I don't have a fit if I realize I don't have it, but I love the feeling of it being there.

I have a couple smaller black velvet bags too but they always end up getting fuzz and cat hair stuck to them and such :)

I was recently given a rose quartz crystal charm to put on a necklace. I put it on a silver chain, and I wear it almost always. I've been into collecting precious stones and crystals since I was very young (it's funny how all of those things seem to make sense to me now... from talking to godesses and collecting crystals...) I've been told that rose quartz has healing energies, and that (clear) quartz magnifies energies. I also have hematite, amethyst, tiger's eye, as well as all sorts of other precious stones from my childhood collection. Does anyone know of a site with a list of specific energies for the many different types of crystals? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I love the idea of keeping the crystals in a bag with me! Thanks for the great idea!

Thanks for the wonderful article!

I use amythist (sp?) for my daughter. She puts it under her pillow to discourage nightmares. She also has a Tiger's Eye she picked for herself. She used it when she was the flower girl at her uncle's wedding for stregnth and courage.

What is meant by some crystals helping others to have a dissolving effect?

Lavender

I use them in a meditation strand that I wear as a bracelet. I start off with a purple tassel on a small rose quartz to represent love, then next is clear quartz to represents the god/dess & the universe, next is labradorite to represent my soul or inner self. Next is a set of two amber beads to represent the mind and body - consciousness & physical. Next is a set of 3 moonstones for balance, introspective, and reflective. Next is a set of 4 flourite beads for the awareness - intuitive, empathetic, accepting, & thoughtful. Next is a set of 5 amethyst beads for affirmations - be worthy, be free, be brave, be positive. Next is a set of 6 sandalwood beads for personal goals & actions. Last, you end the strand where you start off, with the rose quartz. What starts with love, ends with love. I chose all these stones very carefully - not just for it's properties but as well to represents the 4 elements too.

(Oops! I can't count! The fifth affirmation is be powerful. 8O )

Wow! That's amazing, Wildchild! I've never really thought of putting something like that toghether, but now, choosing my own gems of course, I think I may do that... Perhaps as a necklace instead....dunno! Thanks for the guiding inspiration!

Have you checked out the book "Love is in the Earth" by Melody? She talks about the stone's vibration & gives a very good description of their properties as well. It took me months to decide on which stones to use for my strand. I wear it always.

Thanks for the tip, Wildchild. As it is, I'm off the the library/bookstore to pick up some books on wiccan history, so I'll add that to my list! I've been needing to get a book with goo solid info on stones. I've just been living off of whatever infor the store/internet has, so it'll be good to finally have a guide at hand. Thanks!

I have a beautiful peice of quartz crystal and several pieces of hematite and amethist. What magickal applications could I use them for?

Blessed Be!

Myst

You could use amethyst for spirituality, meditation, cleansing other stones (if you lie stones on an amethyst bed it can cleanse them so you can use them again), or love. Hematite can be used for healing, protection, and especially grounding (I have a hematite worry stone just for this purpose). Quartz can be used for meditation, cleansing, or holding energy. In fact, it's like a white candle, and can probably be used for anything you want if you like.

:)

And if any other use feels right to you use them for that - this magick is totally up to your own feelings.

MM all,

Does anyone have an idea of what stone energy may negate the energy of another stone? Or does it not work that way?

I carry all my stones in the same black velvet bag. I love em to death, and carry them with me at all times. They relax me, but sometimes I feel really powerful energy, and other times I dont. When I combine certain stones the energy really rises, almost like weighs my hand down.

Thanks for the help all,

Isis

Hi all!
Great thread!
I,too, carry a little bag of stones with me.In this bag I'll put whichever stones I need for the day,it's a grey leather puch of sorts.I keep all the rest of my stones in a black velvet tarot type bag.
One time I had the whole black bag on me when I was stopped by the police.I was driving under suspension,it was my bad.As he searched me,he asked me what was in my pocket.A bag I said."What kind of bag?"he replied."A bag of rocks!"What kind of rocks?""All kinds" said I.He pulled the bag out,and looked through the bag.He asked me if I always carried rocks in my pockets.I said it all depends. So he didn't impound my car,and I was fined a bit less than the amount of cash in my pocket. So,I think they helped a little.
I have Rose quartz, amethyst,an olivine/obsidian layered stone, lots of obsidian, tiger's eye,an apache tear obsidian(it has a white flake),lots of different quartz crystals.Luckily, there is quartz crystal all over my yard,so I can get them easily.I'm sure I left some out.I also carry a feather or two and some herbs in my bag.
The book by Melody is really wonderful.
Peace and Love

As I understand it, only the energy of a stone can negate the energy of itself. Sounds a little redundant, I know. Gems talk to you. when they do not, they are waning. The energy is always there non-the-less.

Just listen to them. When together, they can cause a good energy. However, if there is one that is waning, it can cause the others to wane as well.

Hope this all made sence.

I don't know about if certain stones negate each other but depending on your combination, they can enhance each other's energies. Perhaps, it wasn't that the stones were negating each other but at the times when you feel more energy, it was the stones raising more energy.

I found it hard to carry all my crystals with me especially when I'm at work. I don't always have pockets on me. That's why I wear my meditation bracelet all the time.

When my boyfriend wanted to purchase me a ring for my birthday and we walked into Zales, I didn't know all the hub-bub over the opal. I was immediately drawn to this ring...opal with sapphire on the side...a few diamonds encircling the opal. After reading the bad luck things, I've decided the following makes the ring good for me.

1)It contains sapphire, my birthstone
2)it's a present
3)it has diamonds

These things justify that the opal will work for me. I'll be sure to have a talk with it just to be sure though!

Thanks for all the information!

MM all,

[...] Isis

Namaste Isis,

I havent found any two stones where one stone would be the complete negation to the other.

Yet there are some capabilities of certain stones, that contradict each other; eg Crystalic Gypsum (aka Maria's Glass) stimulates the production of stomach acid, while Yellow Jasper harmonizes upset stomachs. But Crystalic Gypsum has also other functions that do not contradict each other. So there is no full negation.
I believe you are doing fine with your bunch of stones.
I myself carry always little stone mines in my pockets, plus some bracelets, necklaces and rings. The more, the merrier ;)
I agree with the others who said, your stones will talk to you, just listen. But if you dont understand their language yet, dont worry. The worst that can happen is a little confusion, and as you did not mention it, I guess, you are doing fine.

peace and serenity

thanks for that article ... it was really interesting ...

I love crystals and would really love to learn more about using them.

Crystals also have a strong effect on me too (although I have never heard them speak to me .... perhaps I should listen more closely). I keep mine mostly beside my bed and often use them in meditation too.

I had read that Opal were only meant to be worn by Libran's ... and for some reason I have never felt drawn to them ... or Obsidian either ...
